Thanks. So you’re getting up a good bit earlier before you start than me. Is that worth it? How tempted are you to hit snooze??
It was a bit difficult the first weeks, but I like to take my time in the morning, and not to be in a hurry.
If something unexpected happens it doesn’t really affect my arrival time at the gym ![]()
and I would add, with a baby unexpected things happen more often than before… ![]()
I used to.
These’d be the carbs I cut last when I train first thing in the AM.
What are you asking?
I understand, I prefer whole foods over powder too, but with morning training I’m more resistant to removing carbs from intra.
My most successful diet stint actually had me increase carbs as I became leaner. At least percentage-wise, can’t remember if that equated to an increase in carb intake with regards to grams per day.
P.S. I’m not dieting right now. But if you want to toss ideas around ![]()
I was at a weight loss plateau for 10 days or so, so I started carb and calorie cycling and I’m really liking it. I also plowed through my plateau. I’ve been doing keto since 1/1 but now on lifting days MWF I fast until after my evening workout. Immediately after I have a whey shake and then a big dinner with some carbs and then 5-6 oz of beef/steak before bed and then eat high-ish protein keto the next day. I figure this way I can take advantage of my weight training while staying lean. It’s working so far.
Thanksgiving weight 202
Contest weight 194
Current weight 178
Goal weight before my cruise on 2/26 is 170
The only thing that sucks about getting lean is realizing how much muscle i don’t have. My lifts are still going up though. I’m going to put in the work this year.
Don’t feel bad. I every pic I have posted for this challenge looks the same… lol
That was really easy to misread as “5:30: I start drinking dog pee.”
I am working out around 7 -7:30 am. I have nothing but lots of coffee before workout and I am having a shake mixed of protein and creatin and drinking it the entire workout.
I am having my breakfast at around 10 am.
Ti be honest never felt tired unless sleep is not enough.
Well what do you use for intra?
Thanks for the thoughts so far, everyone. I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing for a week or so, and then maybe start experimenting a little. It’s not like I’m low calorie yet; just starting to think ahead a little (which never actually helps).
I usually work out between 6-7 am
It’s a piece of piss really.
Usually fasted as well however I’ve started getting back into my protein shakes again so usually slug one of those before I hit the gym
If I’m planning to train but haven’t eaten then I’ll have a double protein shake and a banana. Yesterday I had a bagel with jelly instead of the banana and I felt great.
If I’m training first thing in the morning then I’ll have a protein bar. I like to have 30 or so minutes to digest the food. Have you tried having your carbs before you clean up the dog piss? Maybe you just need to adjust your timing.
This is probably the most obvious and easiest solution - thanks! This will become my first experiment
When you reduce intra, how much carbs do you eat in the day? If you’re training fasted or almost, these should be the last carbs to be cut out
Yeah I agree they’re the last to go. Last time I actually got lean (so a couple years ago), I never had to go much below 100g of carbs. Maybe I would for a day or two, but not as a main part of my plan. I kept at least 25g intra in throughout, so it did work.
I’m not really at a point where it’s a decision right now, because I can still have plenty of carbs, but I like to save as much allotment for dinner as possible because it just makes regular life easier.
@TrainForPain
0415 get out of bed, 3 S’s,
0500 take preworkout
0510 arrive at gym 5mins on incline treadmill, will have some intra from here on.
0520 start lifting
0620 finished workout, changed, driving to work drinking post workout.
I get you. 25 should be plenty enough anyway.
As for me I train in the evening, even when waking up at 5. When I have to train in the morning my performance, and my mental is always worse. And even worse if I’m fasted for sure
You shower before the gym? Otherwise, we’re on a pretty similar schedule.
I’m the opposite, probably just because I’m used to mornings. I hate going in the evening even when it fits my day better.
Here’s 4 weeks of “progress” for me.
Down 11 lbs (194 to 183), I feel like I’m closer to a couple visible abs, but definitely not seeing the difference in this photo.

There’s definitely a noticeable difference there man. Good work.
I train in the morning too. Most of the time I feel crappy and would much rather train midday which also happens to fit my schedule, but I get up early and am not cognitive ready to do anything productive
I’m also “training “ myself for when my schedule isn’t so nice ![]()
