Nike Frees

Are the Free 7.0s going out of production? I was looking to order some and except for some odd color combinations I couldn’t find any in larger sizes.
The site said they were sold out when I tried to design a pair earlier today and to check back later. It may just be that the demand is greater than the supply.

Who said the designs in the shops were no good. Take a look at these bad boys.

LOL. I tried to design a pair of 7.0’s last night but the site said they were sold out for the moment. I guess people are paying attention to them.
I too was designing a pair last night, but I feel I need to see them on to be sure they look cool.

I like the Black and Yellow ones I saw in Bangkok in November. They didnt have my size so I had to go with the all black.

If anything, they may just be updating the style of the 7.0. After all, the current style is last year’s model.

Actually, Nike bought Converse back in 2003 for $305M

The are made in China or some other very low labor cost country, probably haven’t been made in the U.S. since the 1980s. Take a look at some pictures of Wilt Chamberlin, he worn Chucks and played NBA basketball at what most people would consider a pretty high level for years in shoes that nobody in the NBA now would consider wearing on the court. That would explain alot then. The only reason Im bellyaching is because I had a pair of Chuck Taylor All-Stars in blue that were made in '98. Best shoes ever. The stitching was tight, the rubber was placed on the right part of the shoe and barely ever wore, and the soles were allways firm, never floppy. I miss those shoes. A few months ago I thought Id give the newly made Chucks a chance. They are just not the same. I have a pair of high top all-stars in black, and the things are falling apart from the seams. The lace holes are stretching and the sole is wearing down like old slippers.

Im just not happy with them, I dont care about all the hype. Id rather just get another pair of Nike Cross Trainers or an Adidas or something. The ebay supply of old style Chucks are running low to out anyway.

Its really the end of an era from my standpoint.

It happens. Maybe the toddler class of 2007 graduated ahead of time.

These shoes look interesting and I would like to try em out but first I have one concern.

I have horribly flat feet and I wear custom orthodics in my shoes all the time. Regardless, I have never had a single foot or ankle problem in my entire life with or without the orthodics in my shoes (I’m 20).

Does it defeat the purpose of the shoe if I put my orthodics in there? I ask because these seem like flexible shoes and am not sure if they are made for people with absolutely no arch. This may sound like a stupid question but I just have no idea.
No orthotics, the point of these shoes is to “work” the feet.

However if you are very used to wearing orthotics I would recommend taking a very long break in time with these shoes. I have very flat feet also and I would just wear my Free’s around the house after work for almost a month before actually taking them to the gym or running in them.

I have some questions I’m hoping you guys can answers. I actually have three (just bought a third) pairs.
The original 5.0’s I wear for just walking around. The 5.0 trainers I have been wearing for sprints, plyos, and olympic weightlifting. However, my feet have a tendenceny to roll out on heavy squats, and the 5.0 trainers do not give enough lateral support to prevent this. So I just bought the 7.0 trainers which have much more lateral support.

  1. Is the issue of my feet rolling out to the sides during squats a dysfunction or is it considered normal?

  2. It is very cold where I am, so until now I have been wearing the free’s with thin socks, and have removed the insole from both the regular and trainer 5.0s to compensate. From what I understand, an insole is just there to provided added support, so I figure that by removing the insole and adding a thin sock - I am not really changing anything… Is this right?
I ask because I am also considering removing the insoles of my new 7.0s…

  3. Does anyone wear the frees without insoles or socks?

To answer the above poster, yes, some people wear them without insoles, and most people wear them withoug socks.

To Anyone who has had the 5.0 and the 7.0, which did you think was better just for lifting? I probably won’t use them much for running.
