New Nike Frees Have an Elevated Heel?

Picked up a pair of the new Nike Free 5.0s off of the Nike Website for running and squatting/DLing. Feel great, not sure how the running is going to be since it seems like I overpronate a lot in them but the design seems solid.

One thing I was not expecting is that the heel is now elevated, a lot higher than my Chucks. Any opinions?

How much are they going for?

I’ve always found that elevated are good for olympic lifts…but for deadlifts and such chucks are prefered

Same here. I would normally bring my Chucks for deadlifts and then change back into my Frees after I was done with them.

I just got some of the new 7.0 Free Gym and 7.0 Free TR Trainers. They both feel a little flatter to me than my original 7.0 Trainers. When I get home tonight, I’ll snap some pictures of them and post them for comparison.

The 7.0s I have found have a lower heel but a heel none the less.

Am I really doing myself a huge disservice doing cleans and DLs in regular running shoes?

They are not new I have had a pair for a while now.

Has anyone seen Nike Frees in any actual stores? I know you can order them online but I hate buying shoes online without being able to try them on first. I’ve been everywhere trying to find them in person with no luck so far.

They are getting harder and harder to find in stores. The first few pairs I bought were all in various stores, but recently I’ve only been able to find them online.

Ditto what Vader said. It’s a huge PAIN because I’ve found that every type of Free fits a little bit differently!!

Free 5.0 trainer v1 - 12 was large
Free 7.0 trainer v1 - 11.5 was a bit tight
Free 7.0 runners v1 - 11.5 was really tight
Free Gym - 12 is large

Out of all of those I like the Free 7.0’s v1’s the best. I couldn’t even fit the V2’s the width in those was a lot smaller than the V1 7.0 trainers. I really wish I had just bought 3 pairs of the V1’s when they were still out.

Has Nike changed the Free’s numbering system?

When I bought my Frees 3.0 the number ment the relative heel thickness.

1.0 = almost no heel

12.0 = heel similar to a cross trainer

anyways my 3.0s have heels like flip flops.

My new pair of 7.0’s just came in the mail and the heels are noticibly thicker. I have no idea which version this is.

Here are some of my Frees for comparison.

This is my Free 7.0 Trainer. I’ve had these for about 2 years.

My Free 7.0 Gym. I’ve had these for a few months.

My Free 7.0 TR Trainers. These arrived yesterday. I’ve noticed the heel in these is a little flatter.

Top view of all three shoes. As you can see, the original 7.0 trainer has an adjustable strap on the top that provides a little more lateral support. The 7.0 gym feel like they have a little more support on the outer sole by the pinky toe.

The 7.0 TR Trainer has the least amount of ‘hard’ support around the toes, but so far these feel the most comfortable to me.
