Nike Free Shoes

I love Frees… but do NOT get the 5.0s! The back webbing by the hell wore off after like, 30-40 days of use. All I do is walk a shit ton (2-3 hours a day, with classes and fasted morning cardio) and lift.

But I just got the new ones… 5.0 V4 (I think) and they should be coming in the mail soon. Yay!

I like them a lot for most gym lifts and deadlifts occasionally (like them better than Chucks sometimes), but for squatting I always use my Oly shoes. [/quote]

I squat in mine, only because I don’t have anything better.

And I’ll be banned from my gym for not wearing shoes

I like them but mine wore out pretty quickly.

I had the 5.0 v3 running shoes. I used them for running intervals. I liked them but the tread wore down quicker than any other running shoe I have had. I don’t log a lot of miles so I expected them to last longer. I am a fore-foot striker and it was the tread in the fore-foot that wore out. I just got a pair of Free Everyday+ last week. They are stiffer but have thicker tread on the fore-foot. I haven’t had a chance to run in them yet so I don’t know if the trade off will be worth it.

My wife bought a pair of 7.0 trainers for lifting after I got my 5.0s. She loved them so much that she bought another pair to use on her eliptical machine.

If you are going to run in them and these are your first Frees then make sure you ease into them.

Bumpety Bump

I wanted to get some Frees for my cardio / boxing conditioning workouts in the morning over the weekends, they involve a fair bit of running, sprinting and jumping as well as a bit of boxing with trainers on and they incorporate things like burpees, footwork on tractor tyres etc.

My shins have gone to shit with my current chunky Nike running trainer so wanted to get something that would allow a bit more movement of my feet however I see that Nike Free may not be too good with changing direction.

Are frees still an option?
Would I be better off buying the sturdier 7.0s over the 5.0s if they are?

free 5 v4 are fanfuckingtastic

You use em for anything other than running straight or wearing around the gym?

As a few people have mentioned, the answer to all the questions in this thread are NOT nike frees, but Vibram Five Fingers. Better for running, Better for lifting, Better for cruising around anyplace but a professional work environment. Well actualy frees wouldn’t work there either but you get my point.

I really hope some of you will try vibrams for running instead of ruining your legs even more with expensive running shoes or cross trainers. The heavier you are the less effective a cusioned shoe is going to be at preventing your bones from jarring together. Learn to run properly in vibrams, you will strengthen your feet and your lower legs and you will absolutely reduce your risk of chronic and acute injury. Please I am willing to help anyone who is interested, just PM me if you need form help.

Also there is a reason you have to wait a month or more to get them online. there is a VERY high demand for them. Why? Because they are comfortable and they do what they say they will do. Imagine that, a product that delivers on it’s promises.

Also don’t try to go the cheap route and buy off e-bay, the success of the brand has caused some knockoffs to be made that are cheap and will fall apart on you. Go to vibrams website and pick a retailer off thier site. EVERY retailer that sells legit vibrams is listed on the site.

Yeh, I’m specifically asking about Nike Frees purely because I’m a gutless narcissist, and I know I’d avoid wearing them to my boxing session for fear of looking like a douche bag. I completely appreciate their advantages, and I respect you for wearing them, but I cannae be arsed with the rigmarole of ordering them when I can pop to my local shopping centre and buy a pair of frees.

Thanks for the advice, and if I ever grow a pair I might order myself some but for the moment I’m only looking at the Nikes to be honest.

I bought myself a pair of Nike free TR trainers, I really like them a lot.

I do plan to try the Vibrams in the future myself, but for now, I do like the Frees for my training.

Ok, But at least you can admit to yourself that you are nutless. Here is my reccomendation. Go do some squats, drink some milk, then order some vibrams. In that order.
