Nice squats. I set up and did those land mines last week. Toughest part was putting the bar down at the end of the set. I was using bumpers so I ended up deciding to just let it drop from about waist high. If I do them again I will probably go find a box to set them on.
yeah…that is a pain. a box would make it easier.
Dude is training to defeat the avengers
Real shit though your strong af , I tried the buffalo bar the other day , feels so good. Don’t wanna go back to straight bar tbh
training to defeat old age…lol.
i agree..once you squat with a buffalo bar it’s hard to go back to a straight bar. It requires you to use your upper back muscles to maintain an upright position but it takes all the stress off the shoulders and elbows.
stumbled upon one of my old youtube channels from when i was an owner in a powerlifting gym. thought i would post up a couple videos every now and again of the crazy shit we used to do.
i was chasing a 600lb front squat. the weight wasn’t the problem. the problem was racking the weight before i passed out from lack of oxygen to my brain…lol. it explains a lot about the state of my mental health now..lol
i really miss the atmosphere i had there. i feel like a hungry wolf at a dog park nowadays…
Strong lifting. You smoked that 675. Damn.
those were the days… i drank like a fish back then too…crazy.
Deadlifts, rows and curls
Still doing a 5x5 at the end of my deadlift session. I upped the working weight by 30lbs this week and all my reps still felt pretty fast. Here’s the last set of 5 with 545
Bent over rows-
increased my top set by 30lbs and they still feel pretty clean. Will increase them again next week.
top set was 365x5
Seated plated loaded preacher curl-
i really like using this machine to do single arm preacher curls. we did sets of 20 reps and just added 10lbs every set. Started with a 45lb plate and then added a 10 on top of it on each set until we got to 105lbs x 20
I had the week off from work so I was was pretty slack on posting my training. Here’s a few videos from some of the stuff I did.
Your like one of the only guys I’ve seen who uses knee wraps, awesome. I was taught to use the wraps to save my knees so I learnt how to use them pretty early on. Feels like everyone is gravitating towards raw lifting these days outside a few untested guys, seems like an old school thing.
Do you prefer wearing them? Or working around an injury?
I love using knee wraps on squats. Squatting puts a lot of stress on the knee joint as well as the quad tendons. I use a pretty light knee wrap and I wrap them pretty loose. They’ve definitely saved my knees. Knock on wood, my knees feel great. I don’t use them on accessory stuff with the slant board, high reps or one legged stuff- only squats. I also don’t rebound my squats. I typically do a slight pause on all of them to protect the knees. I’m pretty lucky but I also train smart. Most guys my age that have lifted the weights I’ve lifted in my life can barely walk now. A lot of that has to do with poor training when they were young.
Here are some highlights from my last two training sessions. Haven’t gotten in to the gym as many times as I would like but I’m still making progress so that’s good!
Deadlift- I’ve been doing 3x3 for about two months now and i’m hoping to keep pushing these until my bar speed slows. Still feels pretty fast. This was my last set of 3x3 with 585.
Squats- I’ve been stopping at 4 plates (420) on buffalo bar squats for the last couple of months so last night i finished with 4 plates x 8 and then moved it up to 440 for an easy two. I think i’ll hit this for 5 next week and add more weight. It would be nice to hit 500lbs on these without a belt.
Did three backoff sets of three plates (330) for 10 reps- no wraps or belt. They felt pretty light.
For my single leg work i did lunges onto the slant board. These add a huge stretch to the groin which is much needed after squatting. I did five sets of these working up to 135.
that’s it. deadlifts on Thursday.
Deadlifts, rows and bicepticals
I’m going to do a three week cycle of dead stop deadlifts. These are a great variation to increase your deadlift without having to go heavy on your deads. I finished at the top weight with a 3x3 with 475. next week i’ll up it to 495.
did some t-bag rows for the ol’ lats. Did sets of 10 up to 200lbs. posterior chain was smoked from the deadlifts though.
Did a circuit of dumbell preacher curls, standing neutral grip dumbell curls and reverse grip barbell curls to finish up.
HAH. No freaking way I thought I’d see you on here again. Glad to see you are still at it. I don’t post on here much anymore, but I’ll certainly swing through to see how you are doing on occasion. You’ve got me by a decade, and I’m already tilting and the windmill of old age.
Since you are front squatting again, you should try and come back and win the old 405 front squat competition after training for it. Hah. I don’t remember how many reps each of you did though. One of the darkest days on the old T-nation.
Strong as usual in here. How often are you deadlifting? Is that 2 times this week?
it’s been a long time my friend!! I’m still plugging along. The wonders of TRT..lol!!
That’s funny..i had totally forgot about that stupid contest. I really should have made it about max front squat, not reps. I’ve hit a front squat in the mid 500’s recently with the buffalo bar. Been spending most of my time trying to get my deadlift up over 700lbs.
Please do stop in and say hi. Time sure does fly my friend.
