As far as staying with the diet, just think how muck quicker you will be on all your throws next year.

11/8/10 5/3/1 Bench(1) cycle 11
250x 3

bbb military
115x 10/10/10/10/8/2

pulldownz
195x 10/10/10/10/8/2

bench was a little light. according to the calculator, my 235x6 from last bench session is 5# more than today. But, I can live with it. I had a new Doom-laden soundtrack today from Shrinebuilder and Crowbar to muffle out the sounds of commercial gym hell.

a good time was had by all. or at least all of them that mattered. mainly me.

i am actually thinking of this very much

As you all know by now, today is the Marine Corps’ 235th birthday. You’re Welcome.

I celebrated by doing 2 things for the first time:

  1. today was the first time I dragged my fat ass into the gym for some conditioning work. I am doing this very short stationary bike thing where you do 1 minute low then 1 minute hard for 5 intervals. By the time I finished, there was not much difference between the lo and hi. Also, I am not absolutely sure if I got 5 intervals or only 5.
  2. After talking shit about it for 2 years, today I actually started doing the rehab work on my left leg. this was done by doing 1 leg squats off about a 6" box. I did 5 sets of 15 on the bad (left) leg with body weight, and did 4 sets of 11 on the good leg. I don’t want to get too much training effect on the good leg, but I don’t want to groove the movement on one side and not the other. Since I got all sets of 15, I’ll raise the box by 2" next time.

The key here will be consistency. I should see some improvement in GPP and size/strength/usefulness of my bad leg if I can keep doing it.

Well, it’ll be interesting to see if I actually have any balls and keep doing it. Once my conditioning improves enough so that I can actually do the bike intervals to completion with some actual intensity, I will add some complexes and/or tabatas at the end. baby steps, i have never been this deconditioned, and its pretty embarassing. just saying

Looking good. Most of us suck in the beginning. Non-suckiness lies in persevering.

I need more consistency in my training as well. And strictly adhere to the 5/3/1 program. I keep getting side tracked. You gonna get the new 5/3/1 for powerlifters when it comes out? Did you read the article on this site about the updated version?

yesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes!

11/11/10 5/3/1 skwat(1) cycle 11

315x 1 (was supposed to be 330x 1, but that just wasn’t happening)

1 set of each accessory instead of 5.

well, after 4 months i can finally put that cycle to bed! I will be making some decreases in my training maxes. I like where military is, but deadlift and squat are both going down 20 lbs. I just can’t get any reps at this weight, and I have noticed it comes back faster, and develops quicker, when I can get the reps up.

I think the reasons for today’s suckage were twofold: 1) the diet, obviously, losing close to a pound every other day for almost a month is bound to hurt the energy levels. 2) second, I had about 4-6oz of Rye last night, toasting the Corps, those that came before, go now, and will come. Whiskey the night before a squat session generally doesn’t end well.

Thus ends cycle 11. since I’m doing the 2 days/week template, there is no deload, so I get to start cycle 12 on saturday with some militaries. Yum.

I haven’t had whiskey in a couple months. I miss it. Have some for me this weekend if you would. Thank you.

I live at the bottom of a large hill, and keep telling myself I should run up it for conditioning, but always find a Really Good Excuse not to. Yesterday - I took Vet’s Day off, the way everybody should have - was spent chasing my 7-year-old daughter and a neighborhood boy around; I was The Tickle Monster, although after chasing those small but nimble kids I was the Winded Monster more than anything.

I tried explaining to my daughter that I may be taller but I’m also 40 years older, which explains why I needed to stop for a breath, but it didn’t seem to register with her.

So, I encourage your efforts to bike, walk the hill, whatever as a means to get in better shape.

So did you drink any fancy booze this weekend? I’m still dry.

Any particular reason for this? I haven’t had a whiskey in 10 yrs. I don’t miss it anymore.

i talk about whiskey more than i drink it. once or twice per month in what is usually smallish quantities.

I did not enjoy any rye this weekend. too hectic, plus some work-related drama. Also didn’t military in the lab over the weekend,or any conditioning, so I get to that today. I will eventually figure something out so that my weekends aren’t totally wasted. This weekend, due to the work-related drama, was spent snarfing comfort foods, so I’m back up to 291. I can still make 275 by thanksgiving, but I’m going to have to show some backbone.

ag, chase the kids up the hill. attach a rope to them so they can help you.

rug, why would you want to not drink whiskey?

stevie, why you dry brother? if my inlaws lived in something attached to my house, dryness would be out of the question - and I kind of like them.

Like you I just don’t get to it I’m so busy. Maybe this weekend. I think you’d enjoy the farmers walk thing I made. And it was real easy to build.

mmmm… whiskey
we have had this conversation before, and with the weather getting cooler up here, nothing warms the cockles (what the hell are cockles anyways?) of my heart more than a nice sippin’ whiskey.

Nice training to MJ… and happy belated to the Marine Corp.!

11/15/10 5/3/1 Military(5) cycle 12
135x 10
170x 1/1

bbb cgbench
165x 10/10/10/10/9

bbb bb roze
165x 10/10/10/10/10

10 at 135 is better than my last session, which was 135x8. got a pair of singles at 170, up 5 lbs from 165. felt pretty good. the bbb stuff is going well too. energy is still real low, so I have to take a lot more time between sets than i’d like to, but the strength is coming back.

Bad things happen when I drink. It would always lead elsewhere. The solution…Don’t partake of any of it. It’s worked for 10yrs and counting.

You’re work outs are looking good. Question. With your knee condition, what are you capable of doing? What I mean. Is there a limitation on how far you can ever go or is it a matter of slowly building it up? Keep up the good work on the diet.

I gotta say that’s a pretty good reason!
