Cool vids, Koing. I’m very impressed you can lift upside down :-p

I dunno, Deb. Lots of people say ‘bad because they slow you down and you start to rely on (unhelpful) visual cues’ but I think they have their uses. I like to start out with a mirror to make sure it looks right. Then try and focus my attention on how it FEELS when it looks right. Then get rid of the mirror once I’ve got an idea of how it feels (and then use vid to check).

If you have immediate playback on your vid recorder that would probably be best-est.

looking good deb. I think you need to extend harder though with legs and hips. Finish the pull. Jumping forward 99% of the time means you didn’t finish the pull(or you are rising on to your toes on purpose)

What is the consensus on lifting in front of mirrors? Sometimes the mirror seems to make it easier and other times it seems to mess my timing up.

Anyone who is training to compete shouldn’t be training in front of a mirror (there’s no mirror in competition). For someone who is not necessarily looking to compete and doesn’t have a coach present all the time, I can see how it could be useful sometimes, although I would tend to think that the lifts should be happening too fast for you to be able to divide your attention between doing the lift right and watching the mirror.

snatch not much… I never hit the pelvis that hard yesterday but it really hurt badly today

c&j
2+2x90
2+2x95
1+1x100… tried to double it but I fucked up the pull .

didn’t do much else, I tried squatting but my knee is giving me lots of trouble. I don’t know what ill do with it.

nice deb. i’m trying to figure what you are doing to clear your knees because that isn’t working for me right now :-/

pretty happy right now. been doing snatches again for about a month since my wrist injury healed. started off really light and tried to work on my technique a bit and then gradually started adding weight to the bar. my snatches feel much more powerful and consistent right now and I feel like I’m really extending my hips a lot better on the 2nd pull. anyway, my pr was 80kg, and I had been coming really close to getting 85 this week. even had it locked out overhead and stood it halfway up a couple days ago but lost it. finallyyyy nailed it today on my 2nd attempt at it, and then said fuck it smoked 90 on my first go right after it. now I’m about to go do some clean and jerks.

Snatch:
65 x 3
95 x 2
115 x 2
135 x 2, 2
145 x 1
155 x 1
165 x 3 misses

Squat:
135 x 8
185 x 5
225 x 3, 3
245 x 1, 1
Wow, have these gotten weak. Not sure why I would expect any different since I haven’t squatted in weeks. Time to start hammering them again.

Press:
95 x 8
115 x 3, 3, 3

Stretching

Also played around with cleans using some light weight. Seems my wrist still isn’t ready for them again. Ugh.

Harder! You should see the bruises on my hips! =D Harder it is then. Thanks. I think something has started to click doing it from the hang hopefully I can get that going doing the full lifts tonight.

I don’t know what I’m doing! I don’t think about it. When I first went through the clean progression I slowly moved the bar past them but I never gave it any thought after that.

Maybe going through the clean progression series here could help, the second one might be the most applicable:

the pr’s just keep coming. just nailed a 120 kg clean and jerk. that’s a 5 kg pr. along with a 10 kg pr on the snatch earlier today. I’m pretty excited

Does he lift too?

I’m so envious of you guys that have others to train with.

In advance, the music playing in the background of the videos is loud because it was right next to my stereo indoors (it was snowing outside, so the phone had to sit inside the window sill).

Thursday - Snatch Bar Work, Overhead Squats, Jerks, Max Squat Reps at 85 kg

It was snowing outside today lightly, I was feeling sluggish from two days snowboarding, so I decided to do what I felt like and have some fun.

Snatch Work:

Started with some bar work with straps, hang snatches from high low, and in between. Did some snatch grip deadlifts with 40 kg, some snatches at this weight but it was really ugly. Tried some overhead squats with 40 and 50 kg to try it out, but it was tough because I was pretty cold and it hurt my hands. Got a video of 50 x 5.

Jerks from behind the neck:
-50 x 4 paused squats, 1 jerk
-60 x 3 jerks
-70 x 3
-75 x 3, 3, 3

Got a video of some of the jerks, they didn’t look bad in my opinion. Worked up to about 65% of my max clean and jerk, kept it light.

Paused squats:
-75 x 5
-90 x 4

Max reps Squat Set - Bodyweight on the Bar:

Been wanted to try one of those widowmaker 20 rep squat sets to see what its like. Granted, high reps isn’t usually my thing, and I have been doing, for the greater part of the past 3-5 months, 3 reps. Never more than 5 reps. Wanted to see how many I could get with my own bodyweight, 85 kg on the bar, before my form deteriorated. Could have done more but my form was getting sloppy, my back was rounding, and it was started to snow big flakes in my face. Of course, right after the set when I went inside to do my ankle rehab the sun came out and the snow stopped.
-85 x 21

Ankle rehab:
-ankle wall stretch, prone ankle stretches, ankle breaks, and calf stretch for 30

Todays Session Thursday

FS: 70 120 150 170
Rest 20min
Sn: 50x3/1, 70, 90, 100, 105, 110, 113/m, m, m, m, m, 1
FS: 130, 150, 170
Rest 20 min
CJ: 50, 70, 90, 110, 130/m,m,m,1, 135, 140
FS: 140, 160, 170

Deloading off squats today (or at least every other day for the week) and only going to 90%. Makes my squat sessions go by much faster. On snatches 113 got better with each attempt and it was just fine tuning the lift until I made it. I tried knee wraps today for the first time with the help of my PL colleague. They were interesting but really made my calves ball up hard. Ill have to play with the wrap if I want to use them. I only used them in my 2nd squat session.

The CJ was ok, it was harder though because my calves were tight, in fact my foot position was off at 130 which is why I was missing the lift. Once I got my feet in the right spot, despite the tightness, I made my lifts easily. Finished off with some raw squats.

Comp in two days.

Hit 98kg and 116kg. 1kg over both my openers. Git sum.

Nice! Congratulations!

shitty training today, I got dizzy and I still am. Have no idea why.

Knees are still giving me trouble, although they feel slightly better. Gonna keep icing them 6 times a day or something

In Richmond? I was going to go to watch but I couldn’t get down there this weekend. I hope you post your lifts. I wish the flight wasn’t so expensive.

My shoes just arrived and I think they’re too small. How snug should they be around the toes?

Lordstorm, that sucks! I hope you figure that out. Maybe you have bug? That might make your joints vulnerable too.

I need to get an antivirus!

I was sick the previous week. idk whatever ill probably be fine tomorrow.

I expect you to pop a national total this weekend, bud. It’s about time. I’ll be seeing you there this weekend.
