Olympic Lifting in Northern, VA

What’s up T-Nation, I tried using the search function but most of the threads I found are old as anything.

Does anyone know of a solid place to get into Olympic Lifting in NOVA? Specifically I live in Fairfax, close to Centreville, and the only places people recommend to me are Lifetime and Golds Gym. My family had a membership at Lifetime and I found the experience dreadful so I’d prefer to stay away from commercialized main stream gyms like that, unless someone can make a good argument for it.

I currently lift at the free gym offered by the illustrious Northern Virginia Community College…

Yeah, don’t search on here, but look up USAW (weightlifting) and search for LWC. Call a couple to find something around you, I know there are some (don’t know the names off the top of my head).

I coach out of Rockville MD at Supreme Sports if you can make the trek. We have a few people from VA who make it work.

If you don’t find anything and you still really want to oly. lift, you buy some bumper plates and get it going in your garage or basement

wrathofkhan supposedly there is going to be a gym opening soon off Route 50 near either Annanadale Road or Jefferson Street. I found out about this from a chiropractor who works out early in the morning at Planet Fitness at the Eden Center. He told me a patient of his is the one going to open the place but that’s all he told me. The next time I see him–probably around 4:00 AM Monday morning, I’ll ask if he has any more info. If I get any more, I’ll post it here.

OK, a little more info on the Olympic weightlifting gym in Northern,VA: it will be in Falls Church at the corner of Lee Highway and Annandale Road in a strip mall there. They’re going to call it Five Rings after the Olympic symbol and hope to have it up and running by this summer. That’s all the info I have at present. When I get more, I’ll post it here.

hey wrath of khan, check out Nova strength and conditioning… http://novastrong.com/ . We have a good oly atmosphere and qualified coaches and the facility is right near you located at the intersection of braddock road and 495. Come in at 8am on Saturday to meet the coaches and check the place out. We have 5 platforms, squat racks, etc etc… Also, look us up on facebook too for more information
