Old Guy Doing 5/3/1

I miss-typed that, not sure where that came from. 1 scoop = 1 oz. or 30g which I have measured out. I’m using an old protein powder scoop. Yeah, 100g would make the shake hard to drink, it would basically be drinking oatmeal.

I understand now. And it’s hard to tell how many grams it is because the protein powder is a different consistency than the oatmeal. Leave it to a guy who weighs his oatmeal portions to spot that. I am very aware how much oatmeal weighs

Yeah, one of the first things I did when I got my kitchen scale was to weigh how much my oatmeal scoop delivered. My ‘light’ breakfast shake, where I cut to half milk/half water and remove the egg, is 430 calories. My ‘heavy’ shake, which I only do on training days, is 577 calories.

Whoa!!! I think you’re going to beat me to 180. I’ve got a lot of time on my side. Not giving up yet though!

Like you say, there’s plenty of time, and I will continue to have days where I eat things like bacon jalapeno cheeseburgers or lamb chops, and fried okra or fried pickles. :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re killing it.

When you can still enjoy food, and still lose weight, you’re doing it right. It’s sad that most people dont understand that diets CAN be flexible as long as you keep cals under your maintenance. I’ve been enjoying a cheat or two per week, and some larger portions when I’m hungry. On the flip sides I’ll throw in 24-36 hour carb depletions, which also happen to be big cal restriction days which create some extreme adaptation. All of this plus my daily 40+ min brisk walks and workouts seem to be a winning combo.

Very similar to what you’re doing. We should have clients. :stuck_out_tongue:

steak yummy!!!

Yeah train what you can and let the injury heal. You’ll be back at full throttle in no time man! Injuries are the worst

Gotta fess up here my 1 cup of oats is a heaping cup so probably 1.25

None of it matters as long as you track consistently and make changes accordingly.

I have found that it’s easier to use the scale and grams to measure most foods. Take salad dressing for example - I’m not getting out a dang Tablespoon to measure that. Most labels give me the equivalent in grams so I just put the plate/bowl on the scale, hit zero, and add my dressing.

The oatmeal serving size is 3/4 of a cup or 40 grams. I just use grams and pour into the bowl. I get less things dirty that way.

Oil is verrry slightly lighter than water, but for all intents and purposes 1 oz. of a liquid used as food is going to be about 30 grams, and any error will be on the conservative side for purposes of keeping within your macros.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there were geographical component to food tolerance (like where your early ancestors were from, not where you’re from now). Early human migration out of Africa started around 2 million years ago, so that would be enough time (evolutionarily speaking) for differences to develop based on food choice (based on what was available in that area). I haven’t researched this, so I’m talking out of my ass, but if I end up figuring out the answer after doing a little digging, I’ll definitely post it

There have been studies on it, and I’ve read a couple of articles, but I’m not sure how scientifically stringent the studies were or really what the conclusions were. Some articles only have a passing relationship with the studies they profess to report on, but they were interesting enough to make me think, at least. It’s been a while…

Yea I find it pretty hard to get good sources when I don’t know about a subject. When I already know, I can search for them, but searching for good info on the Internet is like traipsing through a wretched hive of scum and villainy

Hahah glad someone caught it

I’ve already seen mention of eating according to your genetic profile. The fad diet schemers are working on the next miracle for people who don’t want to eat responsibly and exercise.

We’re all obviously a little different. The reason why may never be answered fully. Maybe I like high carb because I’m an American and that’s what we eat here. I’ve become quite accustomed to it and trying to change that doesn’t work well for me. I feel good and my performance is good so there’s no need to change it just for the sake of changing it.

I agree completely, but I also enjoy overanalyzing things to death. It’s not going to change the way I eat, I just like trying to understand the mechanisms behind why things work the way they do, and mostly failing… What you’re doing totally works for you, and we’re pretty comparable in our cheat meals, although I think you’re a little more faithful to your core diet goals than I am.

@muskratlifts I caught the reference, I’m also a huge nerd, but hog beat me to the comment.

4/7/19 conditioning work

So, gave all 3 dogs a bath today since it was nice this afternoon, t hen took a mile walk/run with them, letting them run around the park and play a little.

Then, did a bunch of shouldering and carrying logs 150 ft from where I had felled and cut up a tree in the back yard and let it sit for the winter, to the burn pile. I’m estimating the logs weighted between 50-100 lbs each. The last 2 were smaller so I picked them up together and carried them sandbag carry style. My left shoulder remains fine with lifting as long as I’m not pushing in the horizontal plane, and it was fine carrying a hundred lb log on it. Here’s the final pile, with my 100 lb dog as reference. Even though he watched me make the pile, he was still convinced there had to be a critter in it once it was done. Some of the logs definitely weighed more than the dog, so I may be lowballing their weight a little.
