No Pain No Gain

Why are you not getting more Protein?

How much fluid you drink a day?

How much do you sleep?

I would just have to say that increasing the reps range is what has done it.

Now just wonder how your LEGS are going to feel.

That was just my periworkout protein… I eat about 400g total a day.

I drink water all day long at my desk and at home… sleep rarely less than 7 hours (though I never feel refreshed and am always fatigued, an issue I am looking into).

I don’t even want to think about how my legs will feel wed/thurs after squats today.
Okay well than all I can say is that you are on the right track.

DOMS suck but you know you worked.

Normal body response to taking yourself over a threshold that you have not done prior.

Keep up all the great work.

5/3/1 Week 1, Day 2 (Squat)

Today just flat out blew. I felt fine walking in but had no intensity on any of my sets. Could not move the bar for shit, and my knee pain came back out of nowhere with a vengeance to boot.

A) Squats… forgot to mark down the new numbers for this cycle so I guessed. Suck at life today on all fronts.

110 x 5
135 x 5
160 x 3
-work sets-
170 x 5 (knee started hurting)
195 x 5
220(5+ ) x 8, nearly failed on last rep when my patella broke through my skin (or so it felt like)

B) Leg Press… convinced myself a few minutes off would be ok
5pps x 8 x 2, knee clicked/popped/exploded so much I stopped. Lame weight and rep totals.

Decided it was best to walk outta the gym here. Gonna feast tonight and go to bed at like 9:30 for the sake of recovery. Got my main work in, I’m not gonna atrophy because I didn’t do 3 sets of crunches or leg curls.

Day off tomorrow, gonna hit OHP hard on Thurs.

On the plus side, in the 2 or 3 months since I started squatting on the reg, my ass and thighs can barely fit in my boxers. Fulfilling my dream of thunderthighs and a badonkadonk!!

Date sucked last night but no funny stories it was just boring. Might make an impromptu trip to my best bud’s place in Baltimore this weekend to geek out, get drunk with the boys and play Gears of War 3 all weekend. Gears n Beers 2011!!

Thanks gramps!

I didn’t raise weight in bodyweight chins or kroc rows. Actually my performance went down in a couple exercises (partially cause of deloading, partially because I was so gassed from that bench when I almost blew an artery trying to lock out a 9th rep on bench)
“I’m not going to lose sleep if my strength on the main lifts is going up but my strength on the assistance exercises remains stagnant. Remember, you can’t sleep with all the women in the sorority, so just be happy you got some trim.” - Jim Wendler

Very true. Was fine with my monday workout just surprised with soreness. Yesterday, I wasn’t so fine with.

I’ve been thinking about it and I’m pretty sure my knee hurt because my mind wasn’t in it and I had shitty form. Stance too narrow, not sitting back far enough, etc. I will crush OHP on Thurs like usual and it will be out of my mind.

if you’re getting some really hard core DOMS lately maybe you need to take a little deload week or something. Maybe your body is just getting a little too overworked.

I would but then I’d get fat and have to PL. You know how it is.

Don’t be me, take care of your knee.

I should really get it x-rayed or something. It aint right. I am just dealing with health issues I consider more important first.

Speaking of, I finally get my latest bloodwork back today. I am anxious/nervous as shit. I really hope there is something flagged so I have an identifiable problem to attack. If nothing comes back out of range I will be major bummed. I have a couple theories, we’ll see if I’m right. I AM SO GODDAMN TIRED OF BEING TIRED.

On the plus side, I met a real sweetheart at the kickball happy hour last night. We basically made fun of each other for 3 straight hours then I walked her to the subway (100% gentleman here). I think there is something masochistic about my relationships with women, I just love to be made fun of. I got props for ladies who can give it as well as they take it… takes some balls.

Lolol that was straight out of a comedy flick. At one point, 4 doctors were huddled around me staring with furrowed brows trying to figure out what’s wrong with me. Mom always said I was unique and special!

Heading to the gym, will post my workout later. Feeling kinda video-y today

5/3/1 Week 1, Day 3 (OHP)

Well, my doc visit pretty much could not have gone worse. Honestly though in the grand scheme of things my problems are so minor it’s hard for me to get upset or throw a pity party. [serious] I have awesome friends; live in an awesome part of an awesome town; have a stable job that pays me a damn good wage; and have an incredible family. It is damn near impossible to make me feel sad [/serious]

Great workout today too. My body never wants to move anywhere, but honestly, my body can only make suggestions - I’m the one telling it what to do.

A) Standing OHP
70 x 5
85 x 5
100 x 3
-work sets-
115 x 5
130 x 5
150(5+) x 9

(if the edit hasn’t gone through yet, jump to 0:30 mark)

B) Seated DB OHP
60 x 11 PR + 1rep
60 x 9
60 x 8

C) T-Bar Row
(warmup) 2plates x 10
3p x 10
3p,25lb x 8
4p x 6

D1) Lat Pulldown
12 x 6
11 x 10
11 x 9

D2) Lateral Raise
30 x 11 rep PR
30 x 8
30 x 10 cheating

E1) Kayak Rows
5 x 8, 7, 6

E2) Hammer DB Curls
40 x 8, 7, 6

Gonna treat myself to some Peruvian Chicken tonight. There is a baller joint a block down from my house; their chicken is like crack.

If anyone knows anything about medicine etc., help would be appreciated on my case thread - skip to my last post on this page, I sum up everything: Test Results: Thyroid Problem? - Testosterone Replacement - Forums - T Nation

Nice overhead pressing man. Solid training on the whole. My guess is that bout of DOMS was just a fluke thing. Shit like that comes and goes sometimes. I know jack crap about medicine, but best of luck with that anyway. I’ll be following.

Thanks man. Shooting for a 225 OHP this year might be a lofty goal but I think it’s in reach for early next year. Confident I could hit 200 for 1 right now.

Side note… my appetite has taken a total nosedive this week for some reason. Have not been eating enough calories to grow. “Only” like 4000 or so per day.

nice OHPsing my man. Getting 9 reps on your last set is legit.
gregron wrote:

Thanks brotha. OHP is definitely my strongest lift and it’s still progressing the fastest.

Goin for 340x9 on DL today.

I hear ya on the being tired. At least I know what my problem’s are and can be fixed.

Good job keeping on with the training though. I know it’s tough.
