That’s a funny story.

Eco, there seem to be a number of guys that do cleans at the golden foofoo, but they are awfully lean, and I don’t really trust that…

jw, I forgive everything cuz of your cute kitty avatars.

The only thing I do that gets stares is when I drag my tire at the park. The girls always ask if I am a fighter. I always say yes cuz I likes girlz.[/quote]

hahahahahahahaha… MJ… snicker snicker- snort (wiping tears from eyes)… ahhhh, you kill me man… heh-heh!

I am a J.D. man, which is kinda rare up in these parts, but it is startin’ to gain popularity. I like Jamesonss as well… I am Scottish and Irish background, which means I like to drink, just not paying for it… lol!

Ive been neglecting ab work, and I really paid for it today. My lower back feels like its being held together with needles, which are poking into my spinal cord. Ow. Still, a pretty good workout, and except for numbness in my lower limbs every time I move and light-headedness (which Ive always enjoyed), I feel nearly gorillaish.

I found the straight leg raises to be particularly humiliating. Oh well, it?ll get stronger with work, and Ive been neglecting it, so its my fault.

I bought some t-shirts with attitude, and wore one of them today. It says ?weak people don?t know squat? with a big graphic of a loaded monolift. Now, its time for me to live up to the shirt.

Plus, DOC IS BACK!!!

Have a great weekend, and Train Harder

Me too, hence the crown/styrofoam cups/russian emigre/parking lot incident. My wife was really mad, and said I was being really immature. I said “that’s what you are, but what am I”.

Yeah… girls are dumb. And they have koodies (sp?).

Ok, that made me laugh. Thanks.

LMAO…there’s some funny posts fellas, you guys are a riot! Great training John, 300+ on GMs! You’re an animal.

2/8/09 ME Bench
2-board press:
5x 45/95/135/185/225
3x 275
1x 315/315/325/335(missed) (325 is 10lb PR)
Lockouts, 3? above chest
225x 1/1/1/1/1 (3 sec rest)
245x 1/1/1/1/1 (11 sec rest)
265x 1/1/1 (17 sec rest)
Lying barbell triceps extension
115 x 0
Push Down
190 x 10/10/13 ^
1-arm press
40x 15/15/15 ^

Training Sunday was a major mistake, even though the actual session went well. I have been fighting off the flu, and this workout really seated the bug in me.

On the 2-board, 335 didn?t even leave the board. But, 325 is still a PR for me. This was a gym with a lame power rack, so the holes are spaced really far apart. My choices were just off my chest, or the same position as the 2-board. I realized that my arms are so short, I probably cant do 4-board presses. 5-board would be above lockout.

I guess I should consider them pin presses, but I don?t know what to think. My tris were so cooked, I couldn?t even get 1 at 115 on the barbell triceps extensions, even though this has been my training poundage for 3 weeks.

Today, I took half a sick day and slept in. I don?t know how high my fever is, but my skin is on fire. Somebody call me a waaaaaaahhmbulance. But I am in the saddle now, whiny and miserable, but at my desk nonetheless. I don?t see me training tomorrow, unless this magically goes away.

I knew I was in trouble when I got up after pin presses and was very lightheaded. It was like a 3-drink lightheadedness, which isn?t totally unpleasant, but probably not really safe in the gym. Or at work, but Im not really involved in brain surgery, so what the hell ? it made me feel hardcore at the time.

Train more dumbly.

I never understand the guys that tell you working out when you’re sick is great because it’ll help kick the bug…never worked for me…hangovers either…in college I had a buddy that’d call me Friday morning after being out until 4 a.m. on thursday and want to go lift…I took him up on it once and threw up…never took him up again.

Hope your feeling better buddy. Lotsa fluids and junk food works for me.

I promised myself on Monday that I wouldn?t Tuesday. I felt like warmed over crap on Monday. Tuesday I felt pretty good, I was actually able to function at the office, which was a major upgrade from Monday, so I figured ahhhh what the hell better train. So. I had a damned fine session. I think 235 is the most I?ve used for dynamic box squatting, and the bar speed was about 90% of where I would want it.

Faster than 225 was last week. I had trouble on the 10th set, so I did an extra. 45 degree back raise was really painful last week, but felt awesome this time. Increases on the 1-leg press and rows as well.

Now, here is something I found interesting. You guys may have already discovered this, but if not, check it out. In the past when Ive done 45 degree back raises, it works mostly your back and maybe the upper part of the glutes.

I found that if instead of having the pad set just below the waist like usual, if you set the top of the pad even with the top of the thigh (just above ones junk, so to speak) it works the lower back, entire glute, and some work on the hammies as well. I thought this was cool, and figured Id share just in case this is new stuff.

So, I am tending to have stellar training sessions when I?m sick. A little counter-intuitive, but what the heck. I think my fever is down, but Ive been sweating non stop since about 8pm Monday night. I don?t usually sweat a ton when I lift, but yesterday I was sweating as if Id been doing something aerobic (as if!)

I have to take a little time off work today for my son?s ?President Program? at school ? he gets to be Andrew Jackson. Tomorrow is parent teacher conference, so I?ll be missing a training session there. I?ll try to pick it up on Friday, but it might just be a skip. The kid is the only acceptable reason to miss a session, so I can live with it.

Bunny, I am getting the fluids, but trying to stay away from the junk food. Trying to get my diet dialed in. Yesterday, I successfully avoided the bagel-fest they had at work. Today, I’m eating pretzels, cuz their free. I also decided to cut down my protein intake. I was drinking 3-4 shakes per day with about 60g protein each.

I decided to cut my shakes to 45g of protein on all except pre- and post-workout shakes. Instead of getting 1g/lb of bodyweight, I am switching to 1g/lb of what-should-be-my-bodyweight. I’m over 30% bodyfat, and I can only use the help-you-out-of-the-hole excuse for about 20% of that.

Train Sicker
john

Keep hammering away!Hope you get to feeling better.

Thanks Jimmy!

Are you talking about hyper extensions? We have one machine set at 45 degress.

Training while sick is a challenge.
when I had to train- college- it was a real challenge now I try to work through or around with different stuff.
I will admit to some fine lifting while sick
I just need more time to warm up and get moving.
as for training while hungover I guess I had to suck it up ( one more reason I dont drink)

feel better, Ill take a look at the back extension vairant…

Nice work OL… I here ya on the diet thing. I am doing the same thing with my protein intake… a little bit higher than 1 gram per pound of (lean) bodyweight. A little easier to manage.

I’m talking about one of these:
http://www.elitefts.com/documents/back_raise.htm

They are always set on 45 degrees. For me, by lowering the pad, I end up hitting the glutes and hammies like you might expect with a reverse hyperextension. I was just surprised, cuz I always thought of it as a lower back only kind of exercise.

That’s for sure. I wasn’t dropping any lard, and it was kind of hard on the gut. I only changed about 3 days ago, and my innards already feel much better.

Thanks for playing, playa!

Not as fancy as that one but it’s the same thing. Found the same thing. Lower I put the pad the more I hit the hams and glutes.
