I’ve searched the site about drinking while training but all the posts seem to be about binging while training. I was just wondering what the effects are of just having soom beers the same day as going to the gym
I would think it’s a bad idea considering it can lower testosterone levels. Don’t testosterone levels drop naturally(for a short duration) as a result of training? I would stick to drinking on non work out days. Even then you should probably only want to be drinking maybe once a week.
You mean beer isn’t good PWO nutrition? Well, I’m fucked…
I know, I just dropped a bombshell revelation on the bodybuilding community.
BOOOOOOOM
I think this depends on the beer you drink, and also the manner in which said beer is consumed. If you’re sipping on a Michelob Ultra with your arm around your boyfriend, then it would obviously not be conducive to a heavy workout.
But if you’re pounding an ice cold Iron City and slapping a stripper on the ass, then I would say that is a great pre-workout drink for a record-breaking ME day.

Mwahahahaha!
Spoken like a true powerlifter.
On a serious note, I would rather drink on non-training days. Or not at all. But I like my scotch like I like my women–strong, sophisticated, outgoing, and seductive. So I don’t get to drink that much anyway
(have you ever looked at the prices for good scotch??). Also, on an related note, I like good gin, good martinis (real, ACTUAL martinis), and good whiskey with dark beer. I especially like good mead (thank you Norse heritage!). All of which are not cheap and/or hard to find, so it’s kinda self-limiting anyway.
In all reality, I don’t drink very much. It makes me feel sluggish, and personally I just can’t stomach the thought that all my hard work is going down the tubes with the alcohol, so if I drink at all, I drink on non-training days–notable exceptions being graduation, wedding, new years, and other once in a lifetime/rare circumstances.

I don’t think it would matter if you didn’t get drunk.

About 30$ a bottle here in Pa. for a fifth of Dalmore or Maclellan.
Listen, I’ll give you guys a hint, it won’t matter much. If you’re a drunk, it will hold you back. Last night I had about 10 glasses of Dalmore, Macllelan, and single barrel Jack Daniels. I wanted to taste them all,and they were tasty, believe me.
The day before I set 2 prs in the sumo jump stretch platform deadlift, with mini bands. The minis add over 200 pounds at the top, btw. I’ll lift tomorrow light upper and heavy lower on monday, and I’ll do just fine.
Here’s a secret about drinking, drink good stuff and it won’t affect you negatively as cheap crap will.
BTW, you have good taste is booze, congrats!
I think this is jsut going to depend on how you are drinking. Are you drinking to get drunk, or just having a couple of cold one’s. This will make the difference.
Don’t be a girl.
If you wanna have a beer, have a beer.
A few isn’t gonna kill progress, binge drinking is what really puts a hurt on you and is never a good idea (but it’s lots fun).

hah, thank you. Hard being a college student with taste-they’re never on special. You’re right, the good stuff won’t screw with you like cheap stuff. That’s one reason I only drink expensive stuff–the other far more important reason being that I firmly believe you should enjoy the TASTE of the alcohol you’re drinking, and not just the drunkeness. I like Macallen cask strength scotch in particular lately, and can highly recommend Jadwiga mead, if you can find it. Traditionally made stuff, excellent, not cheap sweetened wine.
Unfortunately, I think light booze intake still makes a significant difference getting to low low body fat, maybe not so much gaining size/strength.
Sorry to bump a dead thread…
not even in the morning?
