Once more with feeling

I actually like the athletic look (as opposed to the hour glass) on myself. But more than that I am trying to build as strong of a core as possible. I had a hysterectomy in December and it’s super important for women who are post hysterectomy to build a strong core to avoid bladder prolapse. Planks are also a part of my routine and I plan to add more core work as I go.

This is actually my goal. Not my present status. Currently a size 10.
As always, I welcome any help/ suggestions/ encouragement that anyone wants to offer.

I had a great workout this morning and my husband told me I’m looking more slender. It was a fantastic way to start my day. I have been noticing the changes in my body and it feels pretty good to know that other people see it too. One of the things that make me the happiest is the improvement in my posture! I feel so much more confident when I stand up straight. I think I’m going to switch to barbell rows from my DB rows. See if it is less aggravating to my elbow.

My squats seem much heavier than they should. Kind of pissing me off. I’ve done significantly heavier in the past. But I guess that’s what you get when you quit, become corpulent and then start again. (Just learned corpulent, now it’s my new favorite word ) I didn’t feel like doing planks today so I did some leg lifts to switch it up. Bench felt pretty good with no elbow pain. :tada: Actually I don’t think I had any pain while scanning today! I hope this means it’s finally getting better. I’ve reached the point where I’m not hungry all the time which is awesome. Also not craving any junk food. Since I started this log my added sugar has been a half tablespoon of jelly with a pancake before a workout. Beyond that I’ve had none. Also my only dairy is a serving of fat free plain Greek yogurt daily and I’ve had no bread of any kind. I’m happy to not be having any cravings (or filling up with air post bread ingestion). Actually, when I think about it, my diet is pretty boring. But my ass is also smaller. So, you know, tradeoffs. Sleep continues to improve. I almost don’t need headphones to stay asleep. Also noticed that with the exception of my ill fated experiment with pre workout, my perimenopause symptoms have decreased. That, in and of itself, makes a better diet and exercise worth it. Tomorrow will be conditioning followed by what promises to be a shit day at work. But I have a massage after that and I am very much looking forward to it.

Circuit: Jump squat, mountain climber, skaters 15 down to 1 and did a second 1 at the end to add one more rep than the last time. I was going to start at 16, but my legs hurt so bad after the last time that I basically limped for 2 days. So one extra rep it was.

Work went basically how I thought it would. Slightly better I suppose. But my massage was amazing as usual. I got home extra late and just couldn’t take the thought of shredded chicken, so I went with fried potatoes and eggs. It was so very delicious. And bonus: I got twins in one egg!!! Life is good. Tomorrow is a rest day and a clinic day, so early morning with a long drive.
Side note: I prep my lunches and my dinners. Never *once *until this very morning did it occur to me to prep my breakfast. I eat the same breakfast every single morning and never thought to chop my veggies the night before. Some days my idiocy astounds me. Off to a shower and blissful sleep.

So, a couple of things.

  1. Very happy with my weight loss so far.
  2. My undies are finally able to contain my entire ass. This is a huge win for me. Nothing worse than seeing underwear bisecting your ass cheeks. Not a good look.
  3. I am nine pounds from the top end of a healthy weight.
  4. Even with an extremely stressful week at work I’m feeling positive and enjoying life. I attribute this to healthy living.
  5. This has nothing to do with anything except that my husband reads this post and will laugh when he sees that I told this story. So I was planning to have mixed nuts as a treat for myself tonight (logged it and everything). When I went to find them they were gone. Apparently someone turned them into trail mix. When my hubby told me I could eat the trail mix I yelled “I can’t eat trail mix!” He replied, “So pick out the nuts”. I replied “I’m not picking out nuts so I can eat them!” I stomped out of the room and the whole way down the stairs. When I came upstairs I giggled and said “sorry for yelling about the nuts”. When I started to log he asked if I was gonna log about being a psycho about the nuts. So here we are…

Tomorrow is deadlifts.

Ok. So early morning post, but my brain in on overdrive this morning and needs to clear out.
Weight is down to 149.6. I am approaching my goal quicker than I thought I would. This is good because it means I’m getting closer to starting to lift for realzies. This is bad because it means that the last 4 years of " well this is just what happens when you get to be a woman in your 40’s" may have been bullshit. (Yes, my husband tried to tell me this. Yes, his head is still firmly attached to his body).
So now I can already hear my brain shifting from, let’s get to a healthy weight and just feel better, to, fuck it let’s see how much weight we can move. So I guess it’s time to read the 5,3,1 book that has been sitting in my living room (already read and being implemented by my hubby and boys) and prepare for a shift in my workouts. Gonna give the weight loss a few more weeks. What I’m currently doing is working really well so I don’t want to disrupt anything when I’m this close to a goal.

Congratulations on all of it, Beth!

Does your husband post here?

No. He lurks. Lol. He reads my posts and says it weird seeing the “my husband” knowing it’s about him. He likes to read logs and is a large reason I joined but I think he is too private to join himself.

Well, my husband is some what irritated by the term “hubby”. So he shall henceforth be referred to as “The old man”. Although I haven’t ruled out “The old ball and chain”.
I felt pretty energetic this morning. I found it a bit surprising since I slept for shit last night. But I had a great lifting session. I’m making progress slowly but surely. Went for a walk with The Old Man and got 3.25 miles in. Not much on the radar for tomorrow. Just some conditioning.

Invited the in-laws over for a cookout. I had a burger with no bun. It was super yummy. I stayed within my calories but went a bit crazy with the fat.

I struggled hard just to get through this today. Sheer force of will pushed me through. I was tired when I woke up and figured it wouldn’t go well, but I made it through regardless of how sloppy and pathetic it looked. I ended up taking long breaks between sets and had to take breaks between mountain climbers and skaters because I kept getting lightheaded. (Not totally out of the norm for me, I have excessively low blood pressure but worse than usual.) Added a few extra carbs to breakfast to see if that would help. I’m not totally sure if it’s maybe related to my cycle.

Almost done with work and I feel much better. Lunch helped, and I think maybe I was a bit dehydrated. I drank a tremendous amount of water today and have given very little back to the world.

Dinner was fantastic. But anytime I’m not cooking I’m a fan. The old man came through. Feeling much better. I went on the high end of calories today but I think my body needed it. Coming up on 4 weeks of deficit so I’m feeling pretty good about everything. I don’t really miss the cheese or the bread. Both make me feel terrible, so I don’t know why I always insist on eating them. I’m also pretty good on the sugar front. For the last week and a half there has been a buffet of cookies and donuts and candy hanging out in my office at work. That’s how we deal with stress at work, then wonder why we all have asses that are getting progressively larger. But no temptation here. It’s nice to be off the addiction.

Hopefully tonight will bring good rest. Deadlifts early in the morning and I hope I’m feeling up to it.

Until tomorrow…
