Nuts Roasted in Oil

I see most canned nuts on the shelf are roasted in oil, how much of the total fat content is from the oil and how much is actually from the nuts?

What is the best type of nuts to buy and why?

The best kind to eat are raw, unroasted kinds. As they give you good healthy fats. If you roast them the oils begin to racidify and you are now taking in junk fats.

Raw brazil nuts are an excellent source of zinc.

Federov91,

One thing I do is buy raw almonds by the pound or multi-pound pack. I put about a handfull of almonds on a paper towel, and microwave for about 10-15 seconds. When you hear the almonds starting to pop and sizzle, take them out and enjoy them. Lightly roasted almonds without the added oil and salt, plus they are really tasty. -The Starkdog

I never get anything other than raw. Raw almonds are probably a better choice than most others.

Does it hydrogenate them?

I don’t have my nutrition books with me, but you can answer your question next time you are at the store: compare the nutrition tables on the roasted nuts with those from the unroasted nuts in the baking supply aisle.

I buy raw in Bulk when not just picking up a quick snack.

Roast em my self in the oven overnight at low temp. 200 degrees or so.

GOOD STUFF,
