Can some explain Occlusion training to me? It seems to be a growing trend, but I haven’t seen much about it. Is it just blood flow restriction? What’s the purpose?
Like autoerotic asphyxiation for your biceps.

Ya, that’s what concerns me

There’ve been a few articles discussing it over the years:

(^ Recent thread in Meadows’ forum with JM discussing his positive experiences with it.)
But yeah, like Csulli said, it’s basically Carradine-ing your arms or legs prior to an exercise in order to manipulate blood flow to the working muscle, which should influence the growth response. I haven’t played with it yet, but it sounds like an intensity technique worth experimenting with. Clearly not for beginners or potential Darwin Award winners.
Awesome, thanks Chris!
My biceps are lagging and I have always had difficulty with getting a pump. I have been using blood flow restriction for the past month or so with finisher sets. I get a great pump, and I have noticed some increase in bicep size; but I do not know yet if it is just fluid retention or if I have any real muscle growth from this. I am going to keep playing with this and see what happens.
Interesting article on occlusion training. If nothing else, take a look at the GH data:

That’s interesting, thanks!
Looks like I am going to try this on leg extensions next week. Hopefully it helps.
