Not A Sport

Poker on ESPN. That irritates me. Especially when I know that there is a good non-televised football game happening and ESPN is carrying that stupid World Championship of Poker. Poker is boring enough, WATCHING poker is just rediculous.

As a side note, and I’m sure you know this, but ESPN can’t just televise whatever it wants. If a football game isn’t televised, it’s probably the school or the conference’s fault, not ESPN’s.
Yeah, I know. It just pisses me off when poker is on for hours on a sports channel. Almost as rediculous as fishing on ESPN. At least in fishing you have to throw out a line and reel in a fish. Some level of physical effort is involved. In poker is a bunch of fat guys in stupid sunglasses barely moving. The freaking dealer is the most active guy involved.

Ken Stabler said he doesn’t remember half of the games he played in because he was so drunk.

Fine PGA, you win, golf is the only thing in the world which can actually be considered sport. Everything else is just foolish children’s’ games.

Athough I’m fairly certain I’d have more urgent questions on my mind if I were to find myself speaking with Babe Ruth or Micky Mantle. Like “um, you do realize you’re dead, right?”

At some point I read, I believe on this site, that something can’t be considered a sport if it can be done WELL, by a fat man, while drinking.
Hmm…

Can certainly be done by a fat man, but the best male athlete and the best female athlete in the sport are both quite skinny.

Food for thought.

The stereotypes aside, Have you ever played high level competitive poker? Its not fat guys sitting around. It is one of the most mentally exhausting things I have ever done. Every move you make, breath you take, word you say is being measured by your opponents. Everything that happens on the table is being watched and interpreted. In the WSOP, the players are in full focus and concentration for up to 12 hours a day for weeks. It may not be a physical contest, but most certainly a mental contest.

For the record, I don’t wear sunglasses when I play. I think they are silly.

Dammit, I guess I have to admit that soccer is a sport. As long as the kids are having fun…what the heck…
As long as gay sex can be considered a sport, soccer must be too.

golf is a sport…
