Nike Frees for Running?

I’ve had my Free 7.0s for about 8 months now and they are the best for deadlifting and squating.

I’m currious how many people do sprints in them. Do you like them better than “standard” running shoes? Have you injured an ankle running in them? Do the muscles in your feet get sore as hell?

I have not ran in 5 months because I’ve been gaining mass and only lifting, but I’m about to start doing sprints again in a few weeks to get ready for spring/ summer. Any reviews of running in Frees is greatly appreciated.

heh. I do run sprints (and some change-of-direction type drills) using the 7.0 v1 trainers. BUT I only ever do these on the field-turf field at one of the local highschools.

Maybe the Frees do hold up fine on asphalt or regular track running but I’m not very interested in finding out.

At least I didn’t ask you to rate my physique after 2 days of weight lifting.

I don’t have them but running sprints and especially change of direction drills with traditional running shoes sucks.

I would think Nike Frees or any minimal soled shoe is a far better choice.

I rate your physique Bundyrific. You look like you played high school football.

I use them for running sprints, usually on asphalt. It takes some getting used to, but I think it is more mental than anything(thinking you are pounding your feet too much when in fact they are fine). I have never had any problems with my feet/joints from this practice.

As far as the shoes holding up, the little black tread patches on the bottom started to peel about a month after I started sprinting in them. None of them have come off yet, but there are 3-5 on each shoe that have a loose corner(you will feel it roll sometimes, depending on how you are standing).

And thanks for the responses. They hold up well on rubber gym floors but I’ll have to see what happens on concrete.

I use mine for running , they have lasted alot longer than I expected

I got mine as a running shoe and they’ve done well for me. Though I’ve also seen some of the peeling boatguy talked about.

If you haven’t been running you are definitely going to feel it in your arches. Think of it like training your grip, if you wore boxes over your hands all the time, when you eventually took them off you’d get some pretty sore hands and forearms because the muscles that move your fingers atrophied. That’s what happens all the time in shoes, the smaller parts of your feet and calves dedicated to bending your toes are woefully out of shape if you’re anything like the average person in a developed nation who wears shoes all the time. Nike frees give your toes a little room to flex, so work into them slow.
