He’s at the Eleiko Academy in San Franciso.

I’ll be out there with GqArtGuy  booyah!

Koing
Awesome! I hope you get lots of video!
If Koing has time to take video, then hes not lifting heavy enough.

lol! That’s what tripods are for!

I wonder if I could get some feedback on these snatches? I’ve added I think 15lbs to them since I last posted a snatch video here and I’ve been trying to break the habit of using my arms. These are my current max 85 lbs /38.5 kg.

Also a question: is speed something that comes over time or should I actively being working to get faster under the bar?

That is definitely way too light.

I’m not too experienced with oly lifts yet but you should be working on your speed before snatching because you definitely could do more weight.

Just practice with the bar. start in the dead lift and explode up and get under the bar quicker by getting in the overhead squat sooner.

got shitty sleep last night, I felt restless and my heart rate was up. Woke up today after 8 hours and felt like I could sleep for 4 more, but even if I tried I wouldn’t have been able to go back to sleep. Today at the gym… throughout the session I just saw a dark cloudiness around the room. I guess I’m lifting appropriately. This is what John Broz calls the ‘dark times’, no? :stuck_out_tongue:

Snatch - heavy double - worked up to 105, got first, missed 2nd; 90% of that x 2 more sets - 95kg

Power clean + power jerk - 70% x 3 x 5 - 95kg, wow this was hard… very fatigued

Overhead squat - heavy single - 100kg… somehow, this felt heavy, lol. my wrists were getting annoying.

Speed comes mainly over time IMO. Right now you should just be focusing on technique.

Looking better and better with each video deb. Think you need to stay on your heels longer and start raising the torso to vertical earlier. Thats basically the two things i think to myself every time i snatch! To feel the pressure on my heels at all times throughout the lift and to raise the torso after the bar passes the knees(although some disagree with this, it works for me. at least right now) These might be the reasons why the bar is being thrown forward.

I have never heard of ‘dark times’ until your post (I just googled it.) Interesting… Seems like a good way to get you to suck it up and push through.

I do find all this lifting really messes with my sleep, getting night sweats occasionally and wake up in the middle of the night with my legs throbbing like they used to when I was in gymnastics as a kid.

Is 105 your PB?

I agree! It needs to be about 40kg heavier! =D

I’m super fast with just the bar or light weight. I get slow with heavier weight but I guess that’s normal.

Thanks lordstorm! I will think about that next time I snatch. I already think about heels but I think I tend to forget everything when I’m adding weight lol.

110 is. shooting for a PB this Saturday. lifting with this guy this weekend:

Smolov Jr

Back Squat 10x3x300 lbs (136 kg)

Haven’t posted in a few days. Cell phone broke so I had to go back to one of my old ones and the camera kinda sucks. Anyway hit some pretty good lifts today.

4/23/11

Power snatch: 30kg x3, 50x3, 55x2, 60x2, 65x2, 70x2, 75x1, 80x1, 85x0x0x0x1, 72.5x2, 75x2/3 (ran out of space on my phone before I could get the 3rd attempt in, wasn’t exactly planning on missing the 2nd lol).

Power C+J: 65x2/1 (2 cleans, 1 jerk), 75x2/1, 85x2/1, 90x2/1, 95x1, 100x1x1x1, 91x2/1, 91x2/1, 91x1 clean, 2 jerks.

Managed to hit an 85kg power snatch, caught it pretty high too. That’s only 5 kg below my best full snatch ha. Wasn’t very happy with 100kg cleans. I wasn’t able to pull them as high as I would’ve liked. Not a bad day though.

reached 70kgs overhead.
127.5kg front squat.

I can do more in the front squat, problem is i get so dizzy after every attempt over roughly 100kgs. I don’t even know what I’m doing wrong but I’m almost ready to pass out every time. which sucks.

Do you think it could be a breathing thing?

im not sure. I try to take a deep breath in before i start the lift. Then i try to exhale… practically have to force it out sometimes. I think the bar is sitting somewhere and pressing against… something and it doesn’t let me breathe properly. or something else entirely idk!

i don’t have the same problem with back squats and i’ve done 150 and could probably do like 155-160. No problem breathing there or almost passing out!

kinda hoping someone has had the same problem and can help me out

You want to try and avoid having the bar put pressure on your carotid artery:

Can you maybe tweak things a little to have it balanced more on your delts rather than pressing into your neck?

Shane wasn’t there, had some other obligation, too bad, but there were other talented lifters.

as for me, not a day for PRs. I worked up to about 90kg snatch and my wrist was starting to hurt for some reason, so I just did 90kg for 4-5 singles. Then did clean + front squat + jerk, worked up to 120kg for a couple sets. gotta start icing.

4/25/11

Snatch:
65 x 3
95 x 3
135 x 2
155 x 1
165 x 0, 1
175 x 0, 1, 0, 1 smoothest snatch I’ve ever had in my short time doing the lifts
185 x 0, 0 this felt about 50 pounds heavier than 175, just tired I guess

Clean and Jerk:
155 x 3
165 x 2
175 x 1
185 x 1, 1, 1
Did power jerks today. Seem to be much easier on my shoulders for whatever reason.

Deadlift:
315 x 2
345 x 1
315 x 3

Stretching

Light Day except the squatting volume. Last week of Smolov Jr

Back Squat: (6x6x255)
-135x4
-185x3
-225x3
-255x6,6,6,6,6,6

30 minutes rest till SPH opened

Snatch (70%):
-50x2,2,2
-60 x 2,2,2
-65 x 1,1,m,1 (miss was a strap messup, getting used to the new ironmind ones)

Clean and Jerk (70%):
-65 x 2
-75 x 1,1
-85 x 1,1,1

Situps:
-25# behind head x 10
-35 behind head x10, 10

Foam rolling for the left shoulder blade, I did something weird and painful to it

4/25/11

Snatch pulls - 108% x 2 x 3 - 265 lbs

Back squat - 90% x 2 x 2 - 345 lbs

Push press - 4 x 4 - 195 lbs

SLDL - 55% (of BS) x 5 x 3 - 210 lbs

Weighted abs - 3 x 10 - +45 lbs… my abs/core are getting much stronger. I’ve noticed more and more how important strong abs are for Olympic lifting.
