My son added a song to our Itunes called thunderhorse by Dethklok. Can’t decide if I like it or not. I’m on a WS/Wendler type routine right now. Its working so far. Good work MJ.

Thanks, Eco! I like ‘blood ocean’ better. You know dethklok is a cartoon band from the cartoon “Metalocalypse”. I just finished the DVD of season 2. very funny.
3/31/09 ME Bench
Ball Press
60x 18/13
55x 13/16
Seated DB military
45x 10/8
40x 10/8
35x 10
Incline barbell triceps extensions
115x 6/6/6/6/6 ^
Superset with barbell reverse kerlz
70x 8/10/10/14^
Face pulls
100x 12
90x 15/12
80x 15
In and out in an hour. I can?t believe how weak I am. Ball press was supposed to be 3 sets of 20. military was supposed to be 5 sets of 10. face pulls was supposed to be 5 sets of 15. I am totally not used to sets with lots of reps. I have decided that I don?t like it.
On the other hand, all the reps have made me feel most swole and hyooooge.
Train bigger,
john
You put in the hard work and feeling swole is part of the reward.Solid training.
Old swolness has a nice ring to it…
nice work

So what are you now some kinda bodybuilder? When you’re used to 1-5 reps anything after 8 reps gets tough.
Never a bodybuilder, that would require dropping fat, and who wants that?
No, you know my blind adherence to the template. The last 2 microcycles of Westside For Beginners is kind of high rep stuff on bench/accessory exercises.

That’s one of the reasons that I am switching to 5/3/1. I want to be bull-strong AND be able to do more than 5 reps without considering it cardio 8*)
The bad news is that I missed my workout today, which was scheduled for DE Squat. I had a meeting scheduled right at 1pm, and I didn’t get out of the office early enough to train. Of course, I just found out that the meeting is cancelled, and I could have trained, so now I’m sad. My son’s 11th birthday is on Saturday, so I will likely miss my weekend training session as well. I don’t really think I needed a 1 week break, but it looks like Im getting one anyway. As usual, I’ll make up for not training by not dieting. My karma will remain in balance.

now, time to poop on everyone elses threads
I like the not train and make up for it by not dieting… awesome.
I have a friend at work who is always saying
lets take a half hour lunch, blow off afternoon coffee and leave an hour early.
its an easy sell except to the client/producer.
nothing is wrong with a coerced de-load.

Your excuses beat mine…drank way too much gin on Tuesday night…woke up still mostly drunk…left work early and went home to sleep…effin’ gin will sneak up on ya !!!
hey guys, change to the training plan. I finally found a powerlifting meet here in Utah on May 23rd, so that will be my first meet.
I start training with 5/3/1 tomorrow (saturday) instead of finishing my WS cycle. I asked wee jimmy Wendler (author of 5/3/1) some programming questions, and offered to be his old fat 6 week test case.
I’ll keep posting my workouts. I am very excited…

Tear it up Harder!

You da man !!
4/6/09 531 Military
Usual old warmup/prehab/yoga/kwearness
Military Press:
65% - 105 x 5
75% - 120 x 5
85% - 140 x 9
10x 75/75/75/75/65
Pull Downs
150x 10
160x 10
170x 10
170x 9
150x 7
In and out, 1 hour from leave desk until return to desk. My evil plan is working bwaahaahaahaa.
Im fairly excited to see how this program works for me. Of the 4 big lifts, military is my weakest lift, followed closely by the other 3. My shoulders are way swole.
Train Hyoogely

Just started today as well. Good numbers.
I’m doing this program as well. Looks we are using the same Military numbers. sfp’s right on our tails, too.
That’s great! As much as I love the Westside stuff, I think this is the next big thing. Meaning, the next step in the evolution of strength training.
I didn’t mind putting in the work with the westside template I was using, it was the number of hours in the gym that was killing me. In order to make as big a change as possible, I am using the “boring but big” accessory template.
As for the numbers, yeah, you and I bench about the same, too. Sadly, I am 100 lbs heavier. On the other hand, I saw Hannah Johnson (the Mynx) hit our bench and squat numbers at 145 pounds. You pull more than her, but i don’t…
My goal is to double my total. I wonder how long that will take…
Don’t worry about the weight difference; I weigh 204 as of today, and still don’t have Skid’s numbers.
We’ll get there!

Us old bastards gotta take it slow…“no pain = no gain” is now “out due to injury = shrinkage” or something like that…

You and me both brother!
The wife, too, but I don’t think she was talking about weightlifting…
4/7/09 531 Deadlift
Deadlift:
5x 135/205/255/290
330x 4
10x 205/205/205
I was supposed to hit 5 or more reps at 330. this means that I have to decrease my ?training max? from 385 to 375. I guess I bit off a little more than I could chew.
I only did 3 of the planned 10 sets of accessory, due to a meeting at work.
So, I have learned a couple lessons here on my 2d day of 5-3-1: I need a day off before deadlift day, and I need to leave my ego at the door, which is why I?m making an immediate decrease in my training max. And, my deadlift is more weaker than even my military press. On the other hand, the added volume at lower weight that I do as accessory work I will expect to pay off in better fitness as well as bigger lifts.
I am trying to do this as a 4-day per week thing. Since I couldn?t make it to the gym over the weekend, I decided to go Monday Tuesday Thursday Saturday this week. I may end up going back to 3/week, Ill just have to see how this goes.
