Obama the Muslim Apostate?

The New York Times raises the question:

Highlights:
Of course, as most Americans understand it, Senator Obama is not a Muslim. He chose to become a Christian, and indeed has written convincingly to explain how he arrived at his choice and how important his Christian faith is to him.

His conversion, however, was a crime in Muslim eyes; it is “irtidad” or “ridda,” usually translated from the Arabic as “apostasy,” but with connotations of rebellion and treason. Indeed, it is the worst of all crimes that a Muslim can commit, worse than murder (which the victim’s family may choose to forgive).

With few exceptions, the jurists of all Sunni and Shiite schools prescribe execution for all adults who leave the faith not under duress; the recommended punishment is beheading at the hands of a cleric, although in recent years there have been both stonings and hangings. (Some may point to cases in which lesser punishments were ordered - as with some Egyptian intellectuals who have been punished for writings that were construed as apostasy - but those were really instances of supposed heresy, not explicitly declared apostasy as in Senator Obama’s case.)
Beheadings, stonings, and hangings for leaving Islam? Huh. I thought it was a religion of peace that allowed for freedom of conscience.

[EDIT: This is not an Obama-bashing thread. It was put up for illustration of some of the more uncomfortable facts of Islamic law. ]

Lixy is going to have a field day with this.

That’s what happens when you have people who need religion to maintain their power.

It has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with politics.

Good ole Mo was a political leader as well as a religious one.

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but he’s dead.

The Muslim world will really hate us.

People leaving a religion being killed? GASP!

The Saudis are our partners. They wanted someone in office who could understand them and us. It stands to reason that someone like Obama would be put forward by them.

You’ve no idea what you’re talking about.

Then why was a caliphate established upon his death? Why are Muslims calling for one now?

You don’t seem to know a lot about your religion. Maybe it’s the wrong one for you. Try Christianity. It’s truly a religion of peace.

Would rather be muslim than Christian any day of the week…

Any reason why?

Good website! Shows a lot of good stuff and how Muslims think.

Zap is correct. They hate us.

Now I see where you get your sullshit, from evil sites like that.

Why’d you lowercase ‘muslim’ and capitalize ‘Christian’?

whats your point? there are crazy people doing things in the name of every religion. Look at every white power militia in the US, all Christians. Lebanese Forces in Lebanon, Christian. Absurd numbers of Christian militias in Africa shitting everywhere along with Muslim ones.

so much for your religion of peace.

I just find it interesting that you’re only two posts have involved threads about Islam. Both of your posts have spewed the typical Islamic tu-quoque and lies.

Funny how all the Muslims on this site are the same.
