Retirement at age 62…36 years in the nuclear business is enough
Be a better father. Be a better husband.
Career wise, not sure. I work as a software engineer / cloud architect and AI really worries me.
I run my own business now and my current contract ends in mid-late 2027.
I’m going to try to make myself AI proof this year and increase my knowledge of AI so if my contract is not renewed then I can hopefully find another job.
Just not sure how hopeful I should be. I hear the market is very bad. Lots of layoffs and they will only get worse.
TMI…. ![]()
I would very much like to finish the renovations on the house we bought so we can move in. (When I say I, I mean mostly my husband) To be fair, I make an exceptional helper. My oldest will graduate this year and I am hoping that I can guide him well into the next step. I would also like to do a good purge of crap that I am storing in my house. I have countless books that I will never read again and other large amounts of just pain old junk. Gonna work on that.
To read the Bible in a year and continue growing closer to Jesus. ![]()
Keep my patience with my younger son and not insert a boot in his butt.
To pick back up and maintain better cardiovascular capabilities.
Sucking sucks!
I’m gonna add two @s.gentz and @marine77 inspired goals.
I don’t think it’s a bad thing to be on your phone(especially when your with us!!), that’s not what I was suggesting. It becomes a thing when a person is so engrossed in whatever is on the screen that it becomes priority over real life.
Sometimes I let this happen. The phone thing is something that I have needed to work on for a while. I just need to be better about putting it away when I should. I’m on it at work and when I should be engaging with my family. That’s actually the reason why I’m not on Instagram or Facebook or any of those things. I used to be and it was not good. I tend to get sucked in and spend hours scrolling. At least here there is a limit to how many logs I read and how many threads I will engage in so it’s not as bad. But it’s still what I would consider excessive. I’m gonna try to cap it at a morning check in and an evening check in. Plus I need to be a better example for my kids. My youngest has taken to referring to me as a " screenager". I think he is just teasing, but still, he has a point.
I completely agree with this! And need to do better in this regard, too.
@BethB I will join you in your non lifting goal. It takes too much of my time. I value TN enough that I don’t necessarily begrudge my time here, but after I’ve caught up I tend to just stay on the phone - run over to FB and see what’s happening there, doom scroll through politics and nonsense, etc. I need to do better!
To make a lot of money
I read the Bible through for the first time last year (I’m 53). Really wish I had done it sooner. This year I’m going to focus more on actual Bible study to get some deeper understanding.
I admittedly spend a lot of time on my phone, esp discord and what’s app, because it’s how I get my social interaction.
My friends are either through online spaces or live far away and I’m not the type to “go out” and meet people.
It was so much easier to make friends when I took classes
Love your goal, I have read various books of the Bible thru-out the years…but on the 1st of this year I decided to read from beginning to end, right now I am at Genesis 7
Recommend a really light easy read on this subject (only fair to return the book recommendation) - How to break up with your phone by Catherine Price (would recommend getting a physical copy not audio - very short read).
Practical steps I’ve taken - disabled email notifications (seems daunting, but the reality is you’ll still check your emails plenty, just not when your phone demands it of you, plus I have far too many emails addresses and emails!).
Disabling most app notifications.
Using a blocker for certain websites that I get a little obsessive in checking (news sites, I’ve actually just stopped watching the news, it’s great).
I still find plenty of wasted time on my phone even with those things, but it’s helped.
Also loving the Bible reading zeal in here, if you’ve already done the whole book systematically (I’ve never managed to get it done within the year, but usually finish anyway), I’d recommend two things, 1) a chronological read through 2) reading the whole thing in a different translation (a few of my favourites, NASB, NLT, NKJV and ESV, notable mentions to the Mounce and amplified but not for a read through).
I used an app that broke it up for me into doable chunks. It did divide the Psalms up over a long time rather than reading them straight through, tacking them onto the end of the day’s verses.
Ordered!
Finish the year with the same amount of ACLs I started it with.
