Once more with feeling

At the risk of sounding stupid (like that’s something new) I don’t know what this means.

That’s What She Said

Day four of a proper rest and recovery week. Damn this is boring.

I love these weeks for this reason. It’s a great reminder of if we still have “the fire”.

If you take a week off and the entire time you’re thinking “I can’t wait to get back to training”, champing at the bit, coming up with new plans, etc, there’s no doubt.

If you take a week off, the week ends and you think “sh*t, back to the grind”, maybe we need MORE than just a week off…

Uh-oh… I’m not champing at the bit, but I do feel like I should be doing more. Maybe that’ll shift by Sunday or Monday when it’s time to start my next phase.

You’re still training! Haha. I’m talking about actual time away.

Man, that’s a tough one. Even if I actually take time away from the gym, I try to limit it to no more than 5-7 days because the longer the break, the more painful the return.

My wife’s brother-in-law (who cooked up the sliders this weekend) said he went to the gym once this year. I genuinely feel bad for him because I know he hasn’t exercised in years, maybe decades. I told him “If I were you, I’d play on the machines and do one or two sets of 10-15 reps and leave” to keep the soreness manageable.

I’m staying with my uncle for the weekend while I visit with my parents. I’ve never stayed with him before. When I got here he had gone out and bought me cereal, instant oatmeal, bagels and muffins. He didn’t know what I would like and wanted to make sure I had food for breakfast. :heart:I don’t actually eat any of those foods, but there is a zero percent chance that I’m not going to eat it after he went to all the trouble and worked so hard to be a good host. Looks like my rest week also became a free for all diet weekend. Gonna have to do a tiny bit of extra work to get back on track Tuesday but I’m gonna say it’s worth it.

Maybe think of it as comfort food during a visit that could probably stand some extra comfort…delivered as bland carbs. :grimacing:

Though personally, I love bagels. But with smoked salmon and a scrape of cream cheese.

They are raisin bagels. So probably some peanut butter. Yummy.

There is also something to be said for being a gracious house guest.

I had a fairly good day today. I actually walked 2 miles with my mom and sister, but they were two separate walks and I forgot to use my watch on the first one. Mom had some good moments and some not so great moments today. But we got to spend some time together and she got out of the house which is always a win. My oldest sister came to visit while I was at my parents. It was a mixed bag. When she came up in the morning it was nice, when she came back in the evening, it was less so. One of the best parts was visiting with my brother. He is the oldest and he is one of those guys who got divorced then got remarried to a younger woman and started a second family. So I now have a toddler nephew and an infant nephew. I got to snuggle with the littlest guy for a couple of hours. He fell asleep on me and made all of the adorable baby sounds and melted my heart.
My mom can’t remember my name and she can’t really finish a sentence anymore. She kind of gets lost looking for the words and then her brain is meandering and the thought is gone. But put on The Eagles Greatest Hits and she can sing every single word to every single song without missing a beat. It’s one of my favorite things to do when I’m with her. Put on the 60’s station and she will start to sing and dance around the kitchen. It’s almost like a flashback to when she was really and truly her. It’s like a tiny little gift of time that I get with her.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Saturday. (Or Sunday if you are one of those fun guys from the future).

Today was a good day.

I’ve had a few relatives who have also had memory problems as they’ve gotten older. Not an easy thing to watch.

Yeah. She has Alzheimer’s and it’s progressing rather quickly. I’m struggling. Well, we are all struggling.

Alzheimer’s is an ugly thing to watch. Praying for you and your family.

Haven’t caught up here in a while, but was at the shops yesterday, saw this and thought of you!

(Neon sign in case that isn’t obvious)

If you lived in the UK I’d happily have bought it and posted it to you!
