Harry Kewell is in trouble for giving the ref a blast after the game had finished. Let’s hope they just fine him instead of suspension, we need him against Croatia. It didn’t look good though, yelling in the ref’s face for a full 20 seconds telling him what a shocking game he had is not a good way of endearing yourself to the officials!

EVERY team needs a team member who can’t play soccer for crap, but comes on at the end of the game and kicks the ref in the nuts.

For that matter, they can come out on the lineup and nut the other teams’ star players.

OR at least, when a player is faking injury during the match, they race out and “get our moneys’ worth”, once again, you guessed it, a swift kick in the nuts.

Kewell was stupid doing that. It just shows how young we are at the politics of the game. YOU DON’T DO THAT. You don’t complain in the game, you don’t hit people etc… and you push the offside position so you have someone ready to strike. You push the boundaries of the rules, at that level.

Maybe Harry has picked up “whingeing Pommy disease” since he’s played in England since he was 16…

(Note to all our English friends on this thread, just having a bit of a dig at you, you wouldn’t expect anything less from an Aussie would you?)

This of course will be matched by us Aussies being infected with “jump on the winner’s bandwagon” disease if Harry goes and scores some unbelievable goal against Croatia and we forgive him for being stupid. This is of course, if FIFA let him play for being infected with “whingeing Pommy disease”! (j/k)

I think the whole whinging pommie thing is what you Australians made up to make yourself feel better about your history.
Im more aware of a moaning aussie disease to be honest. All except steve irwin. He seems a happy bloke.

I love the aussies. It’s a fierce rivalry sprinkled with humour, fair play and good sportsmanship.

Still think you’re a bunch of arrogant wankers though ;-)
No, I don’t think we are moaning about our history, I think you guys whinge about the fact that you got left behind and didn’t get out of gloomy old England like all us convicts did when we were sent to sunny Australia! Bad weather has been known to cause depression you know

Steve Irwin does not know how to frown, that’s a fact!

Yes, the rivalry is fun, we usually enjoy having the “Barmy Army” come out here to liven things up, except when they get to purchase too many Ashes tickets!

At least when England-Australia play the worst that happens is good natured banter between supporters and we can all have a drink after the game and still get along, unlike when you guys play Germany at the World Cup, is this still on the cards despite today’s results? What round will they meet in if they both keep winning?

Although I feel that if by some miracle Australia and England meet up this World Cup then good natured rivalry could be forgotten…

Update on Kewell, he escaped punishment for blasting the ref due to inconsistencies with the reports of the match officials, he’s very lucky!

Apparently the ref told Kewell during their “conversation” that he was gone for a few games for speaking to him like that.

Bring on Croatia!

Side note on the Oz-Croatia game: Aussie captain Mark Viduka will be marked by one of his best mates from school, Joe Simunic, who grew up in Oz but plays for Croatia, along with another two Croatian players who did the same thing. It’s going to be very emotional, although a lot of people over here now have a two way bet and will be happy whatever team goes through!

Too right mate. We should have left you lot here and pissed off to Australia ourselves.

Crazy about Viduka and his pal. Any bets on whether his buddy will take him out of the game with a 2 footed studs up tackle?

Of course there will still be friendly rivalry if England meet Oz. We’re like that with every team we thrash!

Based on how the refs have performed in our two games so far, if this happened it would probably end up with Viduka getting penalised! Seemed like every bloody time an Aussie made a tackle against Brazil we would get penalised, whether it was good or a foul.

Who would we be playing once we’ve crushed Ecuador?

The winners of which other 2nd group or is it another draw then?
Looks like its going to be Holland or Mexico or portugal (winner of group D vs Runner up of group C) then plays us, my prediction is that we will face Portugal in he next round.

Just woke up from my coma I fell into after coming back from the stadium last night.

To be honest, I don?t even care if the game was not that great. The atmosphere was fucking amazing!!! Made a lot of new friends in the English fan block I found myself in, of course dressed in a German jersey! And besides some chanting about German bombers and the Royal Airforce shooting them down  they were an awesome crowd to watch football with. No matter were you are from, they change your name into Crouch if you are taller than 6`5.

So again, hope to see you English guys in the final to show the world what European football is all about.

Cool. Sounds great. I’m insanely jealous.

Ahh… The old ‘there were 5 German bombers in the air’ song. For some reason I didn’t think they’d be doing that shit in Germany!

Bloody Portugal. Still at least this time Phil Neville won’t come on and fuck it for us against them for a record third time in a row.

Actually I’d rather have them than the other two.

BTW

I bet Newcastle are well chuffed re Owen.

?17m well spent for about 6 games of one season and it looks like about 6 of this coming one. And then he’ll go back to Liverpool for ?3m. After that many injuries he’s got to be finished as a ‘world class’ striker and cert for England hasn’t he?

His game was always about pace and he’d already lost a fair amount of that after his setbacks a couple of years ago. Then last year’s injury plus this new one which people are saying will keep him out for 5 months…

He still has a lovely finish when he’s sharp but he’s tiny, he’s fragile, his pace has gone - Oh, and he does embarrassing adverts for Asda.

Time for Defoe, Beattie, Bent etc to step up to the plate.

PS - After last night anyone that tells me Crouch should be an England international needs their head examined. Except one moment when to my astonishment and joy he actually went past someone, he brought nothing to the game.

He’s a nice lad, still very young and so has plenty of time to improve but it’s not like he’s a bundle of raw untapped talent is it?

What game were you watching exactly? I thought it was pretty boring again.

It was hard fought and got very interesting at the end. It was a very entertaining match - at least by my standards. But then again, I like to watch the tactical chess match type games as well as goal-fests.

Of course, you are free to disagree.

All good points, but the keeper still looked out of position to me. It seems obvious he was anticipating one of the defenders getting to the ball, but when they didn’t he was quite literally caught with his pants down. My argument is that a keeper at that level has to be ready for most any eventuality - one of which has to be coverage for the defender directly in front of him. On that point, I have to give the keeper some of the blame. It was just a freaky play. Happens sometimes.

Damn straight! All you English boys talking smack about your squad before the tourney started- well, I want to see it too… LOL

Yup. Should be a good match.
It wasn’t as boring as the other games but it wasn’t exactly enthralling. The quality just went to pot in the second half when England stopped passing and moving. Sweden did ok but again, their performance was below their standards and only one excellent goal and a stroke of luck meant they got 2 goals. They had a couple more chances but they were more down to a lack of England marking than anything else. Lampard was pretty poor again, with a lack of playmaking and not the best shooting he is capable of. Only a matter of time though.

A quick word about Joe Cole. As predicted by yours truly, he is playing a huge part in our world cup. I still think he comes inside a bit too much and his shots nearly always get blocked when he does this because they know his game. However, there’s no doubt that he has had a big influence so far, with an excellent goal and a great cross for Gerrard last night. Hopefully he can keep doing it down that left side with ashley cole, while Beckham bangs in the set pieces. Lennon is an excellent option for the right hand side if we need spicing up a bit.

I’m not having that about the keeper. What exactly was he supposed to do? How could he possibly have covered the defenders? If he moved to claim the ball and it took a deflection rather than a complete clearance, he would be in no-mans land. He made the right choice, 3 defenders didn’t. If the defenders did their jobs properly, the keeper would have been in the best possible position to save any follow-up shots. A good friend of mine who is a semi-pro goalkeeper agrees with me on this one, and I have personally played for many years, mainly as a centre half. The defenders were at fault. It actually came on TV a few seconds ago and it only reassured me in my opinion on this one. While he may have looked confused, it was more because of the lack of defending than any indecision.

Another 2 nil to England come Sunday is my prediction. Unfortunately I’m away for 2 weeks now so I won’t be able to eat my words online until I get back for the final

I’m gonna say it was tubby Campbell ball watching and Ashley Cole standing in the middle of the goal rather than at the far post - practically blocking Robinson, that lead to that softest of soft goals.

Aye. England vs Germany would be a blast!

Besides (of course) Germany, I’d bet my money on Argentina or Holland.

Edit: OK, the chicas are probably from Ecuador, but the left is wearing a basecap with our flag. So I guess she’s booty from the 3:0 match and German property now. Suits me just fine…

In case our english TBrethren misspell the words: the hottie has “Ballack” on her tits, not Bollocks.

He’s a bit like Becks, less Finesse but compensates that with power.
Did you see his pass to Klose? That was magnificent!

I remember Viduka playing in the Croatia for few years.

I’d love my bollocks on her tits… Sigh…

Ballack is a great player. Cannot believe both he and Shevchenko have joined Chelsea. It’s almost like cheating!

(very bitter Arsenal fan here)

Also, I don’t understand why no big team has ever come in for Klose. I think he’s quality. That said, they probably will after the World Cup though.

Shevchenko and Ballack!

Wasn’t Chelsae the club owned by some superrich dork?

Yes. And he left for Celtic as a very bitter man.

During his spell in Dinamo he was a constant source of ridicule for his behaviour on and off the pitch (although he deserved some of it).

Skoko played in Croatia for a few years as well. Also failed miserably.

I dunno, from the press conference it seems that the Aussies are holding some kind of grudge against Simunic?
