I will look at this. I’m willing to give anything a shot.
My sons are hoping for this too. I think we are looking at -5 tomorrow. We will see. I wouldn’t be surprised if they cancel and I’m off anyway. Extra time to make them do some housework!
Well, I went out and got myself some Guinness N/A to try. It’s been a while since I’ve had anything and it sounded refreshing. I can now officially say that I have lost my taste for beer. It reminded me of the very first time I ever tasted beer and thought to myself, why in the name of all things holy would anyone drink this intentionally. Lol. So I guess that’s good.
I agree. Me & a couple buddies from meetings took a fishing trip up through Potter Co. They brought a few 6 packs of O’Doule’s. Over the course of a few days they offered me one a few times, but I declined. If I drink beer, I want a buzz.
@T3hPwnisher I’m looking for a good book to help me get started with kettlebells. I was thinking Dan John. Do you have a suggestion for someone who is relatively new to kettlebell work?
I am such a kettelbell newb I wouldn’t know a good book from a bad one, haha. Dan is who I would lean on in this situation, but I can’t actually vouch as far as technique goes. I suppose you could also go historical with Pavel Tsastouline’s “Enter the Kettlebell”, as that’s the book that effectively helped the west re-discover the bells in the 90s/early 2000s.
Today was less of a workout and more of a getting to know you with kettlebells. I mostly just spent time trying to figure out how to properly perform a kettlebell clean. Not sure I achieved my goal, but I will keep trying. I think it could be fairy useful for me to have a different form of training to turn to at some point.
Much to the disappointment of my children, they had school today. Now I have to do all of the things that I didn’t bother to do yesterday. Lol

I’ve had a nagging discomfort in my low back for at least a week. I think it might be time to make a change in my routine. I feel like I’m not recovering very well. I have 2 1/2 weeks left on this cycle then my deload week. I think after that I’m gonna drop the weights down and increase my volume. Hopefully this will be a good opportunity to clean my diet back up as well. I’m feeling a bit fried.
I’ve had a nagging discomfort in my low back for at least a week.
Deadlifts followed by good mornings followed by sit ups followed by jefferson curls could be the culprit here. That’s a LOT of loading/compression on the lower back without an opportunity to decompress.
I’d consider doing some hangs from a bar, at a minimum, and if you can get to a high table, some reverse hypers. If you have ankle weights, even better, but just some bodyweight RHs can go a long way.
Today was meant to be complexes but my body woke up feeling like an 80 year old woman with arthritis. So I decided on a morning filled with stretching and some yoga to help get things moving. I also did some bar hangs to help stretch out my low back. It felt horrible and great at the same time. I used my foam roller and my therapy ball too. I still have some tightness in my right upper back but I’m hoping that some ibuprofen will help.
Just me, but I always refrain from taking aspirin or IBUPROFEN from any pain from training because I feel it’s all part of the process and that stuff can be more of a problem. I prefer to know about the pain to learn how to manage and find ways to heal it.
For me Ibuprofen is for inflammation, not pain relief. I have learned through the years of my job that if I let muscular problems go too far, it typically ends up with me on muscle relaxers and high dose ibuprofen for extended periods of time. This is not the route I prefer. So occasional medication is what I go with. Although I don’t disagree with your point.
I use this for inflammation and Tylenol or Aleve for actual pain relief. But I also believe that when I’m trying to treat inflammation that the inflammation is the cause of my pain, so I guess in a roundabout way I’m still using it for pain relief…
Both are true. In this case it’s more inflammation. The pain is not unbearable, so I wouldn’t take something if not for the inflammation which leads to my shoulder locking up. Then i can’t turn my head or push through 300 pounds of womanflesh to try to find a baby. So it’s best to nip it in the bud.
5/3/1 The Triumvirate Cycle 4 Week 2
Training max 100 lb.
Ball throws
8 lb. X 12
Bench Press
Warm up sets
Working sets
70 lbs. 70% x 5 (because I forgot which week I was on. Grrrr.)
80 lbs. 80% x 3
90 lbs. 90% x 8 (rep PR)
Inclined DB Bench Press
20 lbs. 1 x 15
25 lbs. 4 x 15
DB Rows
20 lbs. 1 x 10
25 lbs. 4 x 10
My upper body progress has been pretty great in my opinion. Seeing progress on my bench has been good for my brain. I hope my lower body gets the memo and starts showing up to work. Guess you can’t have it all.
Tomorrow is another long drive to Wisconsin. This time it will just be my son and I. I am looking forward to the drive. Although I’m sure he will make me listen to the music from Call of Duty. I suppose there are worse things.
Completely unrelated side note. We have a patient with a BMI of 90 today. I’m not the one who has to scan her. Blessing counted.

I can’t tell if you screwed this up and meant to say “bodyfat percentage”, but even THAT would make no sense…
So then I went and put my height in a calculator and realized this would be a 610lb 5’9 male…and sighed in defeat realizing that this IS more possible than a 90% bodyfat…and oh my goodness.
