Shit man, it sounds like you had it really bad last time, I can understand playing it safe.

To be honest I’d personally stay out of the gym for a little bit if I’d been through what you have.

I have no complaints about my healing process - I had a terrific surgeon and very regular progress checks (very important) - mine healed up in a few weeks. I trained throughout the healing since i’d been out of the gym while I had the abscess.

My major issue was just how bad it got before getting referred to a surgeon, I had 3 rounds of progressively stronger antibiotics prescribed by the clueless GPs who let me down until I demanded to see a surgeon (constant pain was so bad I couldn’t sleep or function). As soon as that good old boy sliced me open and packed the hole I was on easy street. After that it was a text book healing process that started at the bottom and worked its way up to the skin’s surface.
Yeah it was rough. The first (of 3) times I’ve had this surgery my GP prescribed antibiotics which the surgeon said was pointless. I had that same pain, but just when sitting. I went to the doc cause I thought I had somehow fractured my tailbone. Just out of curiosity how was the pain of the dressing changes for you the first week?

I have a pretty high pain tolerance and it still opened my eyes up to a whole other level of pain. I had to do my first dressing change and I like almost blacked out twice and almost got sick. Not a good time. And yeah I’ve been going to a wound center once a week to meet with the surgeon and have the wound inspected and what not.

Also did your surgeon burn the inside of your wound with silver nitrate? I’ve been having that done like once a week for a year now and that shit is not pleasant either haha. Glad to hear that your healing process went well.
First pack change was painful alright, but bearable. I have dozen or so more painful life experiences to compare it to haha. Also the abscess itself had gotten so bad in the months prior that I was generally stoked to have someone who knew what they were doing dealing with it.

After the intitial few days of packing the wound he opened it up from top to bottom and all the nooks and crannies inside with a high fequency high voltage cutting device I wanted to take a closer look at but was lying face down.

Then he scraped out the granulation which forms inside an abscess. He left it to heal naturally like a canyon filling in from the bottom up. I had a light dressing to catch the small amount of clear discharge. Stopped by his office once or twice a week for checkups and pretty much completely healed after a month. I do heal quickly though (high protein intake maybe lol)

I saw a really bad case on Embarrasing Bodies where a guy had an open bleeding pilonidal wound for over year because bacteria had grown on the walls and stopped it from healing or something.

I’m pretty jealous of how your recovery went. That’s great it was so quick though. I noticed a blister a couple days ago a couple inches away from my wound and now I’m beginning to worry its a cyst… I’m going in tomorrow so wish me luck…

I’m actually gonna have 5 days available to train now. I was debating on structuring it as push, pull, rest, push, pull. Or chest/abs, back, rest, shoulders/abs, arms. I did the push pull split after last surgery but how do you guys think these 2 compare? Or given the fact I’ll have more available days any other alternatives you suggest would be welcomed.

Lastly my primary goals are strength, but this surgery rules out squats/deads for the time being. So I’m thinking that either one I choose I could get my heavy bench and chins in. Let me know what you guys think
