Correction – there are 13 batter categories and 11 pitcher categories, so the scores should all add up to 24 (assuming both teams don’t foreit all their pitching categories by not attaining the minimum number (7) of innings pitched).

I suppose since there are an even number of categories that we can have ties?

I never considered the possibility of a tie. I should have only used 23 instead of 24.

Hindsight is 20/20.

I’m getting my butt kicked anyhow. When does football season start?

you’re the commish, can’t you change it?

I’ll see if I can, but I was thinking that it was locked in after the beginning of the season.

I though I was losing. But upon further review, it has been determined that I am dyslexic. That, and a very poor typist.

I was right. You can’t change the scoring after the first game starts.

you’re not hitting the liquid “vitamin B” again are you??

I wish I had an excuse.

Wait - I do have an excuse. After 2 months of procrastination, I have finally decided to get busy, and have going on 2 hours of sleep/night since last Monday. Save for Friday night’s little diversion into drunk town.

If I’m reading the rules from the “head to head leagues” correctly, each statistical category counts as one game. So after the first week each team’s record will equal 24, for example 15-9 or 13-10-1, not 1-0 or 0-1. After the second week each teams record will equal 48 and so on.

Although I have’nt read it, I’m guessing the Steven King book with Tom Gordan’s name in the title is a horror book.

I could be way wrong, what with my dyslexia, and sleep deprivation - but I think that each head to head match-up is one game using the stat totals for that week. You get one point for each statistical category you ‘win’, and zero for each one you ‘lose’.

The score at the end of the ‘game’ gives you a win or a loss.

But I could be wrong. Or, I could have mis-typed half of this post.

I looked it up on the site – apparently this doesn’t work like football:

In a Head-to-Head League, your team will square off in a weekly matchup against another manager’s team to see who can compile the best stats across a number of different categories.

A new weekly matchup begins every Monday and will consist of a set number of games based on your league’s statistical categories. Each stat category counts as one game, with the win going to the team that finishes the week with the highest total in that category (the cumulative total after each Sunday’s games).

So, if in a given week, your team hits more home runs than your opponent’s, you would be credited with a victory. However, if your opponent’s team ended the week with more saves than your team, you would be charged with a loss. If the two teams end up tied in a given category, each will receive credit for a tied game.

This weekly win-loss total will be added to a cumulative season record, which will be used to determine standings and playoff seedings. These standings will be based on your team’s overall winning percentage, which is calculated by taking your win total and adding 1/2 of your tie total and dividing the sum by the total number of games your team has played.

Head-to-head scoring is available in both Public and Custom Leagues. All Public Leagues use the same default settings, while Custom League commissioners will be able to specify a number of settings, including roster size and stat categories.

BTW, here’s how playoffs are going to work:

All Head-to-Head Leagues must participate in fantasy playoffs beginning on September 5. The playoff systems will be the same for all Public and Custom Leagues, and will follow the structure detailed below.

Championship Bracket:
Week One
Bye: First Place and Second Place
P1: Third Place vs. Sixth Place
P2: Fourth Place vs. Fifth Place

Week Two
P3: First Place vs. Winner of P2
P4: Second Place vs. Winner of P1
Fifth Place Game: Loser of P1 vs. Loser of P2

Week Three
Championship Game: Winner of P3 vs. Winner of P4
Third Place Game: Loser of P3 vs. Loser of P4

Consolation Bracket:
Week One
Bye: Seventh Place and Eighth Place
C1: Ninth Place vs. Twelfth Place
C2: Tenth Place vs. Eleventh Place

Week Two
C3: Seventh Place vs. Winner of C2
C4: Eighth Place vs. Winner of C1
Eleventh Place Game: Loser of C1 vs. Loser of C2

Weeks Three
Seventh Place Game: Winner of C3 vs. Winner of C4
Ninth Place Game: Loser of C3 vs. Loser of C4

If you are in a Custom League with less then 12 teams, the system will work the same, except that all teams will receive byes until there are enough teams to fill all of the spots for a given week.

Playoffs are only for Head-to-Head Leagues and, regardless of size of your league, no more than six teams will ever participate in the championship bracket.

Additionally, the fantasy playoffs do not include any real-life professional baseball playoff contests.

And, keep in mind that players on teams that do not make the fantasy playoffs or are eliminated from the fantasy playoffs are not released back to the Available Players pool.

To support the ideas of fair play and sportsmanship, we encourage all managers to retain their players even after they have been eliminated from championship contention.

Too late- the season has started. Don’t worry, it will all even out in the end as the season goes on.

shit, I saw it was around 12 to 3 a few minutes ago. That’s worse than the MFYankees gave it to the Sox last night.
It’s okay though, I think Vroom likes it.

Anyone who has not purchased the StatTracker feature from Yahoo, I highly recommend. You get up-to-the-minute stats on your games and everyone else’s. Very slick and I think it is $14.95 for the season.

I think the first two weeks of the season are free. It can be a doubled edged sword though. I had jury duty today, so I was home early and I thought I’d check on my team. One of my pitchers, Woody Williams, had a 108.0 ERA (yes that decimal point is in the right place) Mr. Williams will now be chained to the bench if the Padres even fly over Colorado.

what’s the stat tracker really going to do for me besides give me yet something else to obsess over?
My head wasn’t made for long term storage of baseball stats.
I’m much more Grady Little than Tony Larussa, although I’d rather be called Joe Morgan (as in Morgan’s Magic) than Grady.

Anyone care to trade an outfielder for some pitching? Please? Pretty please?

My outfield blows ass, Griffey Jr. is the best I’ve got. How’s that for iffy?!!
