Novaeer's Training Log: On the Comeback Trail

Very solid work.

LOL, yes those brahs are curling in the power rack.
Those were some nice curls, but they need to work on their hip drive more to really work teh gunz. Was one of them curling with wrist straps? Good skills.

Oh yeah, something about squats too.

If I see those bros again I’ll give them that tip. I saw at least 5 people yesterday curling with wrist straps. WTF?!? You want to curl it, yet you need the peace of mind that your grip won’t fail – on curls? :-/

pfft…whatever squatting against bands…have you ever curled against bands?

JK awesome work, cant wait till Adam has me box squatting against bands!

could it be said that pulling off blocks is actually harder?

I always found rack pulls ridiculously uncofortable and hard for this reason…
Yep. I have the same problem.

Great work in here, Novaeer!

LOL, that could revolutionize bicepzz training like never before.

I can’t believe how ridiculously hard on the body squatting against bands is. I used them all the time when I wore multiply gear and they didn’t tear me up as badly as they did yesterday. My legs and hips are freaking sore.

Thanks, snap.

HTS Week 9 Day 2
July 7th

Bench press +90m w/u 295x1
CG 3-board bench press +90m 225x3x5
DB bench press 100x11,7 (lol, that’s sad)
DB triceps extensions 40x4x12
I,T,Ys 10x3x10
Pushdowns 5x20
Hammer curls 50x3x8

Summary: I haven’t benched heavy against doubled minis for quite a bit, so I was pleased to hoist up 295. I think my PR is something like 315-25, but that was when I was capable of 370+. The close grips were solid, probably in the 8 RPE range. I haven’t used anything more than 80# dumbbells in an eternity, but to get only 11 reps on the first set and 7 during the second is kinda weaksauce. I was blasted by the end of this session, especially going in fasted. Solid day overall, IMO. No vids. :frowning:

HTS Week 9 Day 3
July 8th

6" box pulls +dbl avg bands 365x3x3
1-leg DLs 50x3x8 (good lord, this was comedy)
Leg press 4pps(?)x3x15
DB rows 120x16,16
Seated DB cleans 35x3x12 (supposed to be 15)
Pulldowns 3x12
Lying leg curls 3x25,1x18 (right hammie cramped up a bit, but nothing serious)
Pushdowns 100 reps

Summary: Completely wiped out after this. Felt really strong on the box pulls with the bands. I’m not sure how much tension it was, but I think it was quite a bit and there was tension on it from the start. When I was warming up double overhand, the bar nearly got yanked right out of my hand at lockout. The single-leg DLs tested my balance, and I got a passing grade on my right side and failed miserably on the left. Adam had me doing leg presses today and I paid absolutely no attention to how much weight I put on, but whatever it was, it was easy per his recommendation. Everything else was solid, though I did get a cramp in my right hamstring during the 4th set. No biggie because it stopped after a minute or so.

Aweome work dude, I was studying the set up, it looks like it was a workout all its own! Seriously eventually I believe Adam will have me doing those so I may have to pick your brain with the set up

You better believe it was a workout, lol. The rack at the gym has band pegs, but unfortunately they are too close together to get any tension at the bottom. So we had to lug the 120s and 125s over to the rack, then loop the bands on the dumbbells and over the bar sleeve. Then we had to put plates up against the DBs because otherwise they would roll once you started pulling. If your gym has a good power rack where the pin-holes start low, you can avoid all this and just loop the bands around the safety pins and do rack pulls against bands.

That looked strong. Nice work.

Thanks Crippler.

HTS Week 10 Day 1
July 11th

Box squats 245x5x2
Sumo Dimel DLs 195x2x10
One-legged DLs 20kg KBs 3x10
Pulldown abs (average band) 3x8
Seated leg curls 5x20

Summary: With my piriformis being a pain in my ass and causing me some grief, Adam decided to dial back my lower body work this week. Strangely, the box squats really didn’t bother the area at all and I had great bar speed coming off the box on through to lockout. The Dimel DLs did elicit a bit of crankiness from the glute, but probably a 3 out of 10 at the worst. I finished this whole session in about 20-25 minutes and the sweat was just rolling off of me, which is saying something since I don’t sweat a lot during training.

Set-up sounds like a ball-ache, but those were some strong pulls. Nice work mate.

HTS Week 10 Day 2
July 14th

2-board press 295x3x3
CG 3-board press 275x3x6
DB Paused bench 70x2x10
I,T,Ys 10x3x10
Pushdowns 5x15
Hammer curls 40x3x8

Summary: Good day overall. Board presses flew up nice and easy, plus the CG 3-bd gave me a hell of a tricep pumpzz. Handled the assistance work in fairly short order, but wow those I,T,Ys are brutal by the time you get to the Ys.

Agreed on the ITYs damn after a while they are such a bitch!

I have never done ITYs, do you think they are worth it? Do they help with recovery or mobility?

They really do help a lot, more with giving you some direct shoulder work without the presses. They serve as a nice rotator cuff prehab, too.

What are ITYs? Youtube revealed nothing useful…
