Olympic Judo

Olympics are gonna start soon. I like watching the judo which will be shown on Japanese tv because it is one of the few sports we are actually good at, and expected to medal. I don’t know how the coverage is gonna be in other countries, but is anybody looking forward to this?

I am looking forward to the +100kg class with that Teddy Reiner kid. 204cm, 126kg 19 year old from France. Err we got Ishi who is like 180cm, 108kg(smaaaall).

Japan doesn’t seem to have a very strong team this year compared to Athens. Weird selection of the team, some old who maybe should not have been selected and some young with limited experience.

I’m hoping the youtube army will be working in full force. Maybe I can catch a few matches that way because lord knows the U.S. won’t cover it.

I like Muneta, but after Ishii ran through both Muneta and Suzuki you have to have some confidence in him. Reiner is very young, and I think either Tmenov or Ishii will take the 100+. The only other JPN male I see taking gold is Suzuki at 100. Makerov and Wang are going to be too much for Kanamaru. At least you have the Women’s division covered =)

I hate US coverage of the Olympics.

What is the average height for 100+ class players?

You can read about the current issues in that class here:

Scroll down for the video of the match, you will also be able to see the size of the guys.

With more videos of the guys in that weight area here:

That should give you a good idea.

Anybody seen an olympic schedule yet? Anyone know what days the Judo (and Tae Kwon Do)competitions will be?

Judo is from the 9th to the 15th. Lighterweights first. Tae Kwon Do I am not sure.

I’m going to be there. If you’d like I’ll post up as many pictures and videos as I can get here, depending on if/when I get access to a computer.

I’m rooting for Ishii myself. I just like the way he fights. Here’s a quote I found of his.

“Judo is a brawl guided by rules,” said Ishii, 21, who beat Suzuki at Japan’s national championship in April to win his first-ever spot in the Olympics or the worlds. “I will desparately go for the gold medal. The result is all I care about. How I fight is secondary.”

I’m certainly looking forward, I’m training with the Icelandic competitor, ?ormóður Jónsson. He’s a nice guy, strong as an ox and still quite young (25). I’m not expecting him to win any medals, but I’m happy for my nation to be represented.

I have to say I like Ishii too,

Taraje Williams-Murray is really impressive in person to watch, can he do it this year,
I dont know 60kg is super stacked
