Once more with feeling

Or 85% of your Training Max?

Training max. Yes.

I added training max numbers for clarification. Or if you need a solid chuckle. Whichever.

The discussion will inevitably follow regarding whether or not your TM is accurate if you’re hitting 15 reps on the AMRAP. Obvs, start low and progress slow is preferred - so I don’t think 15 reps for the AMRAP is problematic. For me, because I am a little psycho, I kept a spreadsheet of my AMRAP PR’s with different weights so I could track progress.

I just wanted to circle back because the TM and AMRAP sets always spur a discussion.

Probably my favorite hip hinge. These are so great imo. Love to see you starting the new program, def keeping tabs on your log!

My understanding of the program (this is my first time running any program at all) is to start low. I calculated the best I could with my current lifts. I started with the lowest TM percentage that Jim gives as an option in the Forever book. I’m not overly concerned if I started too light. I’m planning to run this program for a while and I will get stronger if I keep with it regardless of whether or not I wasted a week or two. I would rather that than set myself up for failure by starting too heavy. I have nothing but time to progress. There is no looming competition here. No photoshoot. No wedding to look amazing for. Not even anyone to impress but myself. All that being said, I doubt my log is interesting enough to spark discussion. Lol

I am using the sheets that are at the end of the first 5/3/1 book to track my weights and lifts. I like to track my PRs as well.

Thanks! I’m actually really excited about it. To the point that I finished yesterday morning and was kind of disappointed that I have to wait until Thursday to do my next session. Lol.

This is such a great attitude, and one I’ve been increasingly finding for myself. This is just my life, for one thing, there’s no big reveal moment to push toward. And this the only life I get, as far as I know, and I don’t want to spend it agonizing over success or failure on a day to day basis. I want to spend it enjoying myself, and my workouts are a part of the pleasant life I’ve chosen for myself. Someday I won’t be able to lift or run or do silly poses in front of the mirror - but that day is not today, so for today I’ll just do what makes my body and my head feel good.

Your training max is fine. Things will get hard/heavy soon enough. I like your attitude about not being in a hurry, that’s exactly what it takes in this game. When the weights are light work on MMC and form. You got this!

2 mile run. Average pace 11:02. Average heart rate 149. Max heart rate 179.

Got back to running a bit today. The thanksgiving 5k is heading my way and I would like to finish with a non embarrassing time this year. We will be visiting my family so we will be running in the hills of Pennsylvania instead of he plains of Illinois. It’s the only race this year that I am guaranteed both boys are available to run so I’m not missing it.
Today is 20 years of marriage. :heart_on_fire::heart_on_fire:Still going strong.

Where about in Illinois are you? I went to high school in southern Illinois, old man taught at SIU for a spell.

To put this in perspective, .85x.9=0.765. Wendler often recommends using 85% for a TM instead of 90, so .85x.85=0.723. Now I’m not saying that it’s common to be able to do 15 reps at 76% of max, but it’s also not entirely off the mark. And if it is a little light, it won’t be after 3 cycles. IMO, this falls firmly within the whole “start too light” principle

Dead center. Peoria. Whereabouts in southern Illinois? We have a friend who lives down there. We spend some weekends in the summer down there on the lakes. It’s wonderful.

I went conservative on all weights. Rounded down with everything. I have a tendency to decide that I can do more than I actually can. I’m trying to avoid that. I also have a tendency to injure myself. Trying to avoid that as well. I think it will all be fine. Tomorrow is my bench day, so that should go pretty not great. Lol. Then my last reps won’t look so far off the mark.

Edwardsville, my dad’s originally from down near red bud if you know the area. (No judgement if not, it’s a super small town lol)

Sounds familiar. We spent a lot of time in Murphysburough. Now his buddy lives in Gorevill.

Edit: Lake Kinkade is awesome. There is a giant rock climbing cliff that overhangs the lake. All 3 of my men love it.
