No Pain No Gain

hmm, maybe you ARE fast twitch dominant. does anyone have any input on this and whether or not ME days a la Westside would help?

I wish I could help you here, but usually I’ll smoke part of a lift, stall a bit, then grind to lockout. it’s fun watching the spotter jump when I stall.

12/13/11

Decided to help my roomie get started today, so I did his workout with him and decided to play it by ear and listen to my body in terms of how heavy to go

A) Bench… bench felt good, I went relatively heavy, a few reps away from failure
95 x 5
135 x 5
185 x 5
205 x 5
225 x 5
235 x 5

B) Squat… last couple sets I felt my low back start to hurt, so I called it and stayed light
95 x 5
135 x 5
155 x 5
185 x 5
205 x 3

C) Pullups
bw x 9 (rep PR)
bw x 7
bw x 6

D) Leg Curls - machine was terrible so I didn’t do them.

Deciding on if I’m going to meet an “acquaintance” of mine out at the bar tonight.

…who am I kidding. I’ll be there…

Ya know, it occurs to me it might be because I trained CT style for so long. Never going over 85%ish of my max, always doing sets of 3, focusing on performance and explosive reps, stopping an exercise when performance started going down.

I definitely progressed doing that, but I can see how it could’ve make my 1RM not far above my 3RM having never done a grinder in a year.

dude, props on even getting out there and doing anything resembling a workout. you just did NINE 1RM attempts in one day. even just 1RM testing deadlift by itself messes my whole week up, and you did that +7-8 more. I hope you’re nomming like crazy and doing other recovery stuff.

and yeaaa I’d agree with that. you need to learn how to grind fosho. it’s the only way you learn how to use 100% of EVERYTHING to complete a lift.

So, the lab I have bloodwork done at has recently been hounding me to pay an old bill. The invoice is for over $2000, despite the fact that I have insurance that paid most of it (I even called them way back in Sept to confirm, and they said I really owed them about $300, so I waited for my online invoice to be updated).

Well I go to pay, it’s still showing $2,100 dollars. I send an angry email yesterday, and I get informed this morning I really only owe $110.

10 to 1 odds says if I payed the full 2 G’s they wouldn’t have said bupkus.

Getting a sleep study tonight to test for sleep apnea. Oh boy.

Thanks. And don’t worry, the undersweater is going nowhere.

Thanks man… I was really pissed I had an easy 235x5 bench after not going above 255 at the meet though haha.

haha your sleep study is tonight too? I’ve got my follow up tonight…I get to wear a CPAP for mine though…rock on!

Random Workout 2:

Showin the roomie how to DL and overhead press. My deadlift was somewhere between a deload and a real sesh. I could’t stop myself from going heavy on OHP though.

A) Dead
95 x 5
135 x 5
185 x 5
225 x 5
295 x 3
335 x 3 - this felt heavy as FUCK. To be expected after the meet tho.

B) OHP
95 x 5
125 x 5
155 x 5
175 x 3
185 x 2… was going for one, it went up easy, as did the second, but failed on 3.

C) Yates Row
I had to skip out because I’m on a tight sched, but I show him how I BB row and did one set myself.
165 x… dunno… 9-10ish maybe

Booked it home, got things to do and people to see! Or is it people to do, and things to see?

/mystery’d

Fuckin doctor told me I looked like Kris Humphries and massaged my shoulders/traps for 2-3 seconds before awkwardly jumping back as if he suddenly realized what he was doing.

“he” was not a typo.

god damn I look boss in my avi.

YOU FREAKING PEEHOLE I WILL KILL YOU. We’ll see who’s out-deadlifting who a year from now!

He has clearly stayed on too long as commish. It’s not 1985 anymore, you can’t just do whatever you want, smile and tell people not to worry about it, and let it go away.

When will it be MINEZ Turn for akward shoulder massage?

Damn I’m sore.

Ha!!

Consider yourself thoroughly stalked, dude!

GREAT JOB at the meet! I loved your videos…just a little more inspiration to push me in that direction.

You’ve got more in there for sure, I’m excited to keep up with you in here to see how you progress through the next year.

Dude! My friend, Kim (Jong il) died on a fucking BUS yesterday!

Sad scj today… girl I was really digging, and it seemed to be really going well with, totes blew me off in an extremely weird way yesterday. I’ll get over it but I so rarely find a girl I actually like that it’ll suck for a day or 2. More motivation in the gym I guess.

Bored at work so figured I’d post my goals for the next 12 months or so. Gonna run a Dave Tate-ish yearlong cycle.

~3months - conditioning focus. Haven’t been doing it and I need to. Also could stand to lose a few pounds to help my blood pressure since we can’t figure out why the hell it’s still elevated. Will use 5/3/1 and make sure to keep progressing in strength on the big 4 lifts.
3months - hypertrophy focus. After intense conditioning phase, gonna up the volume and the calories to get JACKED. As always, will make sure I’m progressing in strength on the main lifts
3months - Traditional strength focus, back off on the assistance somewhat.
3months - Strength work, add in heavy singles, prep for meet

Add it up, and you’ll see I plan to compete again in about a year. Now on to some goals for 2012:

Physique - lose a bit around the midsection, continue bringing up my back, bring up arms as well
Strength - 585x1 pull, 450x1 squat, 345x1 bench, 240x1 military Current PRs are 474/341/290/200.
Athleticism - dunk with a regulation bball

Feelin like squats today. Will train in a bit.

Hahahaha

5/3/1 Week 1, Day 1 (OHP)

Forgot to bring gym shoes so couldn’t squat. Worked out in my plastic shower slippers. Whoops.

I have been eating and sleeping like SHIT since my meet, and it showed. I had no energy, and was nowhere near hitting any PRs. I just have no appetite and feel like crap when I’m not lifting heavy, it does things for mah body. Forced myself through a whole workout though.

A1) OHP
70 x 5
90 x 5
110 x 3
-work sets-
115 x 5
135 x 5
150 (5+ ) x 9.99999 - recorded vid. Laugh at me as I fail twice in one set. Think I wanted badly to hit a PR today?

A2) Yates Rows
140 x 12
160 x 10
175 x 8 rep PR
175 x 7

B) Seated DB OHP
65 x 9
65 x 8
65 x 7

C) Lateral DB Raises
30 x 8
30 x 7
30 x 9 (cheating)

… sets of chins between B) and C). 6 sets @ bodyweight.

D) Kroc Rows
95 x 17

CT always talks about how grip strength is a good indicator of how your CNS is doing. I totally believe him after today. My grip was giving out after 12 reps, lats and arms felt fine (PR here is 100x20 and 95x25 for reference). Couldn’t hold on after 17.

I curl what you squat, chump

We’re you at Gold’s last night?

Even though I slept like shit again, I feel miles better today than yesterday. I think I have developed a physical addiction to lifting. I feel like death incarnate when I don’t do it.

Come over, I got some peanut butter for your sandwich.

I was at the capitol hill golds from 330-5ish. Prob get there around 3 today, maybe hit up Van Ness golds late Thursday after I help a buddy move. You in town on break?

Wtf does that mean? I’m all about being clever and original, but what the fuck does that mean? Sorry: insult did not compute. Mostly because it was weird.
