Novaeer's Training Log: On the Comeback Trail

Your Deads are so smooth!

You really take the term rowing to heart, eh?!!

Love the “toy corner”.

Thanks. The toys give me something to do in between sets, lol.

Nice work going on in here.

Thanks cap.

HTS Week 5 Day 2
September 22nd

Paused bench press 275x3;295x3
CG bench press 225x3x10
JM Press 135x3x10
I,T,Ys 3x10
Face pulls 3x15
Pushdowns 5x15
Curls 5x15

Summary: Not a bad day benching. My bench has not felt the same for a while now. Weights that used to feel light have started to feel heavier. Not sure what the deal is, although the weight loss could explain things to some degree. I was only supposed to do a single with 295, but I couldn’t just leave it at that, lol. Luckily, the triples felt good and the pauses were decent length. The close-grips were solid and resembled speed work through the first 8 or 9 reps on each set. Good pump from the rest of the assistance.

HTS Week Day 3
September 23rd

Squat (no belt) 315x4x2;1x2 (paused)
Deadlifts (no belt) 405x5x1
Band clamshells 3x12
Banded leg curls 5x15
Band side bends 3x15

Notes: Easy session. Squat felt a little off today, but I didn’t have any trouble with the weight at all – better not since it was only 315. I decided to add in a set of pauses just for the hell of it. Plowed through the deadlifts with about 45 seconds rest between sets. Rest of the stuff was quick and easy.

HTS Week 6 Day 1
September 26th

SSB squats 245x3x8
Floor press 225x2x5;225x8
One-legged DLs 3x8
Pulldowns 5x15
KB swings 3x15
Ab wheel 3x10

Summary: Squats were good. Haven’t done that many reps for that many sets in quite a while. I added a few sets of floor press because I want to see if a little added volume will help my bench. Kept the rest on the remaining assistance to a minimum and was practically wheezing by the end, lol.

HTS Week 6 Day 2
September 28th

Paused bench press 315x2;265x2x6
Dead benches 225x6x1
Face pulls 3x15
Pushdowns 5x15
Reverse curls 5x12

Summary: Not a bad bench session. Weight didn’t feel quite as heavy in my hands as it has over the past several weeks. I did a double instead of a single with 315 just because I felt like it. Did a couple of drop sets with 265 to get a little more volume in as well and the bar speed was very good. The dead benches didn’t pose much of a problem. Hopefully the bench progression continues going forward.

Nice training old man

Hope things are well with you mate.

Well, well, who let the young punk in here? Get off my lawn!! ;-D

HTS Week 7 Day 1
October 3rd

SSB 10" box squat 305x1;325x1;345x1;275x5
One-legged DL 3x10
Pulldowns 5x15
KB swings 4x15
Ab wheel 2x12

Summary: Didn’t get to lift until nearly 9 pm so I had to get things done as fast as possible - hard to do when you’re scheduled to work up to a heavy single on the evil SSB. Topped out at 345 and although it wasn’t a grinder, I didn’t want to take any unnecessary risks and possibly miss a weight. I did a drop set of 5 with 275, but probably could have cranked out a couple of more. Slayed the assistance work in short order. Good session and helped alleviate some stress.

HTS Week 7 Day 2
October 6th

2-board press 315x1;335x1;355x1
Paused bench press 275x2x6
Dead bench 235x3x1;245x3x1
Face pulls 5x15
I,T,Y’s 3x10
Pushdowns 5x15
Curls 3x12

Summary: Pretty good session. The top single with 355 felt pretty freaking heavy in my hands and is probably the most weight I’ve handled in terms of straight weight for a few months (too lazy to check). Did a couple sets of 6 with 275 this week. First set was sloppy for the last several reps for some weird reason, but second was a hell of a lot better. Dead benches were good and made an executive decision to bump the weight up some. Assistance work to finish things off and that was that.

Nice work Novaeer!

Well, look who it is. Now my thread is officially awesome.

HTS Week 7 Day 3
October 7th

Squat 315x3x2;345x3
2" Deficit DL w/u to 425x5
Band clam-shells 3x15
Seated leg curls 5x15
Band side bends 4x15

Summary: Squat form was a little off today, but the weight didn’t feel bad at all even sans belt. Deficit pulls were smooth, though the 5th rep felt a heck of a lot slower than the first 4 for some reason. Not even close to being a grinder. I think this week is a deload, though I’m not feeling particularly beat up or anything. I’ll make it a semi-deload instead.

How is the hip holding up mate?

Are you planning a meet any time soon? I am competing on the 18th nov - cant wait!!

OK, I’m back. Deloaded last week, so me no posty.

HTS Week 9 Day 1
October 17th

SSB box squats (~1" below parallel) 235x2x2;245x2x2;255x2x2
Speed pulls 365x8x1
CS rows 4x10
Pulldowns 4x15
DB split squats 3x10
Ab wheel 2x15

Summary: No twinges in the left glute this session. Had good power out of the hole with squats and speed pulls felt pretty speedy. Kept rest periods on both at ~1 minute. Split squats showed up in the rotation again - damn you, Adam. Balance was best it has been in a long time, but they still had me wheezing after every set, lol. Good day overall.
