His game was always about pace and he’d already lost a fair amount of that after his setbacks a couple of years ago. Then last year’s injury plus this new one which people are saying will keep him out for 5 months…
He still has a lovely finish when he’s sharp but he’s tiny, he’s fragile, his pace has gone - Oh, and he does embarrassing adverts for Asda.
Time for Defoe, Beattie, Bent etc to step up to the plate.

It’s because he and two other players in the Croatian squad spent a few years training at Australian taxpayers’ expense at the Australian Institute of Sport when they were developing players. That call on Oneywu (especially in the 47th minute for the love of God) was dreadful. What was the ref even looking at? He had his hands down, there was some body contact and he made a clean play on the ball! And all of the Ghana players writhing around in “agony” to kill time towards the end of the game was incredibly lame - play and win your game, don’t be cheap about it.
But in the end, this one is all on the U.S. team and Bruce Arena, not the refs and not Ghana (who obviously played very well). Landon Donovan and Demarcus Beasley - Non-factors and utterly uninspired. And what exactly was Bruce Arena waiting for to putting in Eddie Johnson or put some more offensive pressure on??? WE WERE DOWN 2-1 AND NEEDED TO WIN! Can some please explain this logic to me???
Well, I’m off to find another team to root for the rest of the way through. Likely will be England.

johnson didnt do anything when he come on. for some reason no one wanted to even attempt playing a through ball and instead they kept trying to opt for crosses from the far corners which is fine except none of the crosses were even close to our target
donovan was anonymous. beasley played better and at least was trying his ass off. mcbride didnt do much other than that header which missed the post…
