Older Larder Ass

Sounds like you did really well. Congrats.

Weekend report:

Drank 5/7 of a 1/5th of rye whiskey

Hung out with my old college fraternity bros

If any of you are familiar with Arches National Park, we hiked out to partition arch, Navajo arch, delicate arch, landscape arch, double arch, turret arch and windows. Also hiked the length of Park Avenue, and walked around Balanced Rock which wasnâ??t a hike as its right by the road. Most of this was done on Sunday, with the requisite hangover from Saturdayâ??s Rye-fest. probably something less than 10 miles hiking, but some of it was pretty steep.

I chose not to throw on Monday. Because I am a pussy. Monday night, my wife would not let me lift, also, because I am a pussy.

10/12/10, I chose to throw badly.

Spent 30 minutes making a throwing box out of rope. 4â??6â?? wide and 9â?? long. That way I can practice NOT SCRATCHING.

I threw the 25lb weight 10 times, and felt fairly satisfied with my progress in terms of form.

I threw the 35lb weight 6 times, really poorly. I have noticed that when I get a little tired, I canâ??t keep my knees bent, so I was stiff legging it during the spins. This doesnâ??t work for shit, and it kind of hurts. So I stopped throwing the weight.

I did 5 sets of 5 winds with a 22â?? hammer. Trying to get control of it. So Carl, 25 winds! I then did 3 sets of 4 wind throws, working hard to control the wind and accelerate. Felt like some of my best throws so far.

Since we wonâ??t be tossing the caber on the 30th, I didnâ??t practice that. I will later, just cuz its fun, but a 12â?? caber is cheating. Its good for practicing the pick and balance though.

under some time pressure, so I will hit y’all’s logs manana.

35lb weight x 16. 3 sets of 3, the rest doubles.

22lb hammer. 40 winds. the winds are feeling much more controlled now, and I suppose that’s a good thing. I also did 3x 4-wind releases that didn’t go very far. but they were very consistent. I marked the first throw, the second landed on top of the marker, and the 3rd hit close enough to knock the marker over. too bad it was only 36’.

65 winds for the month.

I feel a little better about the weight. towards the end, I was getting a good knee bend as I landed on each spin, and the weight was going farther. 26’ for the 35#. my best with the 25# was only 28’ yesterday.

Tommorrow, if I can hit 5 decent throws with the 35#, I’ll go to the 45# for the rest of the month. I am not going to do any more releases with the hammer for a week. I want to see what happens to my throws if I just pound the winds.

still no time to visit everyone’s logs, so I’ll give that a try tomorrow

16 throws with the 35 is a real good workout. I’m throwing with 3 winds of the hammer. 4th wind slows down. Difinitely considering making spikes for next year. I keep throwing baseball bat rather than up over the shoulder. 40 winds is a good amount. You’re really getting into the swing of it (cheap pun)

Workouts are looking good. I would count the winds you do when you release as part of the total. Try some winds with the 16lb hammer after the 22lber. They feel like they’re going a thousand miles an hour.

Really nice workouts MJ. You are making huge strides!

Thanks guys, I’m really having a blast with this throwing stuff.

I think its been nearly 2 months since I deadlifted and it really showed. 5 was the minimum, and it was actually a triple and 2 doubles. my lower back has gotten a little weaker, and my grip really sucked. I rigged up a decline sit up bench from leftover bench parts between sets of front squat. The main lift and the accessories were divided by about an hour, but that is probably how it is going to go when I lift at home.

It will take a couple weeks to feel back in the saddle, and I may need to once again lower my training maxes, but once I am chasing rep maxes again, the training max doesn’t really matter.

The jury is out on whether or not I will be able to throw at lunch today. I am thinking not, but we will have to see how it goes.

You’ll be back at your maxes in no time MJ. Hope you get to throw at lunch.

It would be quite the drive for your wife to train with me. Does she like to lift? Hee hee.

no, and she doesn’t like sex either. Since it only takes a couple seconds, you’d think she wouldnt mind…

nope, p-chain was locked tight, no throwing.

I walked up 5 flights of stairs last night to help kill of the doms. it is manageable this morning, so I think some throwing will happen at lunch today.

i tried to throw today. I got 9 or 10 spins in with the weight but only got 1 decent throw. I think its because I am still hammered from deadlifting wednesday.

I did 100 winds with the 22# hammer. that makes 165 for the month

100 all in one day? That’s a lot. After about 30 with the 22lber, I’m glad to give it up for the little one.

A couple of seconds? No wonder she doesn’t like it!

Since I couldn’t throw the stinking weight, I had to do something…

I just found out my son has a swim meet on the day of the last highland games, so my season is now over.

I briefly flirted with the idea of missing his meet, but I already had my childhood, so I guess its time to participate in his.

I don’t really mind. but I’ll miss seeing Carl throw, and with the throws he’s been getting in practice, he is definitely going to do well.

That is a good choice. A tough choice, but a good choice.

thanks Jack

weights were disturbingly light, and 225 has never felt that heavy in my hands. Right now, I am afraid I will never be strong. My hip is also giving me hell. I might actually be sick. i hope not. other than the same old run-over-by-a-truck feeling, i feel the same as ever.

wow. that was a lot more work than 295 should be. and I couldn’t get 5x10 at 185 on DL. 3-4 months ago I was hitting 5x10 at 235. I didn’t think it was possible to get this weak, this fast. Well compararively speaking anyway. at least I was able to get the 5x295 so I don’t feel compelled to adjust my training max downward again.

I sure hope that my strength comes back relatively quickly, because this sux!

i felt stronger today. decided to add regular rows into the mix, because I’ve never done them, and therefore cannot do as much as I should be able to. Once I get used to it, I may 5/3/1 the rows in order to get stronger on them. we’ll see.

shoulders are a little tweaked. the lack of rotator cuff prehab over the past few months prolly. I’ll need to be catching up on that.

I feel like my strength is starting to come back a little, but its offset by my lack of energy.

I am currently trying to lift 4x per week, since i don’t do any conditioning to speak of.
