Olympic Lifting Books & Resources

Hey Guys,

Long time, no post.

I’m entering a new phase of my competitive life and want to start Olympic Lifting. I’ve had a lot of years under the iron but am a complete novice in Olympic Lifting.

I’m wondering what Books people find the best for a person looking to take up this sport. I’ve been looking on Amazon and etc but I would appreciate any information from guys who actually do it. Every book has at least a dozen 5 star comments probably written by the author, his Mrs, or friends telling me that it is the greatest.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Both of Tommy Kono’s books on Olympic weightlifing and Art Dreshler’s book on Olympic weightlifting would be my choices.

Power Trip by Don McCauley for technique development, and Olympic Weightlifting: A Complete guide for Athletes & Coaches by Greg Everett for program design and a lot of great templates to get started on - get the videos as well. Kono’s books are must-haves, Dreshlers is great if you’re a big fan of everything to do with weightlifting, but is really lacking as far as prescription goes, it gives a lot of ideas but very few templates. And I have to give a shout out to Randall Strossens Ironmind, just to cover the psychological aspects of all of the iron games.

I would get charnigas translations before kones books. the training of the weightlifter by roman is on pdf in the internet and probably is the best book on the subject.

Agreed. Verkhoshansky, Medvedyev, Matveyev, Roman etc (I like Everett and Waxman too but not same league)

I was introduced to Artie causally at a contest once, and then I realized who it was and said, I just bought your book! Good guy.

Yeah, I met Artie too at a meet. Sat and watched a session while he commented on each lifter’s technique. It’s amazing what that guy knows!! Totally blew my mind!!
