No Promises This Time

Yesterday, swim run.
Busy all day today running around.
Ok, more personnal crap ahead.
They say you never forget you first one. I was very lucky in my early years. Never broke a bone, no sports injury. Played lots of sports and very physical but aside from soreness and bruises nothing else. Joined the military.
Mar 15, 1981, 41 years ago today. Returning in the RC135 Cobra Ball from Eielson AL to Shemya AS and we sheered the front landing gear on landing. Slid 2000+ft, plane split in to 3 part and the fuel explodeed. 24 of us on the plane, 6 killed and the rest of us got varying and multiple injuries. I was just ferrying so was sitting in the very rear of the plane. An onboad power unit decided it wanted to go from the left side of the aircarft to the right. I happen be between the left and right side. First major injury (ies) in my life. Compound fracture to my Ulna, Clavicle broke in 2 place, shoulder severly dislocated, 3 ribs broke, dislocated hip. Manage to get the unit off me using my right side arm and leg and crawled out of the aircarft before it burned. First of many injuries to come. So tonight I light some candles for those who didn’t make it, pour 7 shots of whiskey, and wait for old friends to show up. Remembering the Fate of RC-135 Cobra Ball II – Station HYPO

Probably not any throwing this year. Leaving in 29 days (if nothing changes). Sure miss it though. My true love in sports. This time of year was Track and Field (Athletics) back in High School and I still get the urge after all these years. Standing in a beautiful field, just you and watching your fly throw in the air. So cathartic. Guess I’ll just have to settle for swimming and cavorting on the beach.

I’m going to forward this one.

If Cajuns didn’t go to the New Orleans St. Patrick’s day parade it would be a wash out.

Lol, all 4 nations within the UK have theyre lingo. I can see the Scottish coastline from my home, but dont ask me what theyre saying…can make a word out lol.
Bit personal, but I should mention i live in Northern Ireland, but am very much British. Im a member of the protestant loyalist/unionst community. I grew up on what was a frontline during the troubles, the scars on my head are from an IRA bomb blowing my bedroom windows through when i was 9.
Historically this is also a bad time for me, 4 years ago this month my brother took his own life, he would have been 50 this year. He was a memeber of the British forces (i also would have been, but i suffered a stroke at 24 while waiting to get called up for basic training). It was found out by informers my brother was on a IRA ā€œhit listā€, unfortunately the years of watching over his shoulder took its toll on his mental state. He wouldnt even sleep without the light on. At least he has peace now though.

Ive the upmost respect for those in the forces and for those that have served like yourself, both here in the UK and with our allies. Ive been to Belgium, Holland, Poland and to the Normandy beaches to pay my respects to those that give theyre lives so that the people could live in a free society. The most sobering place was at Ohama beach.

Unfortunately it looks like we could end up back there again because of yet again one delusional twat that has ideas above his station. But Ive 100% confidence that if Russia was to put one boot on NATO territory they’re children will be rised by someone else!! The Wests military are THE best, as is our anti nuke, tank, plane, ship equipment. I take my hat of though to the Ukrainian army and resistance.

Anyho, thats enough seriousness for one day lol.

Thanks for sharing and I really mean that. My wife always says, ā€œeveryone has their own unique storyā€ and she’s never been proven wrong. Knew and still know many fellow GIs who couldn’t and can’t get rid of the past. I’ve many years in combat but the worst was the short time I spent involved in Urban fighting. Never Know who the enemy is and everyone could be.Worked with the Brits a lot back in the day. Great group to have at your back and I must admit to party with. Learn some reall baudy drinking songs. You’ve come a long way physicaly for someone’s had a stroke at 24. Says a lot good about you. And you’re right, enough seriousness for one day, hell at least for a week.

Hit the gym today with the goal of benching 315 probably for the last time. Didn’t get it. Turn 67 in about 10 minutes so figure this may be the end of 3 plates. Like losing an old friend. Think if I cut out some of my other activities and trained for a while I could still get it but don’t want to cut out my healthier training. Big meal with the family planned for tomorrow. The healthy training might have to wait for the next day.
