well by all I meant someone who trains at their peak. obviously not all who start when they are 40 can do that.
50 sound a bit low to me. I’m only 5kg away from 50% in the snatch and the real training I’ve done is about 6 months only.
Yep but he’s very good at it. I’m talking more about the skinny looking high-schooler power cleaning way more than I can clean with horrible technique. But then I remember that a couple years from now I’ll be doing a lot more than him so its all good
Koing, I did flat-footed snatch pulls just because I saw some Polish lifters do it and I wanted to screw around with it. Yesterday’s lifting was really just getting my lower back used to the weights again, so I didn’t want to do heavier snatch pulls. Instead I opted for flat-footed snatch pulls so I can keep the weight a bit lighter.
Well maybe you need more girls about and not guys?

Haha! That would be great actually. Then we could get competitive about things.
The comp is in a couple of weeks. Very nervous lol. I told a few friends (all guys) and they don’t know anything about weightlifting but they’re all excited and reading stuff on the internet and telling me what I need to do My boss wouldn’t let me eat some cake because I need to make weight, he said And they’re pushing creatine on me lol

I was looking at those but I think it’ll take too long to ship. I emailed a local powerlifter and asked him if he knew where I could get one.

edit: btw wow he front squats as much as i do![/quote]
75% seems f0cking high…thats 145/180 for 94kg lifter…I REALLY doubt that anyone could be expected to do that. I’d be my testicles that some people if they trained for the REST OF THEIR LIFE will NEVER do those numbers. 180 is only 8kg off 2x bw C&J…you got to work your ass off and have solid genetics to do that imo…it’s no joke.
Yes he’s f0cking strong. He doesn’t even squat that heavy and he does loads of reps but he’s 16 and he’s starting to get strong now. It’ll be interesting to see what he gets by the end of the year. 140? 145? 150?

Don’t be nervous. You’ll love the comp! They are awesome! I love the feeling of when I pick up the bar for the first time in the warm up area and it feels UBER LIGHT The tapering which means I go easier on the Mon and the Wed sessions.
Well I mean they can reach them if they end up training like the guys at cal strength who have pretty much almost everything right except they don’t use steroids. I don’t know maybe I’m wrong. Doesn’t matter either way!
i know what thats like
today three things happened
1st
did jerks again
did 2 singles with 100, 1 with 105
tried 110, kinda buried me. I’m like… wtf never happened before this way. I caught it pretty low and it just buried me(not because it was too heavy, rather because I wasn’t tight enough)
So I thought, that’s good, I learnt today to go at least a bit more low than usual. So I went for 112.5 for a PR which pumped me up way more than equaling the 110 PR
1st try was a miss, needed to get slightly lower or push the bar slightly higher
2nd try miss, got it at the right position but wasn’t tight enough
3rd try made it! I finally know why the hell the coaches shout “squeeze” when they get under the jerk. 2.5kgs PR and I improved my technique slightly. good times.
2nd I went to take some x-rays but for some reason they’ll give them to me tomorrow. go figure…
3rd I went to another orthopedician. He told me that he doesn’t see any imbalance and rather that its the quadricep tendon that’s hurt. That sounds like right to me as well. so starting tomorrow, 3x times per week 30 minutes swimming, more stretching, ice and physiotherapy 50 minutes at every appointment. Hopefully I can do them everyday. I’ll have the x-rays tomorrow too so I can ask the 1st doc if he was right about the knee being off to the right. Coach also foam rolled my leg again and it was nice. He says a couple more times and it should be fine and loose.
they might be getting a radiology report done on the x-rays (description of any visible abnormality).
if it isn’t the joint or ligaments around the joint… then either quad tendon or patella tendon, yup.
hopefully no visible tear or anything… if there is a kneecap pulling or tracking issue then i think it would be due to an imbalance in the joint ligaments (if your bones are normal shaped, anyway).
once you have a better idea of what is wrong it might be worth asking about rehab exercises over on the injury forum. there are some people on this site who are really knowledgeable about recovering from injury and the more specific demands of weight training. i’ve received a lot of help from over there, anyway.
debra - i reckon the comp will be fun! at least the people who are there will be into oly lifting rather than your trying to oly lift around a bunch of people who have no idea what you are up to… and i think people will be pretty supportive, too. you might find someone who is close for coaching i’ve heard different things on this… but some people reckon to aim for 6 good lifts on your first comp. so aim lower or maybe last attempt equal your training PB or something like that. i found i didn’t match my training PB in the club comp. and much of the setting was familiar to me since i train there. you will probably have a woman’s bar to deal with (it feels quite a lot different from a guys bar and it bounces more which might feel weird) plus a whole bunch of strangers around etc.
can you get a friend to go with you? feed you gatorade or creatine or something?? maybe take some vids?

I still think it’s well unrealistic for everyone to hit 75%. The guys are cal strength train a sh!t tonne and most don’t work a 50hr job and get a lot of sleep in. A part from full time athletes you don’t sleep a lot when your out of Uni.
The average person has NO ATHLETICAL SKILLS WHAT SO EVER. Apprently only about 10% of gym guys can BP bodyweight…and how many guys do you ever see actually squat bodyweight that goes anywhere near parallel? The BP must be the most used exercise in the gym also.
Trained athletes, yeah thats different but still. There is literally only about 5-7 people in the USA that can do 145/180+ as a 94kg lifter, only about 1 or 2 at a push for UK athletes…and these are the best athletes the 2 countries have to offer!
Well today I got the xrays. The first doctor still thinks its my right knee is a bit off.
I went for a physio today as well and to the 2nd doctor. Showed the xrays to both of them and neither of them could see any imbalanced. I couldn’t either and I kept looking at them for like 5 minutes. Of course I’m not a doctor…
So I did the first physiotherapy. Some electric things at first to make the area numb/not feel pain. Then some gel stuff which made it kind of warm. Then a laser. then some cream with which he massaged it all and finally some ice.
6/7/11 - Disappointing day today. Had this whole Olympic lifting workout planned and then my shin started acting up. Going to see what the chiro can do about it on Friday while he checks my lower back out too. I’m not too worried about it though, I’ve just been stretching the tibialis anterior/gastroc/soleus a lot, and doing soft tissue work on it.
Cleans - worked up to 185 lbs for 3 reps, had to stop. Too much pain on my tibia.
At this point, I just thought of what I could do without any knee bend.
Behind the neck press - work up to 4 moderately heavy reps - 135 lbs; 3 x 4 reps - 115 lbs
Chin-ups - 4 x 6-8 reps @ bodyweight. This is the gun show (for me, haha)

I had 3months last year where I couldn’t do squats or any OLifts, it was savage…what did I do? I got 17inch guns instead! It was boring a lot of the time but I went in to the gym with my buddy and smashed it up on the arms, hammering the wide grip pull ups and skull crushers. I gave up on bicep curls most sessions as it was too much of a chore. But the skull crushers was a laugh and the wide grip pull ups I’ve always loved. Result, 17guns after a pump lol.

Was Gassed at the end of this workout/these workouts. The multiple sessions and high volume are starting to take their toll. Getting shakes first thing in the morning and my knees are starting to ache. Going to do something about this but not sure what? Thinking maybe Rehbands might help me along abit, with the knees. I’ve always been fairly anti ergogenic training aids though…? I think the shakes are from my nervous system adapting to multiple workouts
Entered the Empire Open in bristol on the 9th of July, got me some jerk deamons to banish!
6/8/11 - Used the compression calf sleeve today. It worked a little, but still had some pain. Had to change up my workout a bit.
Snatch balance - 2 moderate reps - 225 lbs; 90% x 2 x 2 - 205 lbs
Snatch push press - 3 x 3 @ easy weight - 185 lbs (didn’t want to go heavy because the knee bend hurts my tibia)
Pendlay row - 3 x 3 @ moderate weight - 185 lbs
4a) KB Windmills (anti-lateral flexion for core) - 3 x 8/side
4b) Backward sled drags - 5 x 30m
*** To spend less time in the gym, I am going to stop foam rolling before lifting. I’m just gonna do my mobility stuff, and then do my foam roller stuff at night before sleep. I stretch at night anyways, so might as well do some soft tissue work before-hand.

Battered, last rep with 145 was ssssllooowww. All in all not bad, got a rest week next week so after sunday I’m only going to train wed/sun. Give me a bit of a rest and to spend a bit more time with Mrs Ache. Pretty happy with training at the moment.
