there is no need for tracks to be this fast.
I know it is more spectacular perhaps for fans just because the speeds are so much higher but they could easily change the courses to make it safer.
Everyone would still be competing on the same track and so it would still be fair. Also, records would not be broken but the lives of the athletes are clearly more important.
Jesus, the IOC “investigation” is a joke. They blamed it all on the athlete because he was late in the turn, not because they built a track that would eject the athlete into metal poles when one of them inevitably got late on the fastest track ever built. They couldn’t put up plexiglass and keep the athlete on the track in the event of the crash? I am just dumbfounded.

Agreed completely. It’s pathetic that they’re not owning up to making/using a track that kills an athlete for such a small mistake.
Then again, has anyone respected the IOC for decades?
