Olympic Shoe for Deadlifts

As the subject suggests, I was wondering if anyone else round here uses Olympic shoes with a raised heel for deadlifts?

I got some Adidas Power Perfect II’s before Christmas and tried them on my deadlift day…and have well, not stopped using them since!

Not sure if the raised heel helps me get into a better pulling position or not, but I do feel stronger pulling in them than flat footed.

Anyone else do this? Or have tried this in the past?

Ed Coan and Matt Wenning personally told me there is no real point in pulling in oly shoes for powerlifting.

I’m not sure what Wendler is going to say, but from my experience when I used to do this, I always had issues with the bar being too far in front of me. The second I ditched the oly shoes my deadlift shot up.

The internet is your friend, use it:

“As for shoes, Iâ??m entirely convinced that Olympic lifting shoes are the way to go for squatting. Your feet donâ??t squish around, the heel is elevated to provide great squatting position, and once you walk the weight out your feet are cemented to the ground. For deadlifting, I use the Metal Squat shoe. This is a flat-soled shoe that doesnâ??t move around like a Chuck Taylor. But if you are in a money pinch, get Chuck Taylorâ??s as they are going to be the best bang for your money.”

Straight from Wendler’s blog. All I had to do was Google “Jim Wendler on shoes”. Easy. Try it next time.

Didn’t realise posting a thread in a forum was against the rules, was just looking for other peoples opinions and maybe an adult discussion… but ok, thanks for the tip

I deadlift in an olympic weightlifting shoe - a pendlay - and like it.

You’re right, that was unnecessarily harsh. I apologize, I hadn’t had my morning coffee yet.

And for what it’s worth, I DL in oly shoes, and feel comfortable doing so. I don’t think it’s worth sweating though; if you feel stronger in oly shoes/chucks/barefoot by all means just do that!

Mark Rippetoe mentioned in an interview that deadlifting in weightlifting shoes allows for better quad recruitment, so it isn’t completely unheard of. articles.elitefts.com/features/interviews/going

Personally I pull barefoot and squat in Chucks, but I’ve never lifted in weightlifting shoes before so I can’t comment on them. I’m not one to stop anyone else from doing any lift in whatever they choose, though.

Thank you for posting this. I write stuff so people can pretend to read it.
