Great work on the flossing MJ. Do you use double overhand or a mixed grip? I find a wider foot spacing hits the outer molars more!
Good luck with all the goals.

Close-stance flossing builds the thighs better and teaches one balance during vigorous flossing.
The throwing looks like its going great.
stick with it mj, you’re on a roll
I’m a big flosser. Twice daily. That’s why I’m so buff.
I may just have to do a walk about one of these days and head out and hook up with you and Carl for a Highland Meet. The old folks division can be tougher than the "B"s when it starts at 40. Got a bunch of world record holders out this way. William Wallace (yeah, real name) is like Carl and set the world recoerd for the under 200# Masters WOB at my final meet of last year. Jeff Baty, at 54, Went 32’ with the sheaf for another WR.
Did you get the dental floss thing from Danny John?

Danny did plant the thought in my head. And I am a terribly inconsistent flosser. So, I figured, while I’m changin’ behaviors and all…
I’d love to go out east and throw with you and the Clan MacBubba. But first i gotta grow me some throws like you and Carl have.

1/9/11 day 7/21
did not walk
did no hindu squats
did not stay on diet (blew 2 meals)
Flossed! (see, not a loser)
figuring 5 meals per day, I have blown 4 of 35 meals. I am less than 90% compliant on my diet. That means I am weak, and should be berated.
You all can come to Las Vegas in April for our once a year games. No sheaf however. My travel budget is already accounted for this year, with Nationals in Weightlifting in April and T&F in June, probably Masters Worlds in HG in August, and an outside chance at World Masters in Weightlifting in September.
Just hit the next 5 meals and you’re up to 90%. That’s pretty good.
Harry, have her berate me Harder.
Carl, you have to better at losing if you want to save your travel money. In april there is a spot on the calendar for either vegas or excremento april 17 or 24. I am 98% sure that I can’t go. but I am not counting it out for sure quite yet
1/10/11, day 8/21
walked
hindu squated for 14
flossed
stayed on diet so I am now 90% (36/40) compliant (thanks Carl)
Lifties: 5/3/1 Bench(5) cycle 13
220x 9 (needed 15 for PR)
270x 1
5/3/1 barbell roze
190x 10 (253, pr+8)
235x 1
BBB Mil 105x 10/10/10/10/10
BBB Pulldown 180x 10/10/10/10/9.75
Good day for lifting, still not quite ready to go real hard on bench, but soon.
Bad day for life, fought with wife and son about my beard (I’m growing it and they are hating it) too bad for them. (note that this hate was put to good use this morning, day 9, but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow to read about it)
1/11/11 day 9/21
weighed 292
walked 30 min
hindu squatted 16
flossed
blew 1 of 5 meals, so I am now at 40/45 compliant
After I walked, I decided to give pushing my car a try. nice flat pc of ground, did about 8 pushes of 10 yards just to test it out. felt pretty good
In retrospect, I had less trouble with my hip all day. This makes me think I am right about it being a muscle imbalance, and doing stuff like squats and pushing cars and stuff will help in the long run.
My knee is also coming along. I am getting my knee bent more and more, and I am probably cleaning out some old scar tissue. In addition to better ROM, it also hurts less.
Sounds like slow but steady progress. Keep it up.
1/12/11 day 10/21
weighed 292
walked 15 min
hindu squat 18
flossed
stayed on diet (45/50, back close to 90%)
Pushed car 15 yards 12 times. I wouldn’t call these sprints, I just want to get used to doing the work.
I watched Dan John’s 1 hour oly lifting seminar from his website. did some of the stuff in there, was able to acheive a decent bottom position.
today is squat day!
Can anyone call pushing a car sprints? Anyone?
Never watched Dan’s vid. Think I’ll give it a go. Need some help getting down into the oly squat position for cleans and snatches. Figured I was past the stage where I’d ever be able to get down like that. Good going on the car pushing. Isn’t that harder on your knee than just walking?

Jim Wendler can [all genuflect in his name]

a guy i throw with told me the pain in my knee is not coming from the bones rubbing together, but from my IT band. he showed me a stretch for it, and miraculously, my knee doesn’t bug me so much any more. its damaged, sure, but there is no real pain like I used to have. What does bug me is that from years of babying my knee by limiting the range of motion, I now have limited range of motion, which things like those really deep squats help, I think, because it helps clear some of the scar tissue.
To answer your question, though, pushing the car is harder on my knee then just walking, but so is everything else that is more challenging than walking, and walking is just not enough. unless I was putting in the kind of mileage you do of course. but i only walk for 30 minutes, not all day.
My #1 challenge besides my porkitude, is my hip. As I do more work that uses the glutes it is getting better a little. Now I have to add in some stuff for the hip flexor.
