The half-hearted effort by the MSM and congress to reveal that the rationale for the Iraq war was based on LIES – not “bad intelligence”.

Of course they’re being somewhat disingenuous by not delving more into Douglas Feith’s background – so I will.

Who specifically is he talking about?..

Zinni is talking about a group of policymakers within the administration known as “the neo-conservatives” who saw the invasion of Iraq as a way to stabilize American interests in the region and strengthen the position of Israel.

They include Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz; Undersecretary of Defense Douglas Feith; Former Defense Policy Board member Richard Perle; National Security Council member Eliot Abrams; and Vice President Cheney’s chief of staff, Lewis “Scooter” Libby.

Zinni believes they are political ideologues who have hijacked American policy in Iraq.

“I think it’s the worst kept secret in Washington. That everybody - everybody I talk to in Washington has known and fully knows what their agenda was and what they were trying to do,” says Zinni…

Feith left Defense in mid-1986 to found the Feith & Zell law firm, based initially in Israel, whose clients included major military contractor Northrup Grumman…

Israel To U.S.: Don’t Delay Iraq Attack
JERUSALEM, Aug. 16, 2002
(CBS) Israel is urging U.S. officials not to delay a military strike against Iraq’s Saddam Hussein, an aide to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Friday.

Israeli intelligence officials have gathered evidence that Iraq is speeding up efforts to produce biological and chemical weapons, said Sharon aide Ranaan Gissin.

“Any postponement of an attack on Iraq at this stage will serve no purpose,” Gissin said. “It will only give him (Saddam) more of an opportunity to accelerate his program of weapons of mass destruction…”

As evidence of Iraq’s weapons building activities, Israel points to an order Saddam gave to Iraq’s Atomic Energy Commission last week to speed up its work, Gissin said…

Israeli Subcommittee Faults Intelligence on Iraq
An investigation into Israel’s failure to provide accurate intelligence on Iraq’s weapons capabilities found that Israeli intelligence agencies suffered from a closed “information loop,” as well as other failures.

The conclusions are the result of an eight-month investigation by the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Subcommittee for Intelligence and Secret Services that questioned intelligence officials, military officers, and Cabinet members. On March 28, the subcommittee released an 81-page declassified report pending the completion of a longer, classified version…

The subcommittee found that Israeli intelligence agencies used information from foreign intelligence services without recognizing that the other states obtained the data from Israel in the first place.

First of all, Zinni rocks! An intelligent, honest real leader of Marines his opinion should be listened to carefully. Particularly because he has always been an outspoken thinker in uniform instead of an outspoken bag of wind. While this info cooking has been detailed elsewhere, it was pretty obvious to all but the most blind/patriotic/ignorant that there wasn’t a strong case for this invasion from the beginning. I remember watching in horror as we lurched into this disaster, thinking: “What are people thinking?” The answer of course, is: “They aren’t.”
A good book on Zinni and the background for this whole situation is: BATTLE READY by Tom Clancy.

Hmmm…there’s not much connection between what I wrote and your response. But I will say: I do look forward to conquering Belgium as I lead my troops into your country. Since that has happened a lot, I’m sure you’ll know how to welcome us.

I support our military. And guess what? A lot of those generals didn’t support going into Iraq. They’ve showed us where the blame lies, and it’s not with them. It’s with the admin.
