Told you guys he was going to be a stud.
one game doesnt make him a stud. Vince Young had more than 1 spectacular game and his ass is riding the bench after being cut. Newtons completion percentage was in the 30’s for all his pre season reps… I seriously doubt he stays in the 65% range like he was yesterday.

oh yeah and they lost
Not talking winning or losing. Talking about how he played. If I remember correctly, VY didn’t throw for 400 some yds. In fact, I don’t think any rookie qb in the history of the NFL has thrown for 400yds until yesterday.

Doubters really are haters hiding behind 70’s porn star mustaches.
Kinda have to agree here, sorry Greg. And it works inversely too. If he would have had a bad game then all of his detractors would be saying “I TOLD YOU SO!!!” after only one game.

Step back, take a deep breath, and let him play football. We’ll see how good he is in 15 years, ok?

(BTW, just because they both scrambled in college does not mean VY and CN are really that similar as quarterbacks. In terms of actual pro scouting I’m to understand Cam Newton was a fair bit better ranked than Young coming in.)
I think CN and VY are getting compared more this moring because they’re black. Maybe I’m wrong or maybe I’m off the mark, but that’s what it seems like.
Well there are not many white men that size, speed and that athletic. Big Ben is that size, but sure as hell not that fast. It is what it is. Matt Jones was fast in college but was still not that athletic of a man as VY anc CN.
Yessir I see where you’re coming from, and Matt Jones never threw a pass in the NFL, he was a reciever for the Jags if memory serves.

I guess what I’m a little tired of is how the athlete = good football player. We all know it’s not true 100% of the time, but it’s often discussed that it is.
Matt Jones was the QB for the Arkansas Razorbacks that ran a 4.4 40 in the NFL combine as a WR.
And then he got caught tootin booger sugar off a credit card in his car in Little Rock…

Didn’t realize he was that fast
Yep and had an arm, but could not move in the pocket like VY or CN. Plus he liked coke and hookers, which is fine unless you are going to play in the NFL.

CN has a better throwing motion than VY, and again I believe CN a lot smarter kid.

Hard to argue the fact even the almighty Peyton Manning did not throw for that many yards as a new rookie.

And if CN has so much talent around him than why were they the 1st pick in the draft?

Demarcus Ware made Wayne Hunter look like Heather Hunter playing O-line. After the high of the win some things about the Jets were clear…

 • Wayne Hunter scares me.
 • The running game is very underwhelming, PLAY JOE MCKNIGHT
 • Buress is a serious weapon, not playing for 2 years may help wide receivers
 • Derrick Mason is shot.

To my man Mark,

I know all talking heads will take Chad Henne and Josh Freeman over you, I know most fans even, Jet fans choose to concentrate on the negative with you, but yesterday you proved that you will take that step forward in the ever important 3rd year of a QB’s career, especially statistically. You should have had 3 TD passes if that old fuck Mason didnt trip over his own feet in the first half. Please learn how to utilize Plax effectively, and thanks for utilizing Dustin Keller well.

You are my QB and I love you.

Respectfully,

Matthew

hahaha Matty. Your Mark love is the best.

God this is the best thread on T-Nation during the season, and some good new face giving input.

Now where is that Vin asshole so I can talk shit about tonight’s game?

Good point, I personally think Stafford kinda sucks…I didn’t really think much of him when he played for Ga, either.
One good game doesn’t mean shit…The league adjusts and watches film, CN is doomed! Doomed I tell you!
I agree, in regards to his productivity at Georgia. Always that he was overrated.

As an NFL QB, though, again, still early to tell. Usually Year 3 is when you can really start making some better conclusions about a player (ahem, Mark Sanchez,) but he just hasn’t played enough games.

And, take it from someone who dislikes the Lions but is forced to watch way too much of them, throw the ball within 10 yards of Calvin Johnson and he’ll probably come down with it. Seriously. I fully believe that he could be thrown to 25 times a game and come down with 15 catches, no matter the coverage or quality of pass.

LULZ Matty, & you know I love you as much as you love Mark, but I just don’t see it. & WTF w/yanking Greene mid-way through the first? A lot of LT, more than I would of thought. Greene is a battering ram. Let him continue to burrough through until he cracks the hole.

Hunter is a disaster. I hate to say this, but Ducasse may have to step in there or you start playing Connor more just for protection.

Def. all around wasn’t great. The safeties suck. Smith is to slow & Leonhard is to short. They both got abused by Witten. Time for Pool to step into the Smith slot.

As for Cam, I’ve been a fan of his for the past yr & have spouted off plenty. I’m w/SSC let’s allow him to play 16 games & than talk about how his play was. I’ve got no problems eating crow if he throws more interceptions than TD’s. Though I don’t believe that will happen. Also, D. Williams got no touches yesterday.
DJHT wrote:

He is, and there’s just no question about that. Cam has seemed very intuitive and “safe” in interviews, and very mindful and respective of the way he’s perceived and how the media works. That’s something I’m impressed with. I’ve read some preliminary reports that he’s putting in a LOT of off-the-field work into learning and internalizing the offense. As cool as it is for someone to be a freak athlete, it’s even better to hear that they’re willing to put forth the effort and work required to be great.

I gotta say, Manning had much less to work with. And again, we’ve only seen CN for one game so far.

Also, to be fair - I agree with a lot of analysts in that having Shockey and Greg Olsen, two of some of the best receiving TEs in the league (though it seems there’s so many now) are also awesome safety blankets for a young QB. Aside from that, it is nice that Carolina has two very good running backs to work with.

Lastly, besides Oakland or maybe Tennessee, Caroline has undoubtedly one of the most underrated front 7’s I can think of. Too bad to hear The Beast (Beason) is out for the season - such a talented Mike.

Gotta agree with this! I respect LT and everything that he can do… on a limited basis. Shonn Greene is the kind of running back that keeps defenses in check without running all the exotic shit. If you overpursue a guy like him, he’ll just stumbling and bumbling forward for three, four, maybe five yards at a time. That really seemed to be missing from the Jets last night.

I said this last yr. You motherfuckers better start giving me my props & street cred, before I go off in this here thread. You motherfuckers…

Beans, I hope the humidity curls Brady’s hair tonight.

SSC Yea that sucks about Beason.

Its apples and oranges honestly every team is a unique entity onto itself. Cam had a great game, thing was it was his first game. Once DC’s see enough film they will attack his weakness just like every DC. Then we get to see how really good he is.

I dont agree with you SSC about Stafford, his college numbers were over rated. But I think this kid has the tools, mental make up and the “it” factor. He should have got his shoulder fixed the first year instead of waiting. Honestly if he played for say Arizona or Seattle what would you think about him?

Print I give you props, you and I discussed this last year and I didnt believe the hype.

Tell me this HOW THE FUCK DOES a TAZER get into the game last night HOLY SHIT!

I agree with you Print, Though IMO Greene has always underwhelmed me, 3yds and a cloud of dust kind of runner,to me he gets stopped at the line way too much and never pushes the pile, for a guy as powerful as that I expect to see more.

I’ll take that cloud of dust. Eventually he has to wear you thin. A lot like Jacobs, just needs to keep his head on square. & let’s face it, We’re talking Rob Ryan scheming here. He just doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Won’t surprise me at all if Dallas doesn’t have a top 7 def. this yr.

How scared were you going into that 4th quarter last night.

Scared enough that I was passed out on my couch… HA… 4’30 in the am comes awful early in these parts. Woke in the middle of the night, opened lap-top looked at score & went to bed.

At 12.5, I’m having a real hard time NOT laying a bill on the Fins right now.

The D is, well, not that much better than last year, and the O is a huge ?

I worry for the Pats this year. But the Jets aren’t vastly improved over last year either. SHit fater yesterday I’m ready to give the Ravens the ring and start next year, lol.
