Oral Yohimbe Poll

Does anyone know how yohimbe is a vasolidator and yet raise blood pressure?

Only Twinlab and Universal yohimbe products are available to me. Did somebody use any of them with success? Thanks.

A7, I’m short on time at the moment, but I can explain the physiology later.

It has to do with the fact that Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) is the product of Cardiac Output (CO) and Total Peripheral Resistance (TPR) (i.e. MAP = CO x TPR). MAP is the regulated cardiovascular variable. When TPR is decreased, via Yohimbine (i.e. vasodilation), CO must increase to maintain MAP. At rest this will result from an increase in Heart Rate, as CO is the product of Heart Rate (HR) and Stroke Volume (SV), since SV is most influential during exercise.

So, I imagine that the vasodilatory effects are either short-lived or over-matched by the increase in CO, such that MAP rises above normal levels (i.e. overshoots).

Hope that helps.

Derek, seeing that the half-life of yo-yo is only 20 minutes, how long do the effects of it last (i.e. how long are the alphas deadened)?

A7,

Where did you see/read that it does this?

Is it recommended to take .2mg/kg a day or per dosage?

What’s the half-life of yohimbine hcl?

Timbo, good point on the yohimbine, as opposed to yohimbe.

Most herbal yohimbe supplements have varying potencies depending on the batch. Not to mention all the different isomers in the yohimbe family. Yohimbine is one of the alkaloids in a family called yohimbanes. I believe there are 32 isomers actually, so in stuff like Twinlabs Yohimbe Fuel you’re most likely going to get a whole host of goodies in there (hence the possiblity of more side effects.) I read a study or two some time ago that implied that little of yohimbine’s fat loss effects are attributed to it’s alpha-2 blockage. There’s another mechanism involved. (I know it’s been shown to prevent SNS lowering on restricted calories) So I’m thinking stimulation of the SNS might be the primary mechanism. I’ll have to look that up.

As well, we already know that yohimbine in the presence of carbs is a no-no since it’s proinsulinemic. (there’s also A2 receptors on the pancreatic beta cells).

I’ve had a lot of success with clients using the following protocol:

0.2mg/kg yohimbINE w/ 200mg caffeine about 45 minutes before fast stated cardio (morning) following this up with a protein/fat meal. Definitely noticeable results.

Damn Timbo! You know some stuff. I didn’t understand the equation part but luckily there was the summation in plain english!. Thanks brutha.

Derek, from all my readings on yohimbe.

I use the Twinlab brand and it seems to working well. Duchaine recomended against taking more than 2 caps a day.
Yohimbe is less effective if you take too much.

A7, yeah, I guess that stuff they teach me in Ex Phys about Cardiovascular physiology is worth a little something:-) The equations are helpful to be able to map out changes in homeostasis. For example, you can see directly how changes in heart rate affect blood pressure.

Thunder, that really seems to be the general consensus from peeps in the know, that yohimbine taken before fasted state cardio is the way to go. Vain also recommends a dose in the middle of the night upon awaking to go potty. Thunder, do you think that the entire dosage should be taken at one time daily or spread out?

The 0.2mg/kg is actually yohimbine HCL, but I think we can translate that to standardized yohimbine.

Timbo, are you a health care professional or just a smart dude? I mean I’m wondering how you have the knowledge to explain all about cardiac output, etc. (BTW, I’m an RN). Anyhow, thanks for your contribution to the thread.

This morning, I began using a topical yohimbine preparation called Yohimburn. I’ll post results in a month or two… or sooner if I’m really impressed.

Definitely all at once.

I picked up some Twinlab yohimbe fuel, took about half the bottle, quit taking it when I went on MD6, then finished the bottle at a later date. Recently I found Yohimbine Active GNC brand, (on sale) and the stuff seems to upset my stomach. I wonder if it is because it is a solid pill, and not a loose filled capsule like the other forms I took?

Here are two good articles:

Bluedreamer, I’m just a loser with a lot of time on my hands:-) Just kidding, brutha.

I have an undergraduate degree in Movement and Sports Science (i.e. Kinesiology) and am pursuing my Master’s degree (i.e. second semester) in Exercise Physiology, concentrating on Sport Sciences and Nutrition.

Much of the research and knowledge focuses on endurance training and the cardiovascular system. So, I’ve got to apply it somewhere.

I appreciate the acknowledgement, my friend. And, I’ll continue to (attempt) drop knowledge bombs.

I’m thinking of stacking ECA with Yohimbe but the only supplement i can find with both is GEN’s Thermogen. Is this any good or should I just stick to a regular E/C/A stack?

Also i was told that Yohimbe is not synergistic with ECA and it slowed down the fat burning effects (this was a guy at the supplement shop, their main stock is SAN products, i dunno if he was telling me the truth or he wanted me to buy SAN Pyroclean hehe)

Thanks

With my reactions to Yohimbe, I had to laugh at the title of this thread, oral Yohimbe pole. Poll rather.

D-Bo (i.e. Derek), those were outstanding references! Thanks for guiding me to those articles.

I highly suggest that you all read through them. The reading is time-consuming and involved, but it is very worthwhile.

I may have been off a bit with my earlier depiction of the rise in blood pressure, however it still might be accurate to some degree. It appears that yohimibine may also help to stimulate the SNS, and, therefore, epinephrine. That, in turn, will also lead to a rise in blood pressure and heart rate.
