Why? Honestly, I would sympathize more if it was a racial slur… If what Globo TV said is true, his reaction is completely and utterly inexcusable.

That’s a pretty generic and common insult in Southern Europe, and most Southern Europeans use them randomly without any real meaning behind it.

Zidane grew up in Marseille, so I’m pretty sure he also got that comment millions of times before. I’d understand it a little better if he was completely unfamiliar with the culture – I can perfectly understand that a German finds it VERY offensive, but, c’mon, the guy is 34 and has been living surrounded by Southern Europeans his whole life. He should know better.

This whole thing makes no sense.

I am so sick of your political correctness. How do you get anywhere walking on eggshells?

I can’t seem to shake the label, can I?

I hope everyone realizes that by insulting everyone, it can only be in jest. He who laughs at others, laughs often.

I’d better reply to that.
You seem to be some nitpicking fellow. I don’t say that Zidane’s red card was unfair. It’s pretty meaningless if he got provoked or not, the red card is perfectly appropriate.
BUT. It’s just I understand it better now. IF it’s true.

[quote]Schwarzfahrer wrote:

You have made my day.

There’s no better compliment than a German telling me I nitpick.

Seriously. I mean that in the nicest possible way. I could set my watch by the arrival time of the trains and buses over there, and I learnt stuff about filling forms EXACTLY LIKE THEY SHOULD BE FILLED that I could not have learnt anywhere else.

Just the other day, I had the Sales Agent that sold us our new home commend how perfectly I filled in all the forms AND the fact that I brought ALL the required documentation, perfectly organized; she said that nobody before me, in her 20 years selling homes, had filled in the forms so perfectly. I think she actually had a little orgasm as she went through everything.

I immediately pointed out that she could thank Germans for having taught me that.

So, on her behalf, thank you!

Actually, you missed a few groups. Apparently, you have to listen to Ann Coulter some more… For example, you missed her very favorite: “Raghead”. You should be ashamed of yourself!

Hspder, you don’t always have to have the last word. Don’t let this sport thread degrade into some pointless discussion.
Just contribute something to the thread, like, some football hottie?

Funny how no one mentions France couldn’t score on Italy except for a non-existent bullshit penalty on Materazzi…but wait, the italians won by diving, right?

I think I stated in a couple of posts on the game that the heros for Italy on that night were Gigi Buffon, Cannavaro and the rest of the Italian back line.

But that still does not obscure the fact that France dominated the midfield kept the ball in the Italian side of the pitch for most of the night and played with more offensive initiative for pretty much the entire second half onward. Again, the Italians did what the did best, withstand the assault, make the other team get tired (Ribery and Henry had to leave the game due to exhaustion and cramping, respectively) and then strike with a devastating counterattack toward the end of the game. Catenaccio at its finest.

Pretty much what they did to Germany in the semis - although in that game they showed much more offensive spark throughout.

Kudos to the Italians - it may not have been pretty to watch, but they did what they had to do to win - which in the end is all that matters.

That is such fucking bullshit. A guy calls your sister a whore only once, of course you want to crack his skull, regardless of who is watching.

You seem to be such an expert on Europeans, foul language, mortgage applications but what the fuck do you know about soccer? This is a soccer thread. Am I the only one finds your posts absolute crap?

Here is some more info for you, I am sure you will enjoy

Here is Zizou the new street fighter

and here is the new Zizou video game. Try to see how many Materazzi’s you can knock down
http://tonaz.altervista.org/zidane.html

Anyone has any thoughts on Zizou still winning the golden ball? Should his red card display prevented him from getting the MVP recognition.

Hspder - this is your queue to start talking about the political ramifications of this in France society and its impact on children and teenagers in the south eastern Europeans slums.

Look, it’s obvious the Italians are an excellent team. But as international soccer teams are nowadays all very good, esp. on the defense, victory is often a close thing.
You can disrupt a teams “flow” very easily by diving and playing dirty all the time. Watch the second half against Germany. Just as we gained momentum, the referee had to interrupt every two minutes. This IS an effective tactic, but questionable nontheless.

Take a look at the statistics which show up these days in practically every newspaper. Italy is the undisputed king of diving and cheating. And do I have to remind you of the scandal which shook the whole italian league?
They just don’t play clean. They certainly don’t want to . It’s their style but most people don’t want a champion who embodies those “qualities”.

So the question remains if Italy would have won the cup if they’d have decided to play clean or perhaps if the referee’s eyes would just have been sharper…

Perhaps Italians aren’t so bad after all?

Well, you might have absolutely no sense of humor, but you clearly rule the soccer hottie department.

I’ll shut up now, I promise.

I am not surprised at all that YOU feel that way… And I do not mean that as a provocation or an insult to you. I would expect nothing less, and I wouldn’t blame you at all if YOU were in that position in some unimportant game, as I wouldn’t blame any inexperienced German, or Dutch, or even English player in some unimportant game.

But not Zidane. Not in a WC Final. He’s way too old, there was way too much at stake, and has way too much experience and has been around these guys way too long. He should know better, and, coming from him, it is inexcusable.

I’m pretty sure you agree with that at least.

[quote]Amsterdam Animal wrote:

I’m split on that. On one hand, it is pretty stupid to give him that recognition the day after he gets expelled in that shameful display, but, on the other, he had a huge part in getting France to the final and it might serve as much needed damage control. It might also backfire… Only time will tell.

That’s almost a straight quote for a couple of newspaper articles I read today, which means you have read them too, so I’ll let you post the links instead if you want to… They summarize it pretty well. If somebody wants to discuss that in greater depth, they can always open up a thread in the appropriate forum…

It’s official,there is no God!

How can anybody believe that we live in a fundamentally just Universe when the Italians win?And you have to say if there is a God then the Universe has to be fundamentally just, because there is no way a benign deity would allow an unjust Universe.

My arguement goes like this:-

a)The Eyeties are cheating bastards.

b)Their domestic football is rotten and many of those players are involved in this win.

c)Grosso scores the winner and he’s the guy who conned the ref with that outrageous dive against Australia and should have beeen banned for life.

d)Eyeties are cynical,cheating bastards.

No deity with even a shred of conscience(or omniscience)could possibly let those bastards win.I was 99% atheist before this,I’m genuinely 100% now.

God is punishing the French for not going into Iraq with us, in our fight for justice. The Italians went in with us, though, in all fairness, the Brits or Aussies should have won — they sent more troops.

Hahahahahahahaha - Fight for justice? Oh my God, you are one funny fuck HH!

Forza Italia!

And to the French, good game, but at the end it was:

Liberte,
Egalite,
Inculate!

CAMPIONI DEL MONDO!!

Dahum I must be smart then b/c I pulled that shit out of the air.

As far as Zizou getting the golden ball. I see where you are coming from but I cant help but think that the sentimental retirement plans that were hyped up during the entire wc played a big part in the minds of the voters.

Yes, he had a big part in taking France this far which makes his action even more moronic regardless of whether we agree or understand why he did it. I am sure the French players were not happy to see their leader leave the game at such a crucial point. Would it have made a difference during the PK shootout? I doubt it but we will never know.

But when a leader of a team abondons and fucks his team over like he did, that kinda behavior does not spell out MVP for me. As much as I did not care for the Italian style of soccer, they must have had someone just as deserving on their side that did not lose his head (no pun intended).
