Best Wishes my friend - onward and upward!

Things have been hectic but still am training. Abadjiev changed my routine around now that I 1) accomplished a technique element he wanted me to do, and 2) that Ive accumulated enough squat strength and volume for now. So last week was the same as my usual, though I did hit 190 a few times. Now the last 3 days of training:

Wed:

Sn: 50x3, 70x3, 90x3x1, 100/M,M,M,M,M,1, 105, 108, 100x2/2
Rest 10m
CJ: 50, 70, 90, 110, 120, 125, 130, 120x2x2 (clean only on the doubles)
Rest 10m
Sn: 50, 70, 90, 100, 105, 108, 100x2/2
Rest 10m
CJ: 50, 70, 90, 110, 120, 125, 130, 120x2x2 (clean only on the doubles)
FS: 140, 150, 160 (didnt finish these)

First day trying out this new setup. My hip was hurting so I went light on the FS and bailed on them. I missed 100 a bunch due to technique, in fact thats why my numbers and jumps were a little lower than usual. My first round of cleans sucked in terms of form but they came back in the second round.

Thurs
Sn: 50/3, 70, 90, 100/1, 105/M,M,M,1, 110, 113, 103x2/2
Rest 10m
CJ: 50, 70, 90, 110, 120, 125, 130, 120x2x2 (clean only on the doubles)
Rest 10m
Sn: 50, 70, 90, 100, 105, 110, 113, 115, 105x2/2
Rest 10m
CJ: 50, 70, 90, 110, 120, 125, 130, 135, 125x2/2
FS: 140, 150, 160, 170/1,M

En fuego on the 2nd round of lifting. I had to modify my squat stance a bit to accommodate my hip. Worked on the first rep of 170, failed to do it on the 2nd try.

Today (Friday)

Sn: 50x3, 70, 90, 100, 105, 110, 113/M,M,1, 103x2/2
Rest 10m
CJ: 50, 70, 90, 110, 120, 125, 130, 120x2x2 (clean only on the doubles)
Rest 10m
Sn: 50, 70, 90, 100, 105/M,M,1, 108, 100x2/2
Rest 10m
CJ: 50, 70, 90, 110, 120, 125, 130, 135, 125x2/2
FS: 140, 150, 160, 170/1, 160x2/2

Didnt sleep well last night so I was a little slow today and especially so during my first clean and second snatch session. I picked it up on my 2nd CJ session and was able to finish a whole workout today in terms of squats. Im a little conservative of the weight on the hip but its expected that the squat will go down in this phase or at least be harder. My back, traps, and shoulders feel jakt.

4/8/11

3-pos snatch - heavy - 185 lbs; 90% x 2 more sets - 165 lbs *** the 185 lbs wasn’t heavy, actually, but that is as heavy as I wanted to go. The guy at the gym just cleaned everything (platforms, floors, etc), so everything was kind of slippery… didn’t want to risk an injury. Wiping my shoes with paper towels wasn’t helping any.

Power clean + power jerk - 60% x 3 x 5 - 185 lbs

OHS - heavy single - 225 x 1, 245 x 0… fuck. My squat strength is there, but my upper back kind of failed in stabilizing the weight at the bottom, and I just leaned forward too much and lost it. Too lazy to attempt it again, lol.

5 sets: no rest;
20m Farmers Walk - 70 lbs each hand (heaviest DBs in the gym… terrible right?)
20m Bearcrawl

Good luck!!

Good luck Cloystreng!

225 OHS is ridic Andy. Nice! And i love that you did the bearcrawl after, that happens to be a drill i most loathe - its tough. There’s a reason humans are bipeds!

shit I could OHS 265 if I could stabilize the damn bar… yeah I’m gloating

but on the bearcrawl, when I did it felt sooo slow, lol. I felt like I was doing it wrong.

Competition Results, videos will come when I get them from my friend.

Snatch 75, 80, 85miss
Clean and Jerk 105, 111, 115

5/6 lifts, not bad. I was happy with my lifts. I didn’t wait to finish the pull on the third snatch but its not the end of the the world.

I took 1st for the 85 Novice division!

Also, I met SeafordXC08 who had a nasty clean and jerk with a clean that he fought with for about 15 seconds and managed to get. Missed the jerk, but whatever. Real tough stuff, everyone was cheering and everything. Hopefully he has a video of that, I was like damn.

Good job cloystreng! I`m looking forward to the videos.

What was your total again? The guy speaking didn’t have a microphone.

total was 170 got 70 snatch and 100 c&j. Barely missed the 75 snatch and 105 c&j. Cant complain I only learned the lifts about 3 months ago and i’m happy with the result got 3rd place in 85kg class.

congrats cloy! well done on 5/6!

Sunday Training

Sn: 50, 70, 90, 100, 110, 115, 118, 120/M,M, 110x3/2
CJ: 70, 90, 110, 120, 130, 120x2/2 (clean only)
FS: 140, 150, 160, 170, 155x2/2

I never have enough time to do a full session on Sundays, but Im pretty happy with snatches today. 120 felt doable, just need more practice. I was really happy with the 110 doubles, thats the most Ive ever doubled. My form on cleans wasnt as good on 130 as last week so I didnt go above it to preserve my hip. Nailed the form with the doubles. FS werent anything special, Ive modified my stance slightly to use less hip which is harder but at least is painless.

4/10/11

Warm up, bark work

Cleans: 65x3, 80x2, 90x2, 100x1, 110x0x0x0.

Got here and realized that my clean still sucks. When the weight gets heavy I can’t keep the bar in, I have to jump forward to receive it, and I still lose a bunch because the weights too far out anyway. Got very frustrated and almost quit for the day, but then I decided to drop weight and try to focus on extending my hips. Only my hips. And not letting my damn feet come off the ground to move my body forward. Felt a little weird at first but I started to get used to it and I think I might try to make this new style the way I do all my cleans. It looks a lot smoother, I don’t have to come forward to receive the bar, and I think I’m getting better extension on the 2nd pull. So I ended up doing…

90x1, 90x1, 90x1, 90x1, 90x1, 95x1, 95x1, 100x1, 100x1, 105x1, 105x1, 105x1, 105x1, 95x2, 95x2, 95x1

What do you guys think? The first lift is my old style and all the rest are the new style. Does it look better or worse? Should I stick with this new way? I feel like I’m probably better off now than I was before if I can focus on ingraining this motor pattern. Thanks guys.

Alec

You were the guy that got third? Novice right? So that means that I have a picture of us holding the cups up for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. All of us are T-Nation members.

11/4/11

been gone for 2 weeks for a stupid reason but to make it short… i was sleeping during training hours. yep for 2 weeks. i suck

things felt heavy today as is to be expected. got an 85 snatch which i liked

big problem is that despite doing pretty little to no lifting for over a month now my knee is still as shit as ever. I really don’t know what to do, its not getting any better. In a week ill be training at another club for a couple weeks. I’ll ask that coach’s opinion on it too. If he also says the usual… ice, rest, stretch, foam roll I might try going to a doctor. I do think its tendonitis but it should have gotten better by now but its not. I don’t know… ill figure it out. Worst case ill just be doing snatching, powercleaning and pressing for a while. sucks that I can’t do squats cause i’d really like to now.

Sorry to hear about your knee! I hope you get it figured out.
