My elbow is slowly getting better. I could do light pulldowns today. I’m pretty confident it should be good for the meet. Just one more light lifting day and then stretching and cardio for a week.

That’s it. Just stretching and cardio for the next six days. I normally would only do my opener today, but I wanted to test my elbow. Due to my injury, I have been wearing elbow sleeves this entire training cycle. Today I trained without the sleeves. Both lifts were no problem.

My setup was a little off at 300, but that might have been my lift off. One of my young officers was there. I asked if he could lift me off. He said, “Only if I can say I worked out with you.” I told him that was fine. He gave me a really strong lift and nearly lifted me and the bar off the bench.

I still have some pain in my elbow, but I have slacked off rehab the past few days. I’ll get back on ice and compression this week.

I did a little stretching too.

According to the bathroom scale, I’m well under weight, but you can’t be too careful. We’ll head out around noon and I should get there around 2:00 or 3:00. The elbow is feeling much better. Now, however, the left knee has decided to swell up. One of my clerks at work said something about getting old…

I’m pretty confident about my first two lifts, since I am going to start pretty light. After that we’ll see.

It was not bad, all things considered.

We arrived Friday for weigh in. There were no issues there. I met up with my two friends, who were competing with me. One is 74 and the other 80. I slept well that night and had a good hotel breakfast.

Due to my assortment of injuries I opened real light. 275 was my bench opener. I smoked it really easy. I then went to 303 for the next. Again, there were no issues. I was going to keep things light for number three. I told them I wanted 314 for the next. I walked off and the lady at the desk told me to come back. She reminded me the state record was 335. I said, “Let’s go for it.” I had a good lift off, and I was strong off the chest. I then got jammed up about halfway up.

I was light on deadlift as well and opened at 365. It was easy. I then went to 404 for number two. Again, no issues. The state record was 425. So told them I wanted 425 plus the chips on the third. I think what put me at 426. I came up fast and strong. No issues. Due to breaking a state record, I got a fourth lift. I went to 430 for the next.

I came up strong, but right before lockout I felt the blood run from my brain. I set the weight down and nearly fell down before passing out. I’m still kicking myself, because I was so close.

In the end I also set the state record for push / pull.

My two friends also got state records.

It was a lot of fun, but I’m still hungry, because I could have done better. That’s part of the deal with this sport. You can always do better. There is more to be done.

We’re heading to Arizona this week to visit our son, because he is getting sworn into the Arizona bar. I’m taking the week off from training to rehab my various injuries. My elbow feels fine, but my left knee is pretty swollen. Not to mention my back and right shoulder.

Next week is game on again.
