I’m a student and a housewife right now (laid-off). I already do that…sans the drink.

deloaded. left.

its weird, I always expect to feel energized and strong with the lighter workout, but I’m always disappointed. I feel run down and old. at least it was fast.
Maybe because it feels like a lunch bag let down and mentally you’re just not geared up for it. It’s hard to yell and hit your chest for a deload. Have more sex your deload week. Just an idea.
but i don’t even live in Canada

Great deload! Naw, just doesn’t have the right feel to it. Awesome deload dude! TKE ??? knee extensions?
i don’t have a band, so I take the dip belt and attach it to the cable machine and do this with 200 lbs.

5/15/10 5/3/1 bench(deload) cycle 9.

i did this on saturday before going to my heinous 2d job.

1 more deload session, then I get to start lifting again.

5/18/10 5/3/1 squat(deload) cycle 9

finally. did 5x8 of front squat at 145 and 5x8 of pulldown abz at 140.

THEN…

i did 3x5 of OHS. first time I have ever done this, and I looked and felt foolish as hell. the sets were done at a whopping 45, 65 and 85. totally could not keep straight. belly hanging out under my shirt. like chewing gum and breathing at the same time, very difficult.

I did this because on the drive to the gym at lunch I thought, well, gee, if I ever want to be able to do a snatch, I guess I better be able to do OHS. And since I made a commitment (at the same time, on the drive to the gym) to learn the olympic lifts to some degree, i figured what better way to start than to try some OHS on my deload day. I have other more pressing goals right now, so for now I will be tacking on a set or 2 of OHS at the end of my squat workout. Since I am getting pcs for a garage gym (got my first oly bar and about 150lbs of weight for $25 yesterday) I may be able to throw in a “miscellaneous accessory day” to get in some of the stuff I want to do but don’t normally have the time for.

OHS are stupid-hard. kmcnyc doing them for reps and sets causes me to involuntarily genuflect out of overwhelming respect. If you keep at them you will have a core capable of deflecting depleted uranium bullets.

Never feel foolish for trying to improve.
I do bastardized snatchs (no jokes) but I’ve never been able to do an over head squat. How far down are you getting? Good goal by the way.

First couple of times I did OHS, I completely lost the bar. It made so much noise the gym folks came running to see what was the matter. Very embarassing. After that, I made sure I could OHS the EMPTY bar without any problems before trying to put plates on, and it took a while to get the mobility where it needed to be to barely call what I did an overhead squat.

Nice work.

I cant get ATG because my bad knee doesn’t bend that far, but I was getting below parallel. it put alot of strain on my posterior delts holding the weight back far enough to stay in balance.

With your bad shoulder, I can imagine it would be nearly impossible to get into that weird position for OHS.

Interesting thing on this was, when I do front squats, I need to have my feet and knees closer together than when I back squat. On the OHS, my leg position was more similar to how I stand for back squats.

I need to get some technique help on these, so I will be spending lots of time watching Carl’s videos.

I foresaw this happening to me, which is why I started with the bar. luckily, there were no real witnesses, because I was over at the kerl, i mean squat racks where nobody ever is.

Looks like you are dreaming gooder. Nice deal with the OHS

I can’t even come close to an OHS. I’ve already accepted I’ll never snatch or OHS. Its a cross I have to bear.

I’m with everyone else, any OHS is a damn good one. I’ve been practicing with a broom handle and I still suck at it…

props for working on the OHS, I started but stopped almost right away to work on MPs to be familiar with having a bar overhead (in other words, I wussed out)

Hmm. I had an earlier post in here and now its gone. You all will just have to trust that it was poignant and inspirational.

Echoing that any ohs is good work. Like the oly lifts, it takes such a combination of strength and flexibility that they are pretty impressive.

Yea, right. I bet it’s made of Balsa Wood.

Tear it up!!

nice work

OHS are truly my all time favorite. And truth be told my best diagnostic tool.
I find the OHS to help with my squat mechanics- more then anything.
they realy force correct form.

youll find they hell all kinds of thing.

thanks for all the support guys. I found that doing OHS with 85 lbs hit my quads down by the knee harder than doing front squats with twice that much. go figure. Carl says I should consider putting something under the heel. I will try that sunday. now that I have some more gear at home, I have designated sunday as my “miscellaneous accessory day”, wherein i shall get some OHS, barbell kerlz and some other stuff i never get to do any more. if I can get my hands on a harness, i might start doing some neck

5/20/10 5/3/1 weighted dips(5) cycle 10
290x 15 (15lb PR on the calculator)

i have to work through lunch today, so no deadlifties. That’s okay, I am feeling a little run down, and deadlifting would bring on some kind of systemic weakness/pathology/plague thing. I’ll deadlift on Monday. this weekend hoping to do some walking and miscellaneous accessories. also hoping to walk in front of my sled for awhile, but we’ll see how that goes.
