Olympic Lifting and Powerlifting

Neospartan, I just find personally that after doing a lot of snatches my shoulders get pretty tired and I end up feeling weaker on the bench. Perhaps this will get better in time, I just started oly lifting again last month after 2 years of only PL. I think some better scheduling will help.[/quote]

I find I Bench better after I OLift. Fires up the CNS proper!

Theres no issue with BP at all as long as you can get in to a deep Snatch receive position. The ONLY issue is IF YOU CAN NOT do so, you will find it a lot harder/ it takes longer to get in to a decent Snatch Recieve position if you keep bench pressing.

Standing upright with the bar over head in a wide grip is not the same as the bottom Snatch recieive position.

Well, it doesn’t seem to be hurting my bench like I thought. I got a rep PR this week (3x110x3, I know it doesn’t seem like much to you guys, but that’s real good for me) and that was after C&J and jerks from the rack. I also got a dead lift PR recently, 275, which previously I could not do raw and a rep PR for squats (3x190x3). Not to say that oly lifting is the only factor, but I’m sure it helped!
I have to start training heavy in 2 weeks with gear, I’m hoping to have some gains from the last geared session in October/November.

No, I wish!

Few words about my own PL & OLY lifting.

Ive been training for about ten years now. Five last yaers Ive been doing (RAW) powerlifting and about two last years Ive been training olympic lifts too.
My PRs are: (kilograms)(PL lifts without equipment.)
squat 195
bench 150
deadlift 230
snatch 100
clean&jerk 120

My bodyweight is between 85-90 kilos.

My weekly training looks like this
1.day
snatch
squat
good mornings
abs

2.day
bench
shoulder work
pull-ups
abs

3.day
cleans
front squat
deadlift variation
abs

4.day
snatch (light)
bench (narrow grip)
one handed dumbell rows
lateral raises
abs

If I could I would train more weightlifting and less upperbody movements, but becouse the weightlifting gym is quite far away I have to do some compromises. I only train once a week (1.day) on a decent weightlifting gym.

I just wanted to semi-bump this thread by expressing interest in the subject, and pointing anybody following this thread to:

I think a lot in that thread is relevant to this topic.

@ Louchuck:

Do whatever is more fun. If you want to be the jack of all trades just incorporate the bench to your oly lifts and keep an eye on your shoulder mobility.

One idea is you could with this combo is do all you Powerlifting in olympic fashion. Deep squats and classic deadlift is something you could think about verses the wide stance squat and sumo-deadlift. Just food for thought. Whatever you goals (strong or big) go with what works and enjoy it.
