Older Larder Ass

What are fat man pullups?

Anything going on with the adjunct positions? I did some of that in between my careers as a college professor and high school teacher. A lot of fun, but pitifully low paying.

Give Erik a high five (or whatever it is they do these days) for me.
I don’t have a pull up bar, and I am too fat to do a pullup anyways. fat man pullups are like inverted rows sort of, i put a bar on the squat rack and hang from it with my feet on a bench in front of me, so I am only pulluping with my weight from the ass up. try to keep the legs relaxed, and the butt as much under the bar as possible. since I don’t have the gear to do pulldowns in The Lab, I have to start doing pullups.

the application process on the adjunct thing takes 6 months, at least with the 2 schools I am working with. both univ of phoenix and columbia requested transcripts, and both of them require the whole 6 mos. I am still trying to get on doing some remedial stuff with the local cc, which I don’t believe requires as much slogging as the university stuff does. but I am still chasing it.

Sorry to hear that you’re having a rough time physically. Been there. Done that. That’s actually one of the big reason I left the women’s compound and moved over here. So many of us have had serious injuries/chronic pain we’ve had to work through. I think the support here is very good for that.

Goals are good. They definitely keep me moving forward and focused.
Hey Snapper. Kent reminds me that I have goals for both weight loss and trapezius engorgement. I have neglected my shrugwork, but I was 290 today, which is down another pound.

The elder meathead forum is my favourite place. i spelled it that way so the Canadians and Brett would understand.

Just as I was about to hit Page 2

3/24/11 NOT 5/3/1 deadlift accessories
back extension
45 lb bar x 7/7
35 lb plate x 10/10/10

abwheel rollouts
bw x 8/8/8/8/8

these exercises are both progressing, which makes me happy. I tried doing the back extensions with a bar, but it was both a little too heavy, and a lot too unbalanced.

Ab rollouts still aggravate the hip a little, but not as much.

had phys therapy yesterday, went well, and for the first time in what seems like forever, I was able to move around completely pain free for about 4 hours before it tightened back up. Now, a smart and responsible trainee would have gone and done their stretches at that point, but not me.

Seriously, there are some stretches I need to be doing 6-8 times per day, and I’m just not doing it. I need to if I ever want to move freely.

had an ice cream incident earlier this week, so I was at 294 this morning. should be back to 290 by monday.

keep at it Harder

Well god damn it, go fucking stretch jarhead.

I’ve had an ice cream incident or two in my time. Usually chocolate, maple walnut or ‘cookies and cream’. Late congratualtions to your son. My oldest will be 12 in June. Interesting age. Not a little kid but not a teenager. Wants a cell phone and be all grownup but still comes in your room when they have a nightmare.

yes. my weakness is peanut butter. this last one was peanut butter fudge ice cream from target. cheap and yummy. wrong thing to see and the wrong time to see it.

Thanks, and I agree 12 is a great age. Mine’ll turn 13 in 2 weeks. I am interested to see the changes in the next couple years. I don’t recall being too problematic during that time in my own life, but my parents may remember it differently (they frequently do).

I know this ice cream, I know it well…

I was a complete A-hole from 13 until, well, debatable if I ever stopped being one. But also in retrospect my parents didn’t even attempt to manage me very well.

If I didn’t get obsessed with lifting through those years I probably would have been dead. As is I came close a few times.

I’ve got the opposite of the ice cream problem at the moment. I could stand to gain a few pounds (83.5kg at the moment, weight class limit is 85kg), but for the first time in my life, ice cream does not appeal to me.

I’ll make a deal with you. You stretch and I’ll ice my hamstring. I’ve got a plastic bag and lots of snow outside. I’m going to fill it up now.

Just caught up with you from 2 pages back. Joe pretty well summed it up. And I’ve been a saint my whole life, specially the teen years.

Wouldn’t be great if you could feel like that all the time.

I saw a chiropractor (a big strong one) for a bad back and neck once who “cracked” me about and gave me a back massage and when I backed out my parking space afterwards I swear my head went round a full 360’. It was amazing.

It was back to normal the next morning though.

The fact that a PT session allowed you to feel great for four hours suggests that the feeling is possible for much longer if you can figure out how to achieve it. If I were you, I’d be doing the requisite stretches and whatever else it takes.

Loved hearing about the “ice cream incident.”

My mother has has various health issues, and some advice she gave me, that I plan on taking heed of, as I have heard it similarly from different sources is, ‘never go to a chiropractor for anything’ She always felt great afterwards and for maybe a day or so, but then said it went right back and sometimes got worse afterwards, to the point where if she didn’t go in every week for an adjustment, she couldn’t get around at all.

When I had my back issues, I went straight to an ortho - a spine specialist, did PT, cortisone, PT, cortisone, PT, etc, then surgery, no chiro for me.

Pete, I think its the things we start obsessing about in those teen years that carry us through. I think if I had only been obsessed with lifting, I’d be alot stronger now, but my obsessions were judo and rugby. Lifting was just something I could never really stop doing, even when I went 20 years stuck at the same poundages. The boy is obsesses with swimming and skiing. I hope his high school does not have a ski team.

Carl, DEAL. yesterday I wasn’t so good, but today I have hit almost all my stretches (3 times so far. 1 of the stretches I’m only supposed to do twice a day, the others 6 times, but I am keeping track) and I will hit all of them even if it means staying up late. I hope you have continued to ice the hammy. As for the ice cream, I forgive you.

Harry, Of course you were Chief!

Brett, I haven’t seen a chiro, but I’ve been tempted. My insurance only covers half the PT after I hit a $1k deductible, no chiro coverage. What I’d really like to see is an ART person. But I don’t feel like I’ve been lifting hard enough to deserve it.

Snapper, yes, a more evolved mind might make that connection, but, I still start my fire with flint and water, or at least try to…actually, that’s the reason I promised myself from now until 4/4 (next appt) I will do the stretches as demanded, and see what happens. I’ve done them thrice today, and feel pretty good, but not awesome.

Ogre, yeah, its too bad the chiros can’t do it and teach you how not to need it forever. Did the surgery and stuff fix you up? I am mistrusting of surgeons. To a carpenter, all problems are fixed with a nail, etc. Right now, I am of the mind that my surgeon is full of shiznit, and I’ll be throwing in June. We’ll see.

Thanks for playing y’all

Stretching is for old men. Guess I’d better get stretching.

John, I iced Friday after lifting, but not since. Did do some foam rolling last night, if that counts for anything. Will ice again today after lifting. Since I won’t have the need to ice much longer, I’ll switch to stretching too. Haven’t done that much since I quit going to kung fu 2 years ago. Knees are starting to get a bit cranky.

well, i am staying on top of my old-man creaking/stretching, so you better ice that hamm

230x 7 isn’t very good compared to my best (250x 9) but its coming back up. I am not going to do my usual dumbshit operation and push it too fast. take my time, let the volume make me strong.

supesetted cgbench and roze. boy, its nice to have more than 1 bar.

supersetted the shrugs and curls. I did the shrugs like the first step of how Pendlay teaches the clean. stand up, bend your legs a little, then jump and shrug. I’ll be doing shrugs and curls twice per week, cuz its all about the guns and yoke. I’m planning on pushing the weight on the shrugs up faster than all the other stuff. I wasn’t planning on curls, but my bicep felt a little tweaky during the rows, and I figure I’m getting pleny of tricep work with bbb bench and bbb military. Don’t want to look all lopsided when I get on stage with Pete.

The accessory stuff is coming back up, but again, don’t want to push it too fast. I am switching to a 4 day/week template, so the volume will be higher than I’m used to.

Damn i love lifting, even when my poundage is down. I’m glad I have time to lift 4 times a week for now.

My back is good now, had my surgery in Oct 2008. I weighed around 270-275 then, and weigh around 230 now, so that has also helped any issues I had I am sure, as much as the surgical correction did.

and keep pounding the weights, bro, even if they are lighter.

OG, if I got down to 230 I think a lot of my problems would be solved too. But I gotta get to 270 first…
