Northern Illinois Univ. Shooting

Northern Illinois University says 16 others wounded.

It never seems to stop!

I go to school at NIU, and thankfully I am safe. I was on campus when it happened. We were locked in on campus for an hour, then told to go home, and only law enforcement were allowed on campus. As of 8pm CST, 23 injured, 6 dead (including the shooter). Campus closed through Sunday. No names released yet.

God was looking out for me. I was going to leave work early today at 2.50pm (I work on campus). I ALWAYS walk past the building everyday on my way to school/work/home. If I would have left work at 2.50pm, I would be in front of that building at 3pm. The shooter opened fire at 3pm. God saved my life, he is on my side.

It’s sad, can’t even go to school without having to look over your shoulder to see if anyone is going to do something. Sad.

Good to see you’re still typin’ T, I was wonderin’ if you were alright. College is now drivin’ people to shoot, wow.

God was on your shoulder today, tmoney. I’m glad you made it out safely, and hope nobody you knew was hurt.

I was wondering about you - glad you’re alright man. Say some extra prayers tonight

Such a horrible thing to happen, good to know youre ok T, God was on your side today.

My prayers go out to you and your friends up there.

I live about 25 minutes from NIU and have a ton of friends that go there, still waiting to hear from a couple that they’re ok. Starting to get a bit nervous.

Luckily I’ve heard from most and my gf’s brother was ok.

People are so fucked

Great to hear you’re okay tmoney1. That’s some bad shit, you stay strong Bro, lot of people you know are going to need support. My prayers go out to all.

Thanks for the thoughts AC, much appreciated. Yeah apparently college does strange things to people. The shooter was a grad student here at NIU, but was not enrolled this semester.

How is school going? Hope you are safe.

Thanks tGun, I’m glad I made it out safely as well. They have not released any names, but I am seriously hoping it’s no one I know. Either way, it’s very sad for any student (or person in general) to be shot and lose their life.

Hey squiggles, good to hear from you. Thanks for the thoughts. Yeah I pray 5 times a day right now, but definitely said some extra prayers today, and will for the future.

Thanks WS4JB, much appreciated. Prayers are always welcomed.

Whereabouts in Illinois are you?

Thanks streamline, I appreciate it. I’m definitely staying strong. Gotta look out for each other.

A friend of mine, who is also in Canada, said they had the school shooting on the news up there, and she sent me a text message, saying the story was being shown on TV. News spreads.

GENERAL UPDATE:

-Traffic is definitely back to normal now. Still heavy police/security/law enforcement everywhere. Campus is pretty much closed off with yellow police tape. At one stretch, saw 10 cops in a row with AK-47’s ready to go to town on people, if necessary.

-Lotta people still shaken up. Quite a few students went home today to their hometowns, and parents were picking up their kids and taking them home. School is closed Thursday and Friday, and the school might be closed on Monday as well, but no decision as of yet.

-For anyone who watched the press conference with NIU’s president, John Peters, and the Chief of Police, President Peters looked lost. He didn’t give a lot of direct answers, and seemed kinda clueless on the whole situation. The Chief of Police, on the other hand, looked like a million bucks. Maybe HE should be the new university president lol. I understand Peters is shaken up, but as the face of a university, he should have been better prepared. Just my thought (as well as a lot of other people on campus).

-NIU was closed down on Monday, 12/10/07 due to terrorist threats that were written on a bathroom stall. Something along the lines of ‘VA Tech shootings were nothing, we’re gonna kill twice as many people’ and other nonsense things. Heavy police/FBI/bomb squad that whole week (which was Finals week), but back to normal after that. Apparently, the word is that NIU’s emergency action plan is going to come under fire very soon.

-I had a syst drained today, and it was pretty painful, but not as painful as students getting shot and losing their lives. Prayers and thoughts go out to all the victims, families, friends, and communities. Victims - RIP 2008.

-I hate to call it this, but for now, it will probably be remembered as the Valentine’s Day Massacre. Horrible.

sadly, the second valentine’s day massacre. also in Illinois strangely.

But seriously my cousin goes to NIU also and her boyfriend is in that Geology class and is a seriously nerdy kid who rarely if ever misses class and would have sat in the front row. She said the shooter came from behind the professor in the front of the class. Somehow she convinced him to skip his last class today and spend the day with her on valentine’s. not even kidding, God looking out for my cousin and you tmoney.

I don’t understand random shootings.

Kill who you mean to kill, not innocent folks.

I don’t believe in god but I do hope there’s a special place in hell for people like that.

Apparently, these shooters want to kill themselves. But not before taking out as many people as they can with them. Kind of like suicide bombers.

Interesting parallel. Except, rock-n-roll records are the scapegoat and not religion.

Religion’s never hurt anyone. It’s never told anyone to hurt other people.
