So, I have to share a story from last night.

My buddy and I were having some beers at a local watering hole talking about… um, whatever the hell we talk about. There are two girls next to us who vaguely resemble Shrek and Donkey. One is piss drunk and passing out on the bar (keep in mind it’s like 1030pm on a Tuesday).

Her sober-looking friend - who we had not said a WORD to at all (obvi we were lost in each other’s eyes all night) - asked if we would be OK taking care of her drunk friend while she hopped in a cab home.

You are asking RANDOM STRANGERS to watch over your friend and make sure she gets home safe? What the fucking shit bro?

Obviously, we said no and that we were about to leave.

People are assholes.

Sometimes I have to jump a little bit just to get my adrenaline goin… I dunno. I honestly wasn’t even proud of that PR, it was more of a relief to finally hit a number I should’ve hit a long time ago.

The only PR I was thoroughly stoked about was 405deadlift, I felt like I had finally gone from beginner to intermediate. 5mins later I was pissed I got so happy about such a tiny weight.

Haha, I haven’t had time to head out to FF this week. Squat day I had to book it home to meet up with my buddy from baltimore, tomorrow (bench) I wanted to come out but I have to stay in DC because I gots plans at 7. I think a bench day at FF might be in order before the meet… which means I gotta sack up and get that membership

5/3/1 Meet Prep, 4 weeks out Day 3 (Bench)

OK so I am officially in full-on panic mode about my bench. 255x1 felt HEAVY today, what the fuck. I can’t figure out what the right grip width is, or what my best form is, and I only have 2 bench sessions left before the meet! At least my squat has improved 10x over. Dead is more or less on track.

Clearly I am going to have to bribe VT with beers (and never actually pay up on my offer) for some bench help, just like I did for squats.

I went SLIGHTLY off the template. I did three different singles at my opener weight instead of one… tons of rest between sets for recovery… each single being a different grip width to see what felt best. Wide grip felt the least stable but I think went up the quickest

Workout:
A) Bench
105 x 5
130 x 5
155 x 3
-work sets-
185 x 3
210 x 3
235 x 3
255(85% meet goal) x 1 (wide grip) vid failed to save
255 x 1 (normal grip)

255 x 1 (narrow grip)

…sets of chins between sets of bench, about 5-6 sets

B) Floor Press
175 x 10
185 x 10
195 x 8

…that’s it. Had places to be. Still not liking low volume meet prep stuff either.

That last video didnt look like narrow grip to me…but whatever you call it, you were way weaker on it than your first video, so use whatever grip that was…you smoked 255…I dont know what youre bitching about…

And dont beat yourself up about the low volume…that is very handy for bench as the weaker delts tend to fatigue easier…in fact, i wouldnt even overhead press in Week -2 (the heavy singles week)…just make that a MWF week with bench in between squats/deadlifts (whichever you want, i recommend DL’ing first since that takes the most out of me)

And i just realized you do in fact owe me a ton of beer…I managed to get you nearly 50 pounds on your squat without you getting any stronger whatsoever…you are definitely helping me move, bitch
